September Film Challenge 🎬

Day 14: A film you love that everyone dislikes.
It’s a silly movie. It’s dumb. It makes no sense. But I just… it’s…I just think this is one of those movies that I can’t help but laugh at when I watch it. But my friend said, when I suggested it to her, “you didn’t tell me I had to be smashed to watch it”.

Oh well. She obviously didn’t get the subtle humor 😁

Day 14: A film you love that everyone dislikes.

Maybe everyone doesn't dislike this film, but it certainly has its detractors and not enough people fully appreciate Coppola's ambition in trying to make an art film for teens. The style, inventiveness, the photography, the theme... there was a lot happening inside this film.

Day 14: Paggliaci

I picked this because no one in my family liked opera when I was growing up. This is an excellent film version of the classic opera with Domingo in the lead. Theresa Stratos was excellent. It was based on a real case. If I remember correctly, the composers father was a judge.

Day 14 - A movie everyone dislikes but you love

I think this movie is less actively disliked as much as forgotten these days. But at the time, it had the temerity to be a simply good little movie following two all time classics from Boyle and McGregor.

Day 13: A movie that's better than the book it's adapted from

99.9% of the time, the book is always better. I'm kinda cheating here with my answer. This movie was based on three short stories which are great, but the movie just made them better. It's 3/4 perfect and stuck with me after I saw it. I think about certain scenes often.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)

I know I’ve seen this movie back in the day and I have literally no memory of any single scene. I should give it another chance. I was thinking of it when that uhmm other..movie with a similar theme came out and bombed recently.

I was 21 and had a crush on Jude Law(didn't we all) when it came out so... that probably had a little to do with why I remember it.

I have never understood the backlash against this movie. It’s the most fun Star Wars movie since the OG. It’s just solid entertainment,
I didn't hate it, but I got annoyed with "we need to check off all of these boxes!"

Meeting Chewie? Perfect.

Justifying the Kessel Run line from the first movie? No. Let it go.

And in a universe of Skywalkers and Darklighers and the like, were people actually questioning the logic of "Solo?" 'Oh, "Solo?" How can that be a surname? I must know how he got that!'

Yeah, I have literally no memory of this movie existing. It looks pretty cute so maybe it's streaming somewhere 🤞🏼

I don't love The Eternals but I love Drukkari, such an adorable pairing. It wasn't the best Marvel movie but I still thought it was entertaining.

it wasn’t the last few times I checked. You may have to raise the black flag. But it’s a silly fun sweet little movie that showcases dear Ewan’s comedic chops very well. It’s not great but it’s definitely solid.

As an aside so many movies we talk about as terrible or flops have like 60%-70% favorable ratings. Our sense of good vs. bad in media is so distorted by our desire to have things be the BEST.

Prime is telling me it's available with a Max add-on but Max tells me it's not there 😒

True. You can't always have cotton candy ice cream, but vanilla is still good. This might be an analogy that only rings true with me 😬

Don't you hate that? Try it with a VPN?

And if you can't have either there is always birthday cake... did I do that right? 😅 😉
