new poems

Second that Emotion

open your arcs
...
open arcs
roll horizons
spin the earth
under your feet
...

I want to second Rybka's recommendation of this poem. It's a five, easily, in my opinion. Senna Jawa says more with less than most poets I've ever read (and I've read a lot). Please read this poem and think about how succintly he conveys movement and environment and how these reflect the narrator's rootlessness.

[which brings us finally down to silken_dreammaid who gives us poetry motions Those that want to write poems of this genre should study whatever Silken writes, for the rest of us it is just fun to flow with her words. :rose:

Thank you, Rybka....
I try to flow downstream, it's less exhausting..lol

20 new poems. I don't have time to expand much on them, but here are my choices for the day. Enjoy.

And The Petals Fell
by Ancient117331 ©

[...]
Silence, alone, marred with each soft thud -
as the petals fall within his mind
one by one
"loves me not...
loves me not...
not" -

I'm always glad to see Chris posting new poems. This one is on the same line as many of his previous offerings and, like most of them, very good.

Eating Words

Startled,
her head whips 'round at the sudden
sound of snapped and rattled page.

[...]

OT need to think better about what he's been feeding his offspring, but I loved this poem. :D

Torment
by tailwind1913 ©

Slowly
     Soulfully
          Searching
               restStopping
At my triangle of wildflowers and roses; cardamom and jasmine; vanilla and cinnamon; diamonds and pearls; dusk and dawn; dewy mornings and summer storms and red wine and firm red cherries and the intoxicating Beat. Beat. Beat. Beat. of an ensemble jazz band playing in the Paris Symphony Orchestra for the first time or the pulse of a marathon runner twenty steps away from crossing first at the finish line or the dull comforting throb of terse muscles after a night in the gym.

[...]

This is Tailwind's second submission, and the second time I mention her work. I think the first time, about The Sound of Jazz, I said she had a lot of potential and would like to see more of her in the board. This poem only strengthens that feeling. I'd get rid of the first line and last paragraph, but other than that, i liked it.

When did periods replace
hyphens in phone numbers?

When did that obnoxious clown
take over our country side?

[...]

Yesterday, sp's mind was kinda stuck on the image of a clown. The first one is my favourite of the day, the other two need to be read together. So read them all. And if you weren't afraid of clowns yet, think again. :eek:

Really, OT. What's wrong with strained bananas? Or maybe you just wanted to put words in her mouth. :p

You're out to rule the world. I knew it all along! :D

Thank you, Lauren! I stumbled home from work ready to sit and read poetry and post a review.

I had resigned myself to the fact that I would be stuck doing two days a week. Thanks for picking up the day.

Sending grateful hugs,

Cordelia

Since I can't seem to be able to write a line, these days, I thought it was something I should do. ;)

No need to thank.

Today we have two sets of poems: regular poems and on the other hand we have... well, you know. ;)

On The Other Hand
by OT ©

OT's poem consists of only 10 words so I won't include an excerpt. But I will tell you that I like what he did with those 10 words. Very good, OT.

----------

On the Other Hand
by guilty pleasure ©

From where she came, no one knew.
Her horse, old and swayback, drew her creaking home
between two shafts of light.

Her dark eyes glowed like dying fire.
Her crow black hair gleamed like oil
spilling,
twisted, down her back.

Love the story guilty pleasure tells in this poem. And as you can see from the excerpts above, guilty pleasure is weaving us a tale with some great imagery.

------------

Next on the other hand list is mine and since it's like a bad joke that makes you laugh and say, "Boo! Hiss!" at the same time, I'm going to give it to you here and save you the trouble of clicking.

Weathered with parts missing--
peg leg, eye patch,
hooked hand not for shaking--
he left behind sea and sharks,
came ashore to file a claim.

The value of your ruby ring?

Many thousands!

Lost, stolen?

I used to wear it on the other hand.

:p

On the other hand
by silken_dreammaid ©

Page after page of different toys,
with you trying all the ploys.

Trying to convince me to go along,
that this much fun couldn't be wrong.

First, I can't imagine any woman having to be convinced to buy toys. Quick, someone get me the smelling salts! I feel faint...
Cute poem, dreammaid!

----------

on the other hand
by 03sp ©

*
I find two perfect gloves, soggy
in an abandoned vehicle in my yard

*
I receive my own Priest
with 8½ chairs

I asked sp about the Priest and 81/2 chairs but now I can't remember his explanation. I'm sure it was fascinating, though.

----------

On The Other Hand
by T.M.D. ©

Vistas in an azure sky
sun journey night into day
birdsong, breathless, beguiling
springtime a sojourn away

And this is the last on the list of Other Hand poems. Please read and send feedback. :)

----------

And now for the non other hand poems:

Whispers and melodies
by RazzRajen ©

Why was He called
so many fell by the wayside
the window was left open
verticals fluttering and clanking on one side
Looking at the visage before
and the ways behind
Small choice he had
The clanking stilled for a moment
Ere the sussurated cry trailed down
and the splat that was heard in the jungle
The Other closed the file
slipped it into the drawer labelled 'Disposed’

RazzRajen is a poet that has been capturing my attention lately and I hope this poem will capture yours.

----------

Jungles
by RazzRajen ©

Those corn fields,
Those golden wheat fields
Those sodden rice paddies
Those terraced gardens of tea
Show me those vistas of my youth
why am I here in the jungle
I wanted the one where smells assailed my senses
dank undergrowth ,
fetid breath of feline,
Those jaguars and wild boars grunting
rooting where I came from

Razz, I'm really diggin' your poetry. :)

----------

swept back snake brain
by 03sp ©

my laundry
emerges from dryer
in one long yank,
perturbed
wound and twisted
biting mad snake,
wrapping about my wrist

I think this is a totally cool poem because it's about something so simple and sp turns it into a wild biting thing.

Better late than never...

just wrote it...

On the Other Hand

On the one hand I'm scribbly.

That's right:
the right is scribbly wobbly.
I write nonsense right.
Right?

What's left
is on the other hand.
That's the left.
Right?

And what's really left
is printing,
not writing
because

on your page,
the curves and dips
that swerve and drip
in syncopated curlicues
can dance into words
right?

On the other hand,
there's my page,
where marks of indeterminate origin
stumble like drunken Rockettes,
sometimes even falling altogether,
tangled in curtains of paper.

And on the one hand
that's left,
my wrist gets caught
on the metal spine.

OUCH!

Sometimes I drag ink
in smeary sinistral evidence
tracking my difference

down
the
page

and on the other hand,
that's the right,
it's even worse.

So what's left?
Scissors?

Don't even ask.

Thanks for the kind words W.E., I don't know what to say. Thanks again

thanks for the comment W.E. Watch out for that dryer. Or, is it the washer that is the cause of most household accidents after the toaster?

09April2003 New Poems

There's only handful of new poems, so if you are reading this, then I'd encourage you to wander on out and give them all a peek. Since I've already been, I'll give a blurb and a link to maybe encourage you.

Most interesting read of the day goes to LH's reality rant.

Without further ado, here's what you might find today:

Secret decoder ring may be required for On the Other Hand by Rybka

Meloncholy ... memorial beds by silken_dreammaid

Secret love: A Dream by cori

An expression of depression: expression by cori

Perhaps an angry expression: Scope by Xtaabay

Moths be gone: Many Moon Blanket by Blackeyed Skye

On the other Hand, I'm not sure I really read this: On the other hand by Lauren.Hynde

Successful self diagnosis: deafness by 03sp

I thought I knew the answer until I got to the clothes pins in my proximity by 03sp

The morning after: Afterglow by Avigon

Syrupy sweet: Only A Heartbeat Away by Hope

Lauren.Hynde

Lauren,

I received your feedback note and came here and found AND appreciated your comments. I do read many of the threads here though I seldom comment anymore. I DO follow your and Angeline's works and hope you both get the well deserved attention of our peers.

I continue to post - across the net and at my site
http://www.poets2000.com/mistrelshaven
and after your comments perhaps I'll post at lit more often - its nice being told by someone whom you read that you've been read.

Laters, and if you don't mind
the gentlest kiss as fingertips softly caress your cheek.

New poems 4/10/03

Wow! 27 new poems for you enjoy. And quite a few worth mentioning!

So here we go.

~~~~~~~
An erotic poem that caused me to grin.
midnight snack by silken_dreammaid.
~~~~~~~
Three by 03sp. I liked them all.

sensitivity training
sleeping tightly
and, my favorite for the day:
aboard this bus
sp: are you sure this isn't supposed to be an erotic poem?
~~~~~~~
There were three poems posted by Beauteous, a new poet. They seem to be rather long, but there is something compelling about them, especially The Only War Worth Having.
It's an erotic story written in poetry form and has some great lines in it, such as:
[...]
We roughly stroke each other
Through next week’s laundry
[...]
I pose, legs at ease,
Stand in perfect alignment.
His tongue bayonets me.
[...]
His voice is smooth, oil on black steel.
[...]
She makes great use of the battlefield image throughout the poem. Eminently readable.
~~~~~~~
A fine slice of our little wooden man's life:

dark rhythm by OT
~~~~~~~
There are ten new poems by RazzRajen.
The two I liked were:
Eons
small ways to end things
I find I like his shorter poems best. The long ones lose me somewhere. But that's just my opinion...
~~~~~~~
One poet whose work I am really becoming fond of is jazm49.

He has a wonderful tribute to the first Native American woman in the US armed forces to die as a result of combat.

Go read Lori Piestewa
~~~~~~~
When I first started reading the poem Tiny Soldiers by Miss.Savannah, it brought to mind Eugene Field's poem Little Boy Blue. But Miss.Savannah does a wonderful job with rhyme and poignant images to bring this image to the present.
A fine poem.
~~~~~~~
There were two offerings from CrowSingsOver. My favorite was A different look. I'll even forgive the typo in it...
~~~~~~~
And we have another new poet, ravenheart, who gives us two poems.
I liked Sunday Afternoon in the Park WIth G, but found the opening images in A New Aesthetic to really catch my imagination.
~~~~~~~

Whew! Lotsa reading, but most of it well worth it. Go give feedback! (Especially to the newer poets.)

Regards,

Cordelia

Thanks, Cordelia, for the mention.

and here's a short one ~ just for you ~

the Winds whispered
Softly
leaves boughed as He sang.
