✨Highlights and Bombshells💥

I can appreciate the convenience of streaming services and the easy access to entertainment, but I don't understand the logic (or long-term business strategy) of releasing a film theatrically--only to then release it a month later on some streaming service? It is steadily destroying the moviegoing experience and communal aspect of seeing a film with an audience -- which is part of the art form. Films are meant to be viewed and shared together. ...And good films are meant to be discussed with one another.

Which leads to another first world problem... the slow evaporation of interpersonal relationships. We were meant to be around others, share in experiences, communicate in person... It's frightening sometimes to know that everything we really need can be brought to us without ever having to leave our home.

This is why everybody should watch the film WALL-E. A true future representation of the human race

I don’t even know which movies are out anymore. Maybe this is because I’m fried from my job and it causes me to be a hermit except during the summer, at which time I will be at the 🏖️ . I agree, the buildup to which movies are out in the theaters seems to have diminished greatly.

It’s seem the summer movies are all action hero based on comic book heros.
Not really appealing to me

I agree with this, both as someone who loves movies in the theater and juts someone who likes socializing.

But I don’t consider this a first world problem exactly. It’s a bit more serious than tech just not working exactly how I want it.

Can I get an amen?

If I want an espresso, I will go to a local independently owned shop and have the barista experience. It is always better than what I can make at home, and the cafe experience is rife with opportunities to meet people and connect.

Ooni pizza makers: They’re great, but if I want bona fide Neapolitan wood oven pizza, I am going to a place where experts make the pizza and, again, be in an atmosphere that is convivial and engaging.

Home gyms: Yeah, I get it. I do some “at home” workouts, but even the communal experience of working out with others has a value-added aspect of connection.

@BreukelenAnima, I am with you. I want to leave my home for these above things and more.

I have neighbors who:
- have a nanny
- have landscapers
- have dog walkers
- have UberEats or similar deliver meals at least twice daily

If you outsource your life, what’s left for you besides working and paying taxes?

AUTOCORRECT. AUTOCORRECT IS THE DEVIL.
The man who invented Autocorrect has hair died.

His funfair is on Subway at moon.
*puts on her tinfoil hat*
*adds pink bunny ears*
I hate that most of the things I want to watch aren’t on any of the services I have.
Indeed. Nowadays, I could find (hypothetically) Cheerleader Cumsluts 14 on about 207 different websites. But I can't find Buffy anywhere.

Twenty-five years ago, it was the other way around. And while I like Cheerleader Cumsluts as much as the next pervert, I'm not completely sure that's progress.

Well, one thing can be solved - Buffy is on Disney+ in the US. You need a VPN!

I was just talking to @StacyLeigh about this movie thing the other day. It's kinda been crumby since covid. We started seeing the huge rise of the TV show just before, then we weren't able to go anywhere and I'm sure production was affected, then the strike, and it feels like a long time since a summer full of anticipated releases was a thing. I hope that changes, this summer looks a bit better, I like the movies and even though I have a great set up at home, I prefer going to the theatre, having popcorn, a soda that's way too large for a quarter more, and the giant screen with big sound.

A counterpoint to "outsourcing your lives", I guess it depends on what. I hate doing yard work and while I don't hire someone to do it, it slides because it's not my thing. Some people would outsource that sort of thing (or cooking, cleaning, insert any task you hate here) to have more time to do things that they prefer to do. It can be a way of living more of their lives with things they enjoy rather than stuff they don't.

And if this was a Highlights and Bombshells film assignment, imagine the conversation that might ensue on these pages? Imagine how much more enjoyable the film would be by sharing our reaction, film review, or the story's messaging with one another? Even better would be a Highlights and Bombshells film night with a discussion to follow at the cafe or tavern or the ice cream shop next door. The diminishing impact of films on our society is not just a first world problem, but a global problem. It moves beyond being a tech issue and into a human interaction issue. Film has historically played a significant role in shaping culture and influencing public opinion. A good film inspires, educates and helps shape society. Streaming services combined with major studios consolidating means that creative storytelling and original filmmaking no longer represent the art form. The power of film is replaced by convincing audiences to seek entertainment that is lightweight, convenient and readily available. Home viewing is becoming the industry's preference over the cinema experience. A great deal is lost -- beginning with human engagement.

Exactly - it depends on what, and why. And just to point out what you're describing involves in-person human interaction too.

(Though I'm not convinced about the merits of too much human interaction. Quality over quantity for me!)

Ooh H&B Movie Nights! 🍿
What will be our first assignment?

The Hills Have Thighs?
Sex Machina?
Hand Solo: A Star Whores Story?
E.T.-The Extra Testicle?
You’ve Got Male?
Village of the Rammed?
Saturday Night Beaver?
Gulp Fiction?
Brassiere to Eternity?
King Dong?
Romancing the Bone?
Bitanic?
My Bare Lady?
Womb Raider?

Or did you have something dirty in mind?

I think Saturday Night Beaver makes sense. It goes along with our Jaywalking conversation from earlier.

It’s the Little Things…

Alright we talked about THE WORST. Now how about the best things; the types of things that you almost take for granted. The little things. What are those comforting moments or items, or sounds, or smells, etc. that surprisingly make difficult days tolerable somehow?

(picture below in case it disappears, says “Careful! We may quickly get used to most things and easily forget how amazing they are.” And there are sketches of things like a flower, coffee mug, a cat, a bird, a star, etc)

Is this question more difficult to answer or easier than naming what are some first world problems we have? Why or why not?

I’ve been working my butt off all day and it was pouring rain outside (and pretty damn cold for the end of May), but when I went outside to get the garbage cans, there was that clean rain smell. Even though the day was kind of miserable, everything smelled fresh. It was nice.

This was the first thing I thought of, too. The smell of the rain. I take my dog out for walks, well… very frequently because he’s a young shepherd, but also just because I enjoy it too. My favorite time to go is right after it rains in the springtime in the morning. The smell is so fresh, the mist that rises off of the path, that earthy aroma that the rain brings out, the birds… all of it. 🌧️🌫️🐦‍⬛🌳 It turns my mood around. It clears my head.
