I'm afraid I have some sad news.

Just after midnight PDT, Sassy passed away with her family by her side. Of course, everyone here knows that the last couple of weeks has been extra challenging for Sassy's family and they've kept by her side as she navigated her final journey. She fought cancer with dignity and strength and did not deserve to have to endure this awful, evil disease.

I know Sassy meant a lot to quite a lot of people here. She was truly one of a kind and lived up to her username.

Sassy has been my best friend for the last nine years. She is - and forever will be - in my thoughts.

Rest in Peace Sassy.

RIP Sassy and all my thoughts and love are with her family and friends today.

Grief is the absolute worst emotion humans experience and I hope you all have so much love and support around you. You certainly have an unexpected group of people here who loved Sassy and will keep her memories and spirit alive.

So Sassy's breathing has slowed and she has been pretty unresponsive the last couple days. I fear the time is coming close. But all of the kids are still here, bonding and spending time together...

Rest in Peace Sassy. We all learned what a special woman you are. Your family and Mr Sassy taught us many things through all of this.
To the family, be proud of all you did for your wife and Mom. This time isn’t easy, but you will look back in time to come how special you all are for being there.

So sad to hear this - even though we all knew it was inevitable, it's still a punch in the gut to read the words.
When my dad passed away, in similar circumstances, a friend sent this to me and I've kept it all these years - a yellowing newspaper clipping. I still take it out frequently, when I'm missing him the most, and it brings me comfort. I'll share it with you, @MRSassySheDevil , in the hopes it will give you and your family and all those who love her a measure of comfort as well. It's a piece written by Henry van Dyke.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.

And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

And that is dying...​

Tali, im sad to. We all came to Lit at he same time. Created memories that never will be forgotten. Sassy will be in our hearts and memories forever. And we all meet one day again. But I’m sure right now is is getting hugs from Mrs H, and Patti and all the little friends we lost.

Sassy was helpful and compassionate to me when I faced a breast cancer diagnosis and shared her own journey to help inform my own experience.
I am so sorry that she had to suffer like this but am glad she was surrounded by so much support.
Sassy, I won’t say ‘you fought hard’ because cancer isn’t a battle. It’s just a piece of shit we are faced with, not a fight we’ve lost. But I will always be thankful our paths crossed
Mr Sassy, I hope you find comfort in how loved and respected Sassy was - and is.

Even knowing she was in the final stages, its hard to see this. I knew her casually for years and she was always a consistently kind, good person, and I know several folks who loved her dearly.
