Antisemitism in Canada

Not really, we agree to disagree. A polite conversation. :)
I fail to see how you can disagree with the logic that others do not dictate what religious affiliation one has or what their beliefs are.

PS: Yes, this is polite conversation by all means.

Your failure to recognize that experiences that an individual was exposed to during childhood may impact life's direction and decisions in adulthood and that religion can be part of those underpinnings. Why do so many Jews turn towards Socialism/Communism? There is an underlying philosophy in their religious experience maybe?

Sorry to hear this sort of thing is happening. Antisemitism is definitely on the rise everywhere.

My personal opinion (that you never asked for 😁 ) is that this is massively down to the following.

- Israel's behaviour, settlers, Netanyahu, their opinions of Palestinians as subhuman, and now actions that are visibly affecting the rest of the world, has more visibility, finally.

- you are always going to get idiots and racists who blame whole religions and races based on the actions of others, conflating all Jews with the actions of Israel.

- you then have the likes of Netanjahu encouraging that same message

- you also have governments and politicians conflating all jews with Israel too, whilst still beating around the bush RE Israel's questionable behaviour, genocide, their actions, sellings arms to them, AND crying wolf over antisemitism so people are desensitised and sick of hearing it, which is reducing the compassion and solidarity that should happen in the wave of such unpleasantness.

- governments have gotten so sloppy with it, they're accidentally feeding the conspiracy rhetoric and having people question the level of influence Israel must have on the world's politics. Again, idiots and racists, who also happen to recognise Israel's poor behaviour, think Israel = all jews.

- we literally had stabbings a few months ago where some guy let out of a mental asylum too early went and stabbed 3 people; a muslim and two jewish people. The papers and government immediately spun the story as 2 dead in antisemitic attack, completely erasing the other poor guy + any of the context.

- no government is doing enough to tackle the rise in antisemitism, because they are not tackling what the actual issue is. They are just IMO making it worse by letting Israel get away with mass murder and conflating all jews with them.

appreciate given the fact muslims were your go-to in your post and use of the word 'liberals' that you may take issue with what I've said. Not looking to cause conflict. It just seems given the above that the cause of the rise in antisemitism is obvious.
The war in Gaza was not a genocide. 🙄

That lie was spread to encourage Jew-hate. If you care about Jewish lives, stop slandering us.

The only point I'm making is that one's family religion and family history does not dictate who they are or what they believe.

If someone comes from a family of Jewish people but they personally do not identify as Jewish, then they're not Jewish. You cannot assert beliefs and positions for other people.
Judaism is a religion and an ethnicity. There are lots of atheist Jews (myself included).

Being a secular Jew doesn’t keep you from being targeted by the antizionists/antisemites. Plenty of secular Jews died in the death camps next to the observant ones.

there is also a genetic link

Within Judaism there is a strong belief that Jews must fight persecution, inequality, and protect workers’ and civil rights. At different periods in history, that was done by socialism.

That's not disputed and does not in any way conflict with my argument and point.

That's not a point I argued, and neither agreed or disagreed with.

I'm obviously only referring to the former.
The point is that it doesn’t matter if a Jew identifies as Jewish. What matter is if the Jew-haters consider him Jewish.

Plenty of assimilated German and Austrian Jews were sent to the camps anyway. It doesn’t make rational sense because bigotry is irrational.

Well, there it is, right?

Is BSG starting to realize that opening the borders to huge numbers of immigrants from anywhere is maybe not such a great idea?

Again, that wasn't my point, though you are reinforcing it by pointing out the irrationality of others dictating who someone is and what they believe.

She won't ever admit it. Not even if she becomes a victim of Muslims merely for being a girl and a Jew.

Worse, if she survives she'll blame Trump.
