Snippetsville: General Discussion

Laurel's response...

In response to my request for advertising for the SG, Laurel says:

...I'm going to re-"new" your story to give it a little extra push, and mention it on the front page as well. Hopefully, that will help readership...

...Thanks to all of you for your wonderful work. It's a very cool project!

Laurel

So, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens now. :) Laurel, you're a wonderful lady, thank you! :)

Laurel is awesome! :)

Here is our next feedback thanks to the advertising:

**Comments:

Hello to all and congratulations on what you have posted thus far. I have found your first snippets to be engaging, surprising, often humorous and in toto delightfully entertaining. I look forward to following the action as things begin to heat up in Snippettsville.**

:D

Wonderful stuff! :) I have replied on the Group's behalf thanking the person for their comments. :)

I was unable to be at work for most of today. I came online instead.

Thank you to gauche, PierceStreet, Couture and sailorm72003 for zapping into the chatroom. It was nice to get to know you all a little more. And for me, I couldn't have thought of a better way to spend a difficult day like today so thank you. sailorm I hope the fire was not bad.

(My cousin died this morning, slipping peacefully from her coma and leaving this world behind to go to wherever she believed she'd be off to next.)

a little help...

*whispered with tongue firmly in cheek*

When sending PMs to others, if you untick the 'save a copy' option at the bottom of the PM before clicking 'send message' you will find that your PM box does not fill up so quickly.

Also, feel free to delete any old messages from yours truely. I'm sure I'll be sending out more gems so you don't need to save them and frame them on your walls. *wicked wink*

Please note: I did not name names in this posting. :D

After reading the Snippetsville stories on the "New Stories" page, I found this link here in Story Discussion. What a great idea! I'd like to try my hand at one -- being rather verbose myself, a 600 word limit will be a good exercise.

I've read through all the stories, but not all the general discussion. My story is a bank robbery -- any mention of the bank in previous stories? Snippetsville First National, perhaps?

I'll be sure and sign in before submitting anything, of course, but I thought I'd ask first, in case the bank was mentioned earlier and I missed it.

PierceStreet! I didn't mention names you know! lol

Seattle Zack, Hi it's nice to meet you and welcome to the SG. I see you've signed in on the legal thread. Thanks for doing that.

Bank is mentioned in:
Hometown Hotshot by Quasimodem, Jack Portner is the banker's only son.

The bank is located in '9' on Map 3 and is next to the Oldtimer Antique shop (the other building is as yet unoccupied) in the sticky which you will find at the top of this Forum. Snippettsville Introduction, Rules and Links.

Have you read all the stories from the 600 Word Story thread, or just the ones from Issue 1?

Have I forgotten anything? I'm sorry, I have a few ups and downs in my life at the moment. I hope to be thinking straight again by next Monday (my time).

I'm looking forward to reading your contributions. :)

wso

Thanks you, WSO, yes I've read through (most of) the stories in the complete thread, after the posted Snippetsville stories ... I also tried a search for "bank" but didn't come up with anything. Thanks for the bank manager's name, I did see the building on the map.

Okay, and you're welcome.

I should point out here that I'd like to see more than one story from you though... I reckon you can cope with a bit of a challenge. :)

A couple of good threads to keep an eye on are the Character Database (where you'll find good descriptions of existing characters - do you know how this Database works?) and the Ambience thread... where did that go? I'll see if I can find it.

https://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=186859&highlight=Snippettsville+ambience

-sorry my head can't work out the html thing just at the moment. but you should be able to click on that for a few days from now.

Fully realising I could smother you with information, I'll sit back and let you digest what I've given you.

Please don't hesitate to ask if there's anything you're not sure of. One of us will be around and about to answer you within 24 hours.

Alex (my secretary *wicked wink*) is planning on drawing up a kind of Fact Sheet which will help anyone/everyone/new SG authors. He's got houseguests at the moment.

. . . We debated long & hard on the range for wordcount. Don't remember what we decideed for sure, but at one time, 595 to 605 was the target. At 593, you can easily add to words at some point (easier to add than subtract).

WildSweetOne will address this if needed.

Again, welcome, and good first volley.

PierceStreet
I'm online sooner! Plus 5, minus 15 was the agreed count, ie 585-605. As PierceStreet says, it's much easier to add!

Alex

PS: Nice story, Seattle Zack

Well, I sent Seattle Z. a PM telling him his first snipp was exciting to read. I thought I shouldn't use the thread for that but now - Harrumph!

While I'm here, Pierce, I like your AV serial.

Absent friends

I'll be offline most of the weekend as my nephew is getting married.

'Tales' issue 2 may very well post over the coming weekend. I - and Wildsweetone - will do my/our best to keep you all posted, but I for one won't have access to a PC from midday (GMT) Friday until evening (GMT) Sunday.

Stay cool, people.

Alex

Twin Peaks

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! This is a great exercise -- I wish we'd used it in my creative writing classes that I took so long ago at the University of California....

In a PM to Wild Sweet One I had mentioned that reading through the Snippetsville stories reminded me of "Twin Peaks" episodes, and she asked what that was. "Twin Peaks" was an American TV show, ran for a couple of seasons (1990-91) set in a small logging town in the Pacific Northwest. The twisted director David Lynch was the creator (Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Mulholland Drive).

Twin Peaks was a small town filled with sex and murder, demonic posession, eerie dream sequences, offbeat characters, and cherry pie. Nothing was what it seemed, and each new episode added some new twist. Ultimately it was a little disappointing, as it turned out there was no real master plan and the writers were just making it up as they went along, but it was quite innovative at the time.

Some of the locations and such might provide some inspiration for Snippetsville stories. There are dozens of Twin Peaks websites, but this one is one of the best. Click on "Places" to see pictures and descriptions of the Twin Peaks settings, settings that are very reminescent to those in Snippetsville.

All the "Twin Peaks" episodes are available on VHS and DVD, btw, highly recommended viewing for anyone who hasn't seen the show.

Zack, more and more I like how you think. Yes, Snipps as TP is good, gives me real aphrodisiacal food for thought. Re. the show, it was a good run, I loved the humor.

still talkin' to my log, Perdita ;)

I'm in the chatroom 'SG' password 'arthur' if anyone wants me.
I expect to be here for hmm up to an hour from this point in time.

Thanks for the explanation Zack :)

...nobody around... - closed the room.

Just letting everyone know, I will be offline for most of the rest of today and the following two days. Alex is going to check on the posting of Issue 2 before he goes away, and I will check when I am able (either my Saturday evening or Sunday morning) - sorry, things kinda went out of my hands this week.

Glad you noticed. I hope to be back on the beach soon.
Good, but next time leave the laptop home. Can we get a semi-frontal? :)

Twin Peaks was a good show! Hey all, I got a new modem for my computer which was struck by lightning and hope to have it installed this weekend, so I can regain some momentum. On the other hand, my work is kicking up 10 notches (sigh). If only I could get paid for playing on Lit. My latest challenge was totally disgusting... this may not be the place to share, but I'm an interior designer, and became invloved in a project involving a zebra-sriped carpet with black border, and the woman wanted purple walls. I am so ashamed. It is ugly. The carpet is beautiful, but with the walls... ewwwww.

Hiding,
Wantonica:rose:

heads up please

Serious posting this (though I'm still wondering about zebra carpets... - to think Wantonica liked the carpet but hated the purple walls... well...)

Anyhow,

1. I need to know, what did we decide the 'big city' north of Snippettsville was to be known as? I just know we had a big city on one of the maps a while back... But for the life of me I cannot remember what Alex named it. Does anyone know? Vars of soupwarsproject needs to add the title into the story just written.

2. I see Issue 2 is up with BlackSnake's artwork at the top. It looks good.

3. Thank you for those who sent me kind thoughts during last week. It was a bit of an incredible week for me. First I had to help a friend scrape her dead cat off the main road, then my cousin went into a coma and died, and on Friday a netfriend gave me some more bad news. I'm thinking this week is definately going to be an improvement.

Names, known and unknown...

I'm back from the wedding and the bride was, as brides always are, lovely. The weather was as wet as only the English Lake District can be (only a few miles from Seatoller, for those in the know).

Right, Snippettsville -

Slight correction for my associate wildsweetone. I always visualised the unnamed city as being South of Snippettsville. Mayson, the county seat, is North of Snippettsville, just off the top of Map 1. It was shown on the original version of Map 1 but has been moved further away.

The city is still, as yet, unnamed - suggestions are welcomed, as are suggestions for the river which flows through Snippettsville and joins Green River - from Green Lake - to the West of Snippettsville.

Fuck the county seat, fuck the city, fuck the North and South, GIVE ME SOME NUMBERS.

Gauche

P.S We did turn voting on this time. Right?

The fact she hates it kills my theory that Wantonica is really Hilde from Trading Spaces.:)

A more accurate comparison would be Julia from Designing Women. A classic, cocky bitch with some wildness thrown in for good measure. However, I give the clients what they want, just don't put them all in the portfolio... ha, ha. The carpet installers video-taped that one just to show how the purple walls took away all the beauty of their masterpiece.

Hugs,
Wantonica:rose:

P.S. Adhering to the thread, may I suggest that the town without a name include 'Grove' or 'Creek' in its tag? Cedar Grove, Maple Grove, Cedar Creek, Maple Creek... I'm not keen on the types of trees in the Snippetsville area, so help me here.
