September Film Challenge 🎬

Day 4 - First movie you saw at the cinema

Didn't go to the theater until I was 18.

Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (1999)

Day 4 - First movie you saw at the cinema

Can’t confirm that this was the first, however it is definitely the first I remember. My father took me. Definitely not his cup of tea, but he sucked it up for his youngest.

Day 4 - First movie you saw at the cinema

I'm in a similar boat as Lav and Nathan; the first movie I saw on the big screen was Star Wars when it was remastered and re-released in 1997 for the 20th anniversary!

I remember being scared out of my damn mind from all the incredibly loud sounds and explosions and things I didn't even have names for... My english was quite bad, and my swedish even worse (subtitles) but the experience is still unforgettable. What a rush!

DAY 5 - A movie you wished you could have seen on opening night

Jaws. I can’t imagine how the audience must have reacted! I recently saw Jaws on the big screen a few years ago at a drive in and it was awesome. But, of course, I had already seen it a million times by then.
One of the advantages of being old was seeing so many great films in the theater, on really big screens, back when there was just one huge room, with a beautifully massive screen. Jaws was one of these. Not opening night, but that summer. My early movie viewings are so indelibly carved into my mind. I remember where I sat -- stage right, about the middle of the theater, which was full. I remember the cool of the room after being so hot outside. And I remember being both frightened and exhilarated at the same time. I was just a little kid, probably too little to see it, but it was magic. Terrifying magic.

Day 5: A movie you wish you could have seen on opening night
My future wife and I had literally just started dating right as this movie came out. And while we saw so, so, so many movies that year (it was a pretty fantastic year for film), this sort of bombastic action flick just wasn’t on the agenda that early in the relationship.

I didn’t see it until it came out on DVD and even when I watched it last week, I regretted not seeing it in the theater. It was and remains a movie that changed cinema. And I can only imagine how mind blowing it must have been to go in blind.

Funnily enough, my wife likes and watches it more often than I do.

Day 5 - movie you wished you’d seen opening day
Ok, I wouldn’t have physically been able to see this on its actual day, but it would have been awesome to have seen this movie before we all knew the lore behind it

Amazing opening scene

An all time great line “Leave the gun, take the cannoli”

And a great instruction on making homemade sauce, which I’ve made and it’s delicious

Day 5: A movie you wish you could have seen on opening night
Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves. One of the best fantasy movies I have seen a long time, hopefully they make another despite the poor box office performance.

Day 5: A movie you wish you could have seen on opening night

I was so looking forward to this one. Amazing cast, great director, and titled with an allusion to my number one favorite film. I worked hard to stay unspoiled by it, even though I didn't see it in a theater (long story, for once not telling it). I rented it when it came out, but my wife at the time wanted no part of it, so I waited until she was in bed. And, of course, I fell asleep on the couch a few minutes in, and woke up exactly where the twist was explained!

If I saw it opening night, that wouldn't have happened.

The Usual Suspects (1995)

I can't really watch him in anything now, but I really enjoyed his work before I knew.

I recorded this on VHS during a marathon they were having of his films back in the late 90's (or 2000) and watched it on my cathode ray tube. 👵🤣 I somehow managed to not know anything about the plot beforehand.

Oh no!

Yeah, I'm in the same boat, re: Spacey. Which is too bad, because he has some good work. I just don't watch any more.

I'm not that fussed about opening night but I wish I could've seen Anna in the theater. Luke Evans *and* Cillian Murphy on the big screen would've been quite overwhelming for me 🤭 And I love an action movie with a female lead 🥰
