Day 5: A Cover Song That is Better Than the Original Part II: This time it's Seether.

Only day five, and I am cashing in my bonus song. I am not a George Michael guy. Never have been. The only song I could stand by him was "Careless Whisper." Also, I am not a Seether guy. Never have been. The only song I could stand by them was a cover of "Careless Whisper."

Honestly, Shaun Morgan does an amazing job on the vocals here, just pouring his heart into this. What he puts into "please stay!" is heartbreaking. And no overdone sexy sax! I bet Andrew Ridgeley probably liked it too.

Day 5: A Cover Song That is Better Than the Original

A little while ago @summer_reine was trying to find a cover of a NIN song, and I was determined to find it... I failed, but found this gem.

I love Trent Reznor's voice and the way he sings the original, but I'm a sucker for a slowed down version of a song by the opposite gender from the original. Also that orchestra... 🀯

There is a comment for this video that really explains why this is so good: "...this is a reimagining of the orginal..." It does take it to a whole other level.

Day 5: A Cover Song That is Better Than the Original

Dinosaur Jr - Just Like Heaven
Controversial... i love the original, but when this kicks in you realise the Cure missed out... also, that ending! dd they run out of tape? It was always fun to play this on the radio for the ending, especially if you weren't at the controls. Large warning stickers were placed on the CD of this and still a presenter would get caught out.
Also, this video is such fun.

Day 5: A cover song that is better than the original.
It's amazing where this thread takes you. I knew Soft Cell's 'Tainted Love' was a cover of a northern soul classic but then i started reading.
It was first recorded in 1965 by Gloria Jones, an American soul singer who found more success in the UK.
Jones eventually joined T-Rex and became involved with, and had a child by, Marc Bolan.
She was driving the Mini when it hit a tree and he was killed and she was seriously injured.
'Fans' ransacked their house whilst she was in hospital looking for memorabilia.

You're breaking my heart today. Firstly, I would argue that GM was a great song writer and singer, but mainly it's because I had my first ever toe curling snog to Careless Whisper, and can't let you get away with dissing it. πŸ˜„

(Also I think I read Andrew Ridley say that George wrote it but put him down as Co writer, as a sort of pension plan for him.

Throughout his career GM did this sort of thing, assigning royalties from songs to certain charities, who are still benefiting today, top guy)

Andrew wrote the music around his own guitar line. The hook was Ridley's.

Day 5: A cover song that’s better than the original (you can post both)
Yesterday I heard this song and my first thought was… Bieber covered a Josiah and the Bonnevilles song?? Of course, that didn’t make any sense; my brain took a second but sorted out that the version I knew was a cover. I found this cover by Josiah about a year or so ago and I have listened to it SO much. It’s one of those songs that I often restart as soon as I finish it. I love acoustic guitar with harmonica, but the lyrics… the lyrics always just hit me so hard. Simple, yet so powerful. And there’s something about Josiah’s voice when he sings it.

When I was grabbing a video to post, I came across this live version and learned a little more. Josiah lost his mom to cancer in 2009 and when he heard this song in a bar, the lyrics reminded him of her. He talked about the messages online he gets about the song and people’s connections to it and people they’ve lost. At the show, he played an additional chorus at the end and told everyone he’d step back from the micβ€”he’d sing it for his mom and the crowd could sing for whomever they needed to. Moments like that at shows are so powerful. Pure connection with music and each other.

β€œYoungblood thinks there’s always tomorrow…”

Justin Bieber - Ghost
(Only redeeming thing about this original version is that Diane Keaton plays his grieving grandmother in the music video)

Day 5 - Cover song better than the original

I like this version of hallelujah although the original is pretty fucking amazing. And Jeff Buckley’s version is great too!

My sisters and I always watch silly movies when we get together. My mom just entered hospice and we thought this movie would be a fun distraction last nite. And it was!

My mom is 95, and a pretty amazing lady and led a pretty amazing life.

Day 3 - A song under 2 minutes

This one damn near makes the bid for under a minute, but it is one of those ones that always makes me laugh. First, Stephen Lynch's first few albums are a treat, and second, the last thing he really describes here is just so....hilariously creepy.

Day 5 - Cover song better than the original

FINALLY a song that I'll confidently say the cover is better than the original. Most covers are excellent but arguably not better, just different.

Aretha Franklin took this and freaking ran with it πŸ’ͺ

Cover:
Respect - Aretha Franklin
(Badass feminist icon who knows her worth and that of the women around her)

Original:
Respect - Otis Redding
(Complaining about his wife... Kinda like the dudes of lit πŸ₯±πŸ€)

Day 5 - Cover song better than the original

I was going to go in a different direction but when I saw Bry's Bob Dylan post it reminded me of this song... And while I appreciate the original, I've never been a huge fan of Bob Dylan's voice. I've always thought he was a phenomenal song writer though. His songs are poetry.
