Yank's Free Range Turkey Trot Warming House and Bondage Barn

So...anyone absolutely, completely, even-got-the-fucking-wrapping-done ready for ye olde holiday yet?

You have to ask? Yes, except for one because part of the gift needs to stay in the fridge until Xmas. My youngest granddaughter thinks Grandma has the best parmesan cheese, because I freshly microblade it and put it in her own little dish. So for part of her gift I got her her own small dish and a chunk of parmesan, so she can have the same at her house.

the oddest part of the Christmas season are the people who aren't even Christians and still decorate.

That’s me. (^_−)−☆

I grew up in a Christian household. Well, an interesting mix of denominations. Anyway, I grew up with Christmas celebrations and even though I’m an atheist, I still decorate. I celebrate like others, but I don’t have any religious attachment to the holiday. I just like pretty lights and giving people gifts.

^^^^

As an agnostic, I have a great time during the holidays. It's a good excuse to bake goodies that I wouldn't otherwise.

which ironically is again the most Christian-thing-in-spirit possible.
"Find the time to love thy neighbours and share your fortune."

I like to donate to orphanages with a friend for Eid, too. I like these aspects of religion, but I cannot participate fully in a religion as it tends to be unsavory in so many other ways. That is for all religions for me.

That’s human. Or should be. I’ve struggled with American “Christianity” lately. The loudest part of it seems to directly go against the teachings of Jesus.
I was raised Catholic. Don’t even get me started on the Church.

Ah yes, American Jesus, lord of guns, freedom, liberty and BOOTSTRAPS.

Nope that's just being a good person. Don't need to be Christian to do that, despite it being a Christian teaching.

Christmas is becoming more and more secular. Even Christians are forgetting the reason for the season. I personally don't have a problem with people that just enjoy the lights in the cold winter, being kind and generous to others, doing some yummy baking, spending time with family and friends, and maybe giving a gift or two.

I have admired Barack Obama for many years. In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, he "settled " a few popular controversies. My Noo Yawk friends will likely enjoy this.

Obama Settles It

Well, dear reader, it appears that I made it through another Christmas with my grinchiness largely under control. I know that Santa decided I was a good boy this year because the Hershey bar in my stocking had nuts in it (not my fault if his surveillance system is outdated). I think I kept the fruitcake weight gain to three pounds and came away with a few good books to read. All in all, a good holiday.

How about you?

I’m depressed. I know how lucky I am. I have good family, love, support.
Yet.

Honestly, I don't know how anyone with even a shred of empathy could not be at least a little depressed this year. It has simply sucked and you've taken a solid hit from its suckiness, for sure.

:rose: Depression is rough even with good support. Knowing you're lucky doesn't make it any easier to get through it. I wish there was a definite way to get over it. Sometimes it's just as if a switch flips.

Anyone ever use Noom?

I have a friend that was really successful with it.

Anyone ever use Noom?

No. Look into Dr. Jason Fung (books...The Obesity Code, The Cancer Code, The Diabetes Code, The Complete Guide to Fasting and YouTube) and intermittent fasting. Easy and has many health benefits in addition to weight loss.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have read about his books and about intermittent fasting as a method of eating. In fact, my younger son is following this method presently. Thing is, I'm no more impressed by this method than any other method of eating that aims to provide both balanced nutrition and weight loss. It does its adherents good but not uniquely so. Other methods of eating, when followed diligently, produce similar results in those who follow them.

It's not lack of information that is keeping me from changing my habits. It's what's behind my habits. It's that I have only successfully changed my method of eating once, and for only about two years back when I first learned that I had high cholesterol. In the fifteen years since then I've tracked my eating, worked at minimizing my intake of sugar and fat, and worked at managing my portions. None of that has worked for an extended period and it's not the fault of the methods of eating that I found reasons to give them up.

To my eye, the Noom system is more or less Weight Watchers for the App generation. The in-person meetings are replaced by online support groups, but basically every other aspect of WW is present in Noom. The focus on changing habits, the education about nutrition, the coaching by people who understand nutrition and behavior are all elements of WW that have been adapted into Noom and for good reason. These things all help people change their habits. And that, it seems, is my challenge.

The thing that has stood out about noom is that it seems they want you to learn to be able to manage your weight so that you don't have to rely on them forever. I think it is similar to WW. One thing I remember learning with ww was choosing foods that balance one another and not excluding a particular food completely. I need to ask my friend more about noom. I'm not sure if she's still using it. From my understanding, she wouldn't need to continue using it if she continued using what she learned.

That's definitely a point in its favor. I have a long-standing dislike of organizations and programs that survive by making customers into lifers.

This last 24 hours of American politics has bounced me around like a rag doll. I might not feel like being especially social for a while.
