🎵 Monthly Song Challenge 🎵

It's not a Hannukah song in itself, but I think it fits the spirit of the theme @morelikeasong?
I’ll use this since you tagged me… though this is not a call out to just you specifically 💛
The spirit of the theme is supposed to be Hanukkah songs. I was hoping people would expand their horizons and look something up if they don’t know one.

So, to clarify the prompt…
Jewish artist ≠ Hanukkah song

Day 30: A Hanukkah Song

Pink Martini sings a few, but this is my favorite.

Edited to add: I listen to this song a lot during the holidays. I’ve always assumed it was sung in Portuguese. A little digging on it this morning informs me that it is Ladino, a Judeo-Spanish language spoken by Sephardic Jews. Also, my deep dive into the life of Flory Jagoda, who wrote the song, has been mesmerizing.

Day 30: A Hanukkah song

"But in December there's just one place for me
Amid the California flora
I'll be lighting my menorah
Like a baby in his cradle
I'll be playing with my dreidel
Here's to Judas Maccabeus
Boy, if he could only see us
Spending Hanukkah
In Santa Monica
By the sea..."

"Hanukkah in Santa Monica," Tom Lehrer

I love Tom!!!!

the hanukkah song was already taken, so i went to find a rendition of dreidel dreidel dreidel...almost chose the south park version since one of the creators is jewish, but i found this song and took a listen...its actually kind of fabulous...happy Hanukkah!

Day 30: A Hanukkah song

There are so many ways I could go with this prompt! Funny parody, indie, traditional, classic…
I’m gonna go with this one. I grew up with this guy! A few years ago he put out this Hanukkah album and it has been an absolute staple of my Hanukkah celebrations since. I love the classic piano sound. It feels so cozy. And, well, I love cozy.

ETA: I just looked it up and I posted this same song last year 🤦‍♀️
Oh well! It’s a great song! I stand by that!

Day 26: A song from the 00s
I still remember watching this the night it was first broadcast. Even the other musicians in Jools studio were like, wow!
KT Tunstall- Cherry Tree 2004.
That was my other choice for 00s, watching her set it up on the looper was almost better than the actual song which is a fantastic song
