Day 30: A Hanukkah Song

Pink Martini sings a few, but this is my favorite.

Edited to add: I listen to this song a lot during the holidays. I’ve always assumed it was sung in Portuguese. A little digging on it this morning informs me that it is Ladino, a Judeo-Spanish language spoken by Sephardic Jews. Also, my deep dive into the life of Flory Jagoda, who wrote the song, has been mesmerizing.

I love this and delight every time I get to listen to Ari sing 🤩

Day 31: A song to end the year

Someone else posted this a few months back and it has become my personal anthem. This song has carried me through so much grief and turmoil. 2024 was a very difficult year for me and one of immense personal growth. I managed to make it through by dancing around the house to THIS song almost every night.

To 2025! And happiness!!

Day 31: A song to end the year

Fireman's Wedding - Joe Henry
A song about a party, any party and the false hope therein... celebrating "as if all news will be good news from now on" sums up the end of the year... an arbitrary date timed to coincide with other arbitrary dates whilst trying not to admit stealing the entire celebration around the Solstice.
Cynical, yes.
So, here's to another meaningless date and my wish, as every year, is that this is my last one.

I too am a cynic, but an optimistic one. I find each year to be filled with highs and lows.

Agree that it’s just an arbitrary date.

I was gonna choose End on End by Rites if Spring - just the cycle beginning and ending over and over again.

I hope this is not your last one. Hope 2025 is filled with musical discovery.
