Simple Lit question today.

Do you feel like reactions inhibit conversation on the boards? Would you comment on someone's post in more depth if you couldn't just 👍 it? Do you wish there was more conversational back and forth on Lit? Why or why not?
Have you met me and my post count?

If I got something to say, I say it. A reaction w/o a reply is just an acknowledgement that I saw a post but have no notes.

I am awkward as fuck so sometimes I appreciate being able to leave a little reaction when I don't really know what to say.

There are posts and threads that almost demand a proper response but a lot of stuff on Lit is maybe just a quick joke that wants a quick laugh or someone that seems to be having a ponder or a rant instead of wanting a conversation.

And also I struggle with the timezone difference too. I find loads of posts that were made hours ago where people have replied and said what I likely would have and so it feels redundant to be the delayed echo all the time so then I offer up a 😍 or a 👍 just as a way to acknowledge it.

I think maybe I could write more but then I get in my head about whether it would be wanted anyway. Online social anxiety sucks.

No. I think they're a good way to show support for a post without having to comment, especially when you have no way to add to the conversation otherwise.

Most of the time, like when a beautiful woman posts a gorgeous picture, the 👍is the way to say I love the picture without coming across as a total creeper.
Do you wish there was more conversational back and forth on Lit? Why or why not?
I think there's enough conversation on Lit with or without the reactions. Sometimes, folks are voyeuristic and want to watch the interactions rather than get into one that may already be over the limit.

BTW. 🤗🤗🤗 for @PrettyLilPussy19. 🥰🥰🥰

I recently saw a very good movie (Heretic 8.7/10) and it had me thinking about villians.

Has there ever been a villian (let's stick with fictional ones please) who made you kiiiiinda see their point? Maybe you wouldn't go about it like they did (hides her axe under the bed) but hey you can see why they might want to rampage a small village?

Ursula - first in line to the throne, only to be over ruled by the patriarchy and have to watch her buff baby brother rule the sea?

Then to use her entrepreneurial spirit and become a legit business owner only to have a customer try to get out of a legally binding contract?

Poor Unfortunate Ursula 😢

Poor Pearl just had big dreams, a shitty family, and delusions of grandeur. Sure an ax wasn't the best answer but the sentiment, I think, is a good one.

More dreaming, less creeping Pearl. 😉

Oh, there have been lots!

King Kong
The Frankenstein Monster
Creature from the Black Lagoon
The Wolf Man
Jason Voorhees (sort of)

They are all innocents who were put in a bad situation.

But I think you are asking about a villain who is making choices.

In that case, Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men? His “you can’t handle the truth” speech makes some very valid points.

Harrison Ford in Ender’s Game. His speeches and reasons were pretty valid.

There is a lot to be said for the guy who knows what he is doing may not be seen as good, but also knows it has to be done so other people can be good. 🤷‍♂️

I like a complicated villain. 👍

I mean, Killmonger wasn’t wrong exactly.

Clyde Shelton ( Gerard Butler ) in the movie Law Abiding Citizen. The criminals raped and killed his wife and daughter, Clyde tried to get justice in the Court System and they made decisions to benefit their careers, denying him the Justice he deserved. The criminals got exactly what they deserved, but he went a little too far against the Justice System. I totally sympathize and get why he wanted revenge, on everything that wronged his wife and child.

Walter Peck in Ghostbusters. I'm not sure charging in and shutting down the containment unit without knowing what it would do was a great idea. But having an untested containment unit like that in the middle of lower Manhattan was also probably not a great idea.

Also, I dream of a world where environmental protection advocacy has that kind of power.

You've never been regulated by the EPA. Was once cited for not putting for R&D purposes only for shipping packages from on office to another office of a 30 person company. Clearly a hazard to the environment (the state regulators looked on agahst at the Fed jackass doing it).

Wrong.

Does every regulation make sense? Maybe not.
Have I worked in places that seriously needed more oversight? Absolutely. I won't pretend I wasn't a teeny bit thrilled when I found out a former boss couldn't sell his property because he'd spent years just dumping old ink and printing waste (it was a print shop) in the back lot instead of disposing of it properly. It kind of screwed up his retirement plans. But he was a dick who took every shortcut imaginable and nickel-and-dimed everyone (especially his staff). EPA oversight can be burdensome at times, sure. But in a lot of cases it's absolutely necessary. I think the Ghostbusters containment unit falls squarely into the absolutely necessary category.
