Problems with heterosexual pornography; a rant

If porn is taken in the largest possible sense as "visuals of others fucking", I think that I would prefer something like a nano tech peep cam.

It would be the size of a bug, steerable by joystick. I would fly it into the bedrooms of normal, non porn-star (or "pornstar" as current argot has it) folk to watch them fuck in their normal manner.

That would be far more exciting to me than any porns I've ever viewed.

This about sums it up for me, too. Only I'd rather be my full-sized self, watching things.

Well?

I wasn't expecting a lengthy reply, but I'd be pleased to know if anyone liked any of the website references - especially as I was asked for them.
Anyone?

I find that most of the hetero pornography I come across suffers from a few crippling symptoms that really keeps me from sinking my teeth in.

1) a huge lack of POV porn from a woman's perspective. Granted, I'm sure these videos exist, but how come it feels like the porn industry left out 50% of human consciousness?

2) the objectification of the male body. I always feel like the men in these videos tend to be nothing but silent penises thrusting into a screaming body. Aren't men MORE than penises? Aren't there other erogenous zones? And, don't we care if they are enjoying themselves or not? We can't even see their faces!!

3) all hetero porn tends to end with the male orgasm; my question is: why? If the woman was five seconds before writhing on the bed about to finish and the man beats her, the video is over. Why doesn't he finish her, or she finish herself?! It doesn't make any sense.

4) why doesn't anyone laugh in porn? This may seem silly to everyone else, but sex is first and foremost a blast. I feel like if an alien visited our planet and watched all of our porn, he would never know sex was something people thought of as fun. Don't get me wrong, angry or serious sex is HOT... but, whatever happened to, 'let's play put my penis in your vagina'?

**I am not by any means saying that my four 'issues' don't have their place, or cannot be sexy. What I am saying is I'd like some variation in my hetero porn---and I'd like it yesterday!

Am I the only who feels sexually frustrated by bad porn? Am I just crazy?
Help a bitch out.

The following is based on my own preferences, but I suspect it does apply to a significant number of men who watch hetro porn.

Your points 1 & 2 - I absolutely do not want to see more of the man, and especially not his face. For me it would be an immediate turn-off. I watch hetro porn to see an attractive woman being fucked, not to watch a team performance. This also ties into to the lack of emotion, plot and acting. I do not want to know what the man is feeling because I am superimposing my own thoughts and emotions onto the scene. He is my avatar. So to answer the last question in (2), no I do not care if he is enjoying himself. For all intents and purposes, he (as a person) does not exist during the sex act.

Your point 3 - Much of the time, it is impossible (in a hetro video) to tell if a woman is truly having an orgasm. The male orgasm is unmistakable, and so serves as a good marker for the end of the sex scene.

Solo performances are different, and this is where the extreme close ups on female genitals come in. Productions such as FTV, ITC and I Touch Myself depict "real" female orgasms, and their cameramen specialise in catching the muscular contractions and (often very subtle) ejaculations of fluid at the point of climax.

In addition, it is not easy (if not impossible) to find female performers who can reliably have a real orgasm on demand, each and every time, which is what the male performers are expected to do. Time is money for the producers. For instance, many would-be performers are rejected by FTV or even stopped half way through a shoot because the are unable to orgasm within a reasonable period, and in the desired setting and position.

Your point 4 - This goes back to 1 & 2. Laughing would make the male actor a real person and not an avatar. Plus, laughing may be sexy in foreplay and afterwards, but happy laugher and serious erections do not get along very well.

The above is why "couples" porn only works for men when they are watching it with a female partner. Watching another couple have sex is a turn on (for men) when he has his own sexual partner ready to hand, and the other man is therefore not perceived (emotionally/subconsciously) as a threat or competition.

Female POV hetro porn would, from a man's perspective, be almost indistinguishable much of the time from gay porn, and so would be a complete turn off. I'm not saying that it can't or shouldn't be made, but women would have to indicate that there is a large and separate demand for the product before small businesses would commit financial resources to producing it.

Thank you for explaining the ways of the world to us, VWSinger. We adult women are really incapable of understanding any of these things without male help.

Every point you make here has already been made-- by the women discussing them in this very thread, if you had bothered to skim it.

Including the one about how women have to buy porn before small business men will produce porn for them.

My question is, as always: "How the fuck can I buy what isn't for sale?"

I would like to start off by saying that I am a HUGE porn enthusiast. I think porn has great potential in the liberation of sexuality and promoting acceptance and understanding between different sexual demographics--and it's a non-productive, fun distraction:) This being said, I think porn is just like anything else that exists; it's 90% shit.

Oh my God! I think we may be twins! I could not have said it better myself!

LOL Sassy - my favorite points of hers are "why doesn't the woman finish herself" (and if porn is so damned male-oriented, and watching us jill off - ha ha - is such a turn on, you'd think this would be the case), and "I think porn is just like anything else that exists - it's 90% shit".

If the industry actually went out on a limb and - oh my God - actually PRODUCED women's POV porn, I think they'd be in for a real shock.

I've watched a "legitimate" lesbian video with a couple who are friends of mine (no, sorry to disappoint the blokes here, but there was no participatory action on my part, just good and open discussion over some seriously killer wine), and what appealed to me about them was the EMOTION involved and the fact that it seemed REAL, with laughing and an unreal amount of - SHOCKER - touching for touching's sake. Maybe I'm a sap, but that got me incredibly hot. I'd love to watch that with a man and a woman. (This probably goes back to the voyeur-oriented line of the thread I read earlier - sounds as though even a few men wouldn't mind a bit of realism traded for the shitty brown-chicken-brown-cow background tunes and the same shot of a woman's unbelievably fake tits bouncing painfully around with the same grunts spliced in over and over ad nauseam. That's not sex. That's bullshit.)

I like a good I've-just-gotten-home-you-met-me-at-the-door-fuck-me-now scene, but some semblance of reality would be nice once in a while (and the aforementioned scene is sometimes reality!).

Hi Jim!!
Sorry for the delayed response, life is a bit hectic right now.

Thanks so much for the links, I absolutely checked all of them out. I think the more links we can get on this thread, the better.

And not to pedantically beat a dead horse, but I still disagree about the whole porn vs. erotica point. I never label anything unless it labels itself as such first. This also applies to concepts of sexuality. Depending on who is watching, they may think of something as porn, girl porn, erotica, art, eroticism, or junk. And looking through a cultural lens, we don't live our lives in a female driven sexuality-- so why are the things that women are making considered more 'erotica'? Can we not stomach the concept that women make porn? Why do we need to think of the porn men watch as being 'hardcore' and women 'soft core'.

This is not really all that relevant, but one time I was in the romance aisle, shopping for a present for my mom, when these two guys walked by snickering about the 'Girl Porn'. I felt instantly embarrassed, and then angered. Why is this fiction by women, that's for women 'porn?!' and then I thought-- fuck it. What if it is porn? Eeeeh gadz! Women watching and writing porn?! That's so odd, it's comical, right?

Again, the point of this thread was not to debate semantics. Merely to examine what is given to us as mainstream heterosexual pornography.

I'd write more, but I just turned 21 and I got some celebrating to do ;)

I know they would be.

Reality is also "there's a cramp in my leg" or "oh my god, you're on my hair", so be careful what you wish for. Just sayin'. ;)

Frankly I'd be thrilled just to see someone actually enjoying themselves. I don't watch a whole hell of a lot of porn, but in most of the "professional" stuff I've seen, I've never seen so many bored looking people in my life.

thanks! i HATE most hetero porn or hetero made lesbian porn. tooooo staged, all about male domination, women who clearly aren't lesbian (can't lick or find the clit- lol), or two chicks being scripted from off camera. totally dig Comstock films or ErosExotica; real people sensually engaging with each other - yum!
