are Americans really stupid ?

During the War of 1812 the fort's guns sank the Provincial Marine schooner Seneca on 21 November 1812. British forces captured the fort on the night of 19 December 1813 in retaliation for the burning of Niagara nine days earlier. The British held the fort for the remainder of the war until they relinquished it under the terms of the Treaty of Ghent. It has remained in US custody ever since.

FORT NIAGRA NEW YORK

Not exactly.
While I disagreed with a few other comments that she made (I found them to be a tad racist), those that you quoted weren't entirely wrong.

Regardless of country, crime rates tend to be higher in minority groups of lower socioeconomic status.
That doesn't have as much to do with the poverty level, as with the degree to which they are stigmatized and marginalized by the mainstream society.

Imagine being a young man and growing up surrounded by all these negative messages from massmedia or even your own people: that you're no good or inferior. You're quite likely to either end up hating them or internalizing the oppressive messages (which in men leads to the same anger and acting out).

the poor i'm talking about are in places where they don't have much time to pay attention to mass-media. i'm not talking about your 'welfare poor'; i'm referring to the poor poor. i never had a drama through central america, except in costa rica where i got my bag stolen ... by a fucking gringo.

in vietnam there was no need to lock the bicycle because nobody would steal it - except for some dumb foreigner.

here in thailand i can leave things in the sidecar of the motorbike, including the crash helmet - guess what, when i get back from wherever the shit's still there.

yeah, mebbe disadvantaged people in the west commit crimes out of desperation and necessity; but 'being poor' is bullshit.

This poster has just demonstrated that US education is indeed somewhat lacking.

It is a matter of historical fact that the motor car was invented by Germans. The telephone, iron steamship, and television were first created by Scots. There are arguments about who invented the submarine, but the USA was certainly not the first state to use it successfully in warfare. Most early work on computer development was done in the UK.

What the USA has been really good at is developing technology developed by others, and selling it commercially. A bit like the Japanese...

Cars, airplanes, telephones, computers, I pads, Smart phones, google, PC's radio television, movies, Iron ships, submarines, the assembly line, netflix, amazon, ebay,

Just a few things invented by stupid Americans.

Poor education, yet we have more foreigners coming her for an education that any other country.

Poor food that is exported to every country in the world.

Poor Pokticians Do you know what poor means? Most of our politicians are among the wealthiest Americans. (That was a joke)

Poor Standing in the world, yet highest rate of immigration in the world.

Extreme poverty includes owning a car, and a computer.

Many who live ont he streets do so voluntarlly die to mental illness. There are programs run bu the government and private groups to help those who want it.

99.8% of people earning minimum wage are under the age of 20, working their first job and living at home with their parents. Why should someone with no skills, no work history, earn more? Besides minimum wage in the US is better than the full time salary of professionals in some countries.

I'll never vote for a woman who is a proven liar, theif, unethical, immoral, and treats servants like she's some fuedal lord.

NOt from me. Others maybe, but I don't inslut those who disagree with me.

I don't agree with your opinions but I can respect you as a person.

Americans saved Europe from being one nation under Germany twice.

They were late to both of those wars because it was in their business interests to trade with Germany until it wasn't.

During the Civil War England continued to trade with the Confederacy as well as the union. At least until they massed troops on the Canadian border threatening to invade. Ever hear of the Lend Lease Act

How about the US delivering Aircraft to Canada in violation of numerous international laws.

We were attacked by Japan, yet we agreed to save England bu focusing on Europe first.

America has given teh world every major advance of the 20th century. Cars computers, airplanes, telephones, televisons, internet, smart phones, ebay, amazon, facebook, I could go on and on and on.

Yes I'm afraid you could!

The only country who has never had an enemy army occupy it.

The Native Americans might disagree with you on that.

The United States of America was founded on July 4 1776. From that day to this, no enemy army has occupied any portion of the country under control of the Federal Government.

We're so lazy we lead the world in medical advancements, technological breakthroughs and our president is called "Leader of the Free World"

No it doesn't "lead the world". Besides, Australia punches above its weight on many (recent) medical and tech breakthroughs but you would not know that.

Because it's Australia. They never make teh news good or bad. I can't control what media conglomerates report on.

How many children do you know that have most every country in the world asking for money or military help?

????

You call us children but everyone comes to us for help. We're more like the worlds rich uncle, and police force.

America doesn't ask for help from other countries. Nor do we go running to other countries to help us out of trouble.

US asks for help from Australia (Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan), US bases in Australia assist US military surveillance (to our shame and possible future detriment).

Buying/leasing land from you for a base is not asking for help. That's called business. How many Austrailian military bases are set up in the world? Do you even have an army? Oh yeah you do have one. One that got their asses kicked by Emus. No wonder you have our bases their. You need people who can win a war.

Go ahead and throw a few insults my way so I can add you to my ignore list.

And again they occupied a single fort. What city or town or village was occupied. How many civilians were under British rule? The answer is zero.

Once again to be an army of occupation you must occupy cites and towns and villages, for weeks not hours. You must take control civilian populations. Never Happened.

uhm, Britain (not just England) didn't need saving in either world war. the germans only got as far as the channel islands in WW2, the mainland was never occupied. it was the russians who beat the shit out of the germans in that war.

you sacrificed brave men to liberate france, et al, but you didn't 'save' the uk.

The poor Brit men hadda eat pussy instead of cock. It was an ordeal for them.

You're right too.

What I was trying to get at tho was that crime rates are likely to be higher among people (or minority groups) who are marginalized or -for a better word-, "stigmatized" by the mainstream society.
And, since those groups are often impoverished, there is definitely a correlation between poverty and crime.

So what you're saying and what I'm saying can be both valid, since it's a matter of the mainstream's society's attitude towards those particular groups.

so that brings me back to calling BS on this:

1.I don't know much about the States, but from browsing the net this sounds right if we're talking about rates or so on
"Fact blacks represent a small portion of the US population.
Fact Most crimes are committed by blacks."

2.This is the more confusing part, you're right:
"Fact when adjusted for poverty level, Blacks Whites and all other races commit crimes at the same rate
The poorer the person the more likely they are to commit crimes, it has nothing to do with race, religion, or location."

It's not entirely clear to me what she meant, but I chose to interpret it in a way that suited me.

Don't even know where to begin.

CSS Hunley first submerisible to sink a ship in battle 1864.

George Seldon Applied for his automobile patent in the US in 1879 Karl Benz applied for his in 1886.

I could be wrong but I believe 1879 is before 1886

I didn't say Iron steamship I said Iron ship. The Monitor and Merimack

Alexander Graham Bell widely recognized as the inventor of the Telephone

Thomas Edison alone invented hundreds of things including electric lightbulbs

Philo T Farnsworth an American made the first complete all electric television.

IBM is the American company that made teh first PC's. Work happened around the world as their name would imply International Business Machine, but they were and are an American company. Since employers legally own any and all intellectual property made on their dime, Yep that's the US too.

Nice try with the revisionist anti American history.

I am so very proud of you, going to all that trouble to research your stuff.

But can I point out (hate to burst your bubble),,but you haven't mentioned much that was invented by Americans in the last 30 or so years. Why not? IQ dropped has it?

So, off you go then, it's due in the morning.
And I expect an excellent effort from you miss.

Facebook, Amazon, Iphones, Ipods, Ipads, (all mentioned before) if you want more...

HIV is chronic not fatal like it was 30 years ago. Same with most cancers. Thanks to American pharmaceutical companies

Laser eye surgery, every google product, email, the internet, robotic surgery Numerous medications that ended the need for certain surgeries like ulcers. Digital cameras, smart phones, Windows OS Stealth warships, 3d printers, and american companies Like AT&T and schools like MIT were a driving force behind HDTV.

shall I go on?

Once again you demonstrate your ignorance.

Just one example: Alexander Graham Bell, like Carnegie, was born and educated in Scotland, not the USA:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Graham_Bell

Go learn some history before you demonstrate yet again the deficiencies of US education.

Don't even know where to begin.

Oh, and computers. IBM may have developed the first pc, but that wasn't the first computer. Historians of technology, even in the USA, accept that the British Alan Turing was the key figure in the development of the computer:

You live and learn when exposed to those who grew up respecting history, and not a rather slanted US variant of it.... of which I'm sure most sensible US citizens are thoroughly ashamed.

And the motor car, or as it's known in the USA, automobile.

You appear to be so ignorant, you can't even spell Selden. Yes, he APPLIED for his US patent in 1879. It wasn't granted till 1895, by which time Benz was manufacturing motor cars commercially:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_automobile

Who is going to trust any of your claims when you have been proven wrong in detail on several now?

I know of My Turning, and as it says in your linked source
your link said:
He also laid the groundwork for modern computing and theorized about artificial intelligence.

So saying he invented the computer is like saying Picasso invented the airplane because he drew a picture.

Shall we also discuss Charles Babbage, or Sir William Thompson?

If you want to discuss Analog computing devices, we can go back to the abacus which is an analog computing device.

I was talking about digital, reprogramable computers which were invented by John Vincent Atanasoff at Iowa state college in the early 30's.

You are really a rather silly girl, too blinded by the alleged wonders of the USA to respect history.

And for the record, yes, I'm proudly Scots. But I'm also an old professional economist who has always realised that to understand how things work, including the economy, one has to understand where they came from. So economic history is part of my training and my life.

In the course of which, I have come to recognise and admire the many contributions the USA has made to human progress. Nobody intelligent can be blindly anti-American; that is just ignorance.

Comparable to the ignorance of some US citizens, who are unable to bring themselves to admit that any other nationality could possibly have made any contribution to human well-being.

Really, you should stop bringing US education into disrepute by broadcasting your ignorance. And your apparent inability to accept when you've been proved wrong.

I know of My Turning, and as it says in your linked source

Perhaps you mean 'I know of Mr Turing'?

That's twice I have noticed that you have mis-spelled names. Careless about that? No wonder you're also careless about historic facts...
