Couple of friends of mine went to the Rally To Restore Sanity and/or Fear. After seeing their photos and hearing the stories, I wish I would've gone.
I'm not even American and I wanted to go!

Yeah, I read that article. Very interested in that era. I'm reading a book called "The Triumph of Conservatism" which shows that the Progressive agenda at the turn of the century was largely driven by industrialists who were looking for ways to shut out competition. It makes me want to know more about Roosevelt and the Gilded Age in general.
I think it started farther back than Clinton. At least Carter, who appointed Paul Volcker.

I'll have to check that out. Right after I finish the sucktastic sequel to the Girl With a Dragon Tatoo.
Eh, don't bother, it's extremely dry.
Read "Nixonland" if you want very informative history that sucks you in like a good novel.
I have to stop reading or watching anything about Nixon or that time period. I've even read Haldeman's diaries which are just riveting (kidding). It's like a crack addiction.
If you are really into that period and you haven't read the Perlstein book, you have to read it.
Whoa - just because we want to behave sanely doesn't mean we want to let go of our perfectly rational fear of a Canadian invasion!
Ha ha ha. I am weirdly amused by faux anti-Canadian humor.
When we invade...and we will...we'll make sure to bring gifts of maple syrup and we'll wipe the snow off our boots first. Promise.
Fine, twist my arm! I actually hadn't read much in the last couple of years, but then I was watching this documentary on Daniel Ellsberg and started salivating a little.
Yeah, there's a lot about the Pentagon Papers in it. The main centerpiece is the events of 1968: riots, assassinations, crazy conventions.
I think it's the best book of history I ever read. Definitely as far as understanding the rise of the right.
Those who will want to explain away the likely transfer of some congressional seats from the Democrats to the Republicans as a "referendum on President Obama" will have to first explain why it is that in every election since 1950, shifts in Congressional balance of power have reflected similar shifts in state legislatures in almost perfect synchrony.

America fucking loves Obama. Hell, we haven't counted the votes yet, dude. I expect him to do better than George W. Bush in 2002. Don't give up the ship yet. There is still time to vote!
Hawt.

You've been calling this a referendum on Obama for three months, WD. Cut the shit and discuss like a man.
Forgive me for posting this but I can't believe you're all arguing about something petty like politics when the question of female ejaculate -- pee or no -- has not been resolved in Talk.
Come to find out you're a history geek. Who knew.
Ha. It's actually a good night to discuss the absurd.Forgive me for posting this but I can't believe you're all arguing about something petty like politics when the question of female ejaculate -- pee or no -- has not been resolved in Talk.
