What Made You Smile/Laugh Today?

You're just trying to keep your negativity post points low and positivity post points high, because negativity just doesn't suit you. :)

You'll feel great about what you've done for a noble cause once your worn-outness wears out!

HA! Well put Seela. I am sure you're right. ;)

So we were not-watching "Fun with Dick and Jane" for background noise, and the scene comes up where Dick (Jim Carrey) tries to rob someone at an ATM and it turns out he knows the guy, so the robbery fails as he and Jane try to play it off as a practical joke.

That reminded me of the time someone came up behind me at the ATM (years and years ago!) and said, "Gimme da money!" I turned around and started laughing at the guy. "What's so fuggin' funny?"

"I just *deposited* the money! You're two minutes too late, dumbass!"

He looked at me with the biggest puppydog eyes, his shoulders slumped, and he slowly walked away, lost and penniless.

That is too funny, SW! (glad you're ok, though!)
lollllllll....
:D

A post on another board my slave read to me today.

"I programed my Tivo to record The Biggest Looser and all I get is the Chicago Cubs games."

Awesome! May the force be with you! :D

Oh it was! What fun. How this guy ever came up with idea, I'll never know.

But here's the coolest part...

Charles Ross has been doing this show for 12 years now. He's performed all over the world to rave reviews. I remember hearing about him ages ago at the Fringe Festival and I thought, "One man Star Wars? That sounds lame." Then, by total fluke, I caught him performing on the Conan O'Brien show, several years later and...it was pretty freckin' hilarious. So when I saw the show advertised here, I just had to go.

It was a full house and the crowd loved him. At the end of the show he sat down on stage and just talked to the crowd. And guess what? This was his homecoming. He grew up in Nelson. His highschool drama and English teachers were in the audience.

He then went on to say how strangely special our little wilderness town is. He said, "After the end of the Conan show, I was sitting on the couch with Rachel McAdams, just talking, and I mentioned I was from Nelson. She said, 'Oh, I love Nelson, my family used to go there on summer vacations!', then Conan said, "Nelson? You mean from Roxanne, right?'" This is a phenomenon I am familiar with. I'm always surprised at how many people, from all over the world, have heard of or have visited this city.

Way cool.

Also, his Luke Skywalker impression was bang on. (Never realized how whiny that character is, lol.) And the image of his Jabba the Hut death scene will not soon leave me. :D

Awesome! So neat when the big world can feel a bit more friendly and cozy, if even for a moment. Reading this definitely made me smile. :)

A rather sad smile, but a smile nonetheless...

I dropped into a four-year-old resurrected thread in Talk and reviewed it from the top just to see why it had been resurrected. In scrolling down through the responses, I ran into a post from MasterPhoenix, a former member of our NFL Pick'Em Pools who, sadly, passed away, mid-season 2010. (We named the 2011 pool the MasterPhoenix Memorial Pool in his honor.)

Seeing his little fly animated gif crawling around on the screen again reminded me what a great guy he was, and how much fun we had sniping at one another on some topics, and agreeing wholeheartedly on others. He is missed.

I've found something to replace Lit's eye-rolling emoticon ( ).

Olivia Wilde rolling her eyes. :D

Could you please explain this person to someone who is intentionally oblivious to pop culture but does recognize a good-looking woman when he sees one? And who is too damned lazy this morning to click on the wiki-thing link.

I'm not sure Olivia Wilde could be explained, at least not in the number of pixels available here. She's an actress: 81 episodes of "House, M.D." as "Thirteen," aka "Dr. Remy Hadley," among many, many other movie and television appearances.

That explains it. She never appears on the Rachel Maddow show, does not play professional golf, and her movies don't show up on AMC. Thus, in YankWorld, she's not on television at all.

Humble thanks.

I'm smiling at the rain. We don't get many "rainy days" in the desert, especially not this time of year. It's cool and overcast with that wonderful diffuse light. I spent the morning at my torch, gleefully melting stuff. I have a self-imposed project and it looks like I'll be meeting my deadline much sooner than expected. Yay!
