Day 3 - Favorite movie pre-1970

I hate picking a “favorite,” and there are so many to choose from but I have to go with Casablanca

Day 4 - First movie you saw at the cinema

This wasn’t my first. My mom used to sign up to do movie theater audits so we could get free tickets. We didn’t go a lot, but it was a nonzero number.

The first one I actually remember is Titanic, probably because there was a little trauma involved 🤣

Day 4 - First movie you saw at the cinema

We went to a lot of drive-in movies, but this was the first I remember in a sit - down theater. I cried my fucking eyes out. It is also the first animated appearance of my favorite Peanuts character, Woodstock, and I love this scene so much.

...are you OK? I can't understand any of that.
I think my position is quite rational with regards to George Bailey. (see previous essay) Other than he isn’t actively trying to take down the housing market of the town, like Mr Potter, I’m not sure what’s likable about George as a character (other than he was portrayed by Jimmy Stewart who is eminently likable)

It feels like they wanted me sympathetic towards him. I’m not.
You’re supposed to see that he’s an idiot who can’t see the good around him. Thats the entire point of the movie. You’re personal reaction is yours and valid, but the movie’s still excellent.

Day 4: First movie you saw at the cinema

This is the first one I remember seeing in the theater. It came out a month before another movie I remember pretty well so I'm pretty sure I saw it first. Anastasia is still one of my favorites and I still listen to the soundtrack 🥰

I think we're about the same age and my mom took me to see this at the theater too. No shade but why did they think it was a good idea to take a kid to see a movie about one of the biggest tragedies of the early 20th century? 😭🤣

Day 4 - First movie you saw at the cinema

Can’t confirm that this was the first, however it is definitely the first I remember. My father took me. Definitely not his cup of tea, but he sucked it up for his youngest.

I don’t actually remember seeing it the first time I saw it, but I do remember standing in a line that stretched around the block with my parents at The Mann Chinese theater 🤣

Day 4 - First movie you saw at the cinema

It was a 1pm matinee that was changed to a 2:45 screening. I can still remember me, my older brother and two of his friends and how the four of us sat in an empty theater for 90 minutes, each kid in aisle seat behind one another and across from one another...two rows...just talking and enjoying the company. And then the film began... and when the Hanson brothers took their first shift on ice for the Charleston Chiefs -- it might be the funniest scene in a comedy. I can still hear us laughing...

The first time I went to see it, my wife and I watched as about ten or twelve girls all came giggling into the theater. It was one of the girls 13th birthday party.

Three quarters of the way through, my ex had a bawling girl in each arm and I was making a trip to the lobby for more napkins, as they had all gone through the pack of Kleenex we had in her bag.

One of the greatest sports movies ever made.

I am delinquent a few days, time to catch up....
  1. A movie that reminds me of my childhood: The Neverending Story
  2. Movie with the best opening scene: Raiders of the Lost Ark
  3. Favorite movie pre-1970: Singing in the Rain
  4. First movie I saw at the cinema: I think it was Home Alone 2, followed closely by Aladdin

Dropout has a show called Dimension20, where they play D&D or other TTRPGs on camera. I don't watch it, other than highlights, because it's so incredibly time consuming, but their latest adventure is a homebrew 80's action flick game.

A few years ago an artist tagged the CEO of Dropout in some fan-art, and they casually spoke about him being commissioned for some of their shows, but nothing came of it. Now, when this latest D20 homebrew kicked off, the CEO (Sam Reich) contacted this artist again out of the blew and asked him to do some old-school art for the show.

This is what he created. It's so beautiful 🥲
I am slowly making my way through Never Stop Blowing Up right now! It's so fun! But so long.

DAY 5 - A movie you wished you could have seen on opening night

Jaws. I can’t imagine how the audience must have reacted! I recently saw Jaws on the big screen a few years ago at a drive in and it was awesome. But, of course, I had already seen it a million times by then.
