ARCHIVAL DISCUSSION to 11-14-08

That's brilliant, Pure. Hopefully your newfound omnipotence will make all the work you do here a bit easier. Thanks for everything!

Pure,

Christmas came a little late this year. Please forgive my use of old military jargon, but IMHO that news is,

OUT-FUCKING-STANDING!

Rumple Foreskin :D

I hope some thread control will enable us to keep the discussion threads on page one, not pushed aside by "Can you help me find the story of the one legged Babylonian caught in a Mycenaean brothel and forced to fellate a statue of Marduk?"

I agree. But that story sound REALLY interesting. Where is it located? :)

News and call for volunteers.

I wonder if there is a volunteer for today or next Sunday.

I've done some housecleaning of threads, and also tried to split off and save the "Killer Muffin" postings that started this 'business' thread. At the moment, however, I can't locate them. In any case, this new thread starts at the right place and makes its nature clear, I hope.

I'm still learning the vast array of Pentagon ultrasecret weaponry that has become available to moderators since the start of the Mideast wars. Laser-guided 'surgical' elimination of postings, for example.

CLEAR?

I hope it's clear what's been re arranged. We are keeping this thread for a queue (its last pp, up to present, remain the same), but I have detached the historical first page and a half which contains directions not currently relevant, along with some good advice. This early material appears in a new thread of archival material.

The *current* information thread follows this one, and I can now ensure the prominence of the correct threads through designating 'sticky' threads.

Wow, that looks like a major house cleaning.

Too bad you can't come over to my place. ;)
Looks nice, Pure. A lot more organized.
My compliments.

Me, too, and me, next.

Very impressive. I'd say Pure has earned a beer. In honor of BT, let's make it a Heineken. Come to think of it, we wouldn't want him to drink alone, would we?

Rumple Foreskin

ps: Pure, if you need a volunteer, I've got a 2650 word short story I'll sacrifice. Let me know if you want to take a look. RF

Thanks for the compliments, Rumple and Black. Can you give me a few hrs, Rumple, I believe mabeuse said he might have something. If so you, Rumple, would be next Sun 13th. If mab declines, would you consider going up today? ( Will get back to you.)

How about it mab?

I can go today or next week. No sweat either way. Of course, I'd much rather give Doc the honors. That way we can pick on him first and he'll be in a mellow mood when mine shows up. :)

Rumple

I'm not adding my voice here. LOL
Last time, doc declined if I recall correctly.

:D

OK, Rumple, yer on.
Please set up the story, now, in its own thread, captioned as always.

(I've spoken to mab.)

Perhaps the term "Grassroots Discussion" can be simplified to just "discussion', since questions of diplomacy are not around. So, something like:

"Discussion: Rumple Foreskin, 2-06-05,
SDC official queue."

Thanks.

It is accomplished.

Thanks, Rumple; it's the usual high quality.

By the way, I hope you and some others like the new look of the first page at the Circle. I believe it now looks like a discussion place more than a kind of 'lost and found.'

Yeah, the old joint was beginning to look a tad ratty. Not only do I approve, so far I've noticed nothing but positive remarks. You must have done something right. Don't let it go to your head. :)

In case you have need of a story for dissecting, I have one available. No hurry, I can wait if necessary.

:D

Pure,

Kudos for a fabulous job moderating this forum.

A thought --

Have you considered an index post inside your INFORMATION sticky listing all the Grassroots Discussions with links to their threads?

I'd be happy to help, if needed.

I've got a story I've written for the "Magic In America" challenge that really needs a looking at. Pure gave me the green light for Feb 20, 2005, so I'll be posting that next.

Very new here, as is immediately obvious. :) I've read 7 or 8 story conversations, and your discussions are terrific. It's pretty obvious that you folk are aware of what you want to accomplish, in your fiction and in your critiques. I especially enjoy it that your stories try to run some risks. Usually the same folk are the ones to offer their thoughts from discussion to discussion, and I'd like to join in when I feel I have something to add --

1) Do I just dive in, or is some sort of preamble recommended and appropriate?

2) Do you ever discuss longer stories, or do you stick to cut/paste & shorter pieces? Guidelines on length? Or do you take selections from something longer? (OK, I think that question should be clear by now  )

Softie, shuffling feet in corner

Don't shuffle your feet!
If you've been lurking a bit, you should know all new blood is highly appreciated. LOL

Dive right in with offering your own comments.
Have you taken a look at the start of this thread?
You can also look up The Paths of Glory in the AH.
Or is that how you ended up here?

I think the most important thing is to give a balanced critique.
What's good and what's bad. Not just one or the other.

:D

Thankx.

Yeah, I know, but sometimes what's policy and what's practice have a bit of ... variance. I'll give it a try soon!

Softie, lookin' forward

Pure,

If no one else is fool enough to stand in front of the SDC firing squad, I'll offer up two stories from which ye may pick. Neither one is probably 100% "right" for this fine forum, but they are available.

Evening in the Spring of '68 is a 975 word short story. It serves as a semi-prologue to my second novel. The subject is the beating and arrest of an innocent black man in the south during an evening in the spring of '68.

The other comes in at around 4000 words, a short-story adaptation of a chapter from my first novel. It would probably be posted in First Time, if for no other reason than the current title is, First Time. (Don't I have a way with titles?)

If someone else steps forward, I'll gladly step aside. It'd be fine by me if we spent another week working over Doc's story or on any revisied version he might see fit to lay on us.
