U.S. politics isolation tank

That was pretty weird shit last night!

I'm dying to know what the camp Romney strategist meeting was like before that.

I'm not so much filled with arrogant angry left scorn, just more like "huh."

My favorite was camp Romney spinning this into "not wanting to cut into the obvious win of the first debate"

dude, this is the American public, you gotta be kidding. If it's not trending on twitter it's history.

The media went on and on about ambien Obama that time (which WAS absurd!) but nobody's mentioning sweaty desperate used car salesman Mitt. It's only periodically that he stops looking like he's in headlights, and last night it was full on deer in the road.

In less depressing news I watched Gary Johnson on some intertubes TV program. He's like a less scary racistfanclub Alex Jones creepo Ron Paul. It's too bad that Libertarians are so incapable of meeting anything halfway, like, dude, maybe TRANSITIONING us onto a consumption tax instead of "I will DO AWAY with the IRS!" might actually play. I like him. Yeah even WITH the health care stance, since I actually believe that busting the state lock-ins will do a lot.

It occurs to me that Christie's about face -- praising Obama and dismissing Romney-- is typical of the conservative mind. The storm has AFFECTED him. Now, he understands. That's how they work-- they cannot empathise with anything they aren't experiencing themselves.

I think it has more to do with whatever cagey political chess game Christie is playing than any such simple epiphany.

Oh, it's not an epiphany. After it's over, he may well return to his normally programmed mindset...

But the Mayor of San Diego, a typically conservative man, supports gay marriage because his daughter is a lesbian. Not because hundreds of thousands of other people are also gay, and also deserve civil rights. Just his daughter.

When he had his big moment at the GOP convention, he used it to promote Chris Christie, not Mitt Romney. This is more of the same. I think he is positioning himself as the elephant who can work with donkeys for 2016.

That every repub for himself attitude, a long way away from the GOP that I remember!

This.

But it's still funny.

I want to see every single one of these "governement is the problem" fuckers twist in the wind for a few days per every disaster, I really do. Give HIM a chance to look like the person who fucked up so bad that the even more eeeeevil Feds have to do something.

Related: East Coast people in da house? You ok?

It's really weird when I'm calling home about storm-based mayhem in October.

Yanno, the whole elephant/donkey thing kind of pisses me off (should this maybe be in the pissed off thread?). I like elephants (though I hate what the Republicans have become in the last 15-20 years, and yes, I used to consider myself a conservative and inclined toward the Republican platform), and I detest donkeys for a number of reasons. What say we convince the parties to swap mascots?

What? Don't look at me in that tone of voice!

Have the animals been like that forever, or did we get stuck with the Donkey after the party reversals or something? I should actually know this somewhere in my brain files, but I can't seem to pull it up.

I like the donkey, because no donkey no mule. Mule was the first power tool in most of the infrastructure we've built.

According to the wikipedia thing, cartoons by Thomas Nast in the nineteenth century initiated the use of these two mammalian symbols for the two Republican parties.

Ahhh apparently in the 1870s when it was the party of the machine, the klan, and state's rights above all....

it's depicted as the ass in the lion's skin freaking everyone out about the republican elephant.

Good times. It's endemic of the party to be this clueless, isn't it?

The fucking government! And where's the damn post office with my social security check?? I worked my whole life in the defense industry, and now the city can't clear the roads so I can get to the FEMA office and the Tea Party meeting??
