U.S. politics isolation tank

Did Romney cheat in the debate? What I'm hearing/seeing is that they weren't supposed to bring notes into the debate, and Romney may have done so.

DailyKos shows the video here. Watch the first 11-12 seconds.

Well, at least it wasn't on his hand???

However, I am pissed about the Big Bird shit. When all else fails, these dildoes can reliably turn to NEA/PBS gay marriage or abortion culture wars fifth-in-line-importance stuff and watch everyone chase the ball. Always. It's good to know that these issues will never ever ever be decided in my lifetime with the exception of marriage. (I think we're going to rise above the embarrassment of being a backwater of the civilized world on this one) The right would cry if it "won" on these. They need something to kick around constantly.

And more brilliance from the GOP campaign:

Mitt Romney Abortion Stance Changes, As Candidate Says He Won't Push To Restrict Access

Mitt Romney said Tuesday he has no plans to push for legislation limiting abortion, a softer stance from a candidate who has said he would "get rid of" funding for Planned Parenthood and appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade.

“There’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda,” the Republican presidential nominee told The Des Moines Register in an interview.

The Romney campaign walked back the remark within two hours of the Register posting its story. Spokeswoman Andrea Saul told National Review Online's Katrina Trinko that Romney "would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life."

Mitt Romney: People Don't 'Die In Their Apartment Because They Don't Have Insurance'

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who has pledged to repeal Obamacare, says that people without health insurance don't have to worry about dying as a result.

"We don't have people that become ill, who die in their apartment because they don't have insurance," Romney said in an interview with the Columbus Dispatch's editorial board on Wednesday.

While it's difficult to tell how many people die each year from lack of health insurance, one study, from a health care advocacy group, puts the number at 26,000 deaths per year.

I'm enjoying this documentary on social darwinism narrated by the wonderful JK Galbraith, who with his dry, weary, ironic eloquence and long face is very reminiscent of another Harvard-associated WASP intellectual, William S Burroughs.

Thanks. Ideologies fascinate me anyway, so I'm interested in the justification behind this more than the details of their plans.

...and protruding ears, and eyes like saucers! That about covers it.

That's how they getcha!

And the Ayn Rand social darwinism: Furbies are known for that.

I took a photo of a rock that looks like LBJ.

Don't say I never raise the intellectual tenor of this discussion.

The president isn't letting Mittens' bullshit go unchallenged. Huzzah!

He's also obviously had a Red Bull. He's engaged. Nothing like your job on the line to focus you!

"Skirting" is taking on a whole new meaning!

Mitt will be wearing a kilt in the next segment.

Check it out! He had his staff "go out and find me some women."

Flexible schedule for his chief of staff. Once again, Romney's platform is "I'm a nice guy. Really!" And definite flexible schedules for all women who happen to be his chief of staff!
