Anyone from NY state?

So now that Spring is here where are those warm & sunny days?

Today wasn't bad around here. A bit of bite in the wind but mainly because it's blowing over all those huge snow piles that are left. Got a few more seeds in the mail today (that had been backordered) and can't wait to get out and get dirt under my fingernails.

I hear you on that.

I want to start a Rose garden but I am not sure if roses grow North of the Adirondacks, in Rockland County I had a Rose garden but it was South of the Catskills. :rose:

Check with your county agricultural extension office. Probably listed in the wbite pages under Carnell Cooperative Extension. They will not only know the hardiness but probably the varities and soources for purchase as well. Lots of good info from the extension office - most of it free. Good courses usually offered as well.

I heard that farmers up here grow Cannabis in with the corn crops, it gives the cows more milk production or something like that?

The snow may be melted, but the lonelies are worse than ever tonight... hope the rest of my fellow NY'ers are doing alright.

I'm waiting for the wild turkeys to come back to the cracked corn I put out. But with a lot of the snow gone (not all) they must be browsing elsewhere. The wind is still cold - blowing across what is left of the snow (big dirty piles) makes it even colder.

It's better on Wakiki beach.

The sun is shining, the rain is (hopefully) waiting until the end of the weekend, and I think spring is actually here!!!

This is one of the times of year that I'm happy to be a NY'er.

I am delighted to see the snow receeding as well. But sure can;t wait for it to be a bit warmer. My knees are killing me.

I am happy to announce that there will be no more snow plowing and the lawn mowers are ready to go. :D

I sure hope you optimism holds up. The snowdrops and Winter Aconite are blooming - but they are often covered with snow in many years.

I am afraid the big red maple next to my driveway will have to come down this summer. It was well above the house roof when I moved here 25 years ago. Now has many dead branches - damage from the two ice storms still shows. And two long limbs came down in a storm a few weeks ago. I will miss it - and the marvelous color in the fall. Will give me more sun space for my garden though.

As for spring. It rained today - the first day I could smell the wonderful green and growing things - what I call the first real spring rain.

Last summer I had an OLD Maple taken down for the same reason. That is the purpose of planting 2 new ones. i counted the rings and got 126. The main house was built in 1879. It took 3 chain saws to cut it down. the tree was so hard just wore out the chains. I still have the main trunk to cut up yet most of the rest has been cut up and ready to be split.

LOL I skied around my car yesterday brushing off the snow. My good neighbor had cleaned out my drive for me so I could get to the family gathering for dinner. Snow gradually going. Were you at Holiday Mountain/Valley? Read in my files that I process that they were overjoyed with the late snow and being able to stay open after a late start to the season.

I was planning to go to Holiday Valley, but a friend got two lift tickets to Holimont a private ski "club" on the hills next to H.V. Fewer people maybe only 100 or so, like our own private ski resort.
