Hey Photoguy...
I love camping and did a lot of it growing up. Don't get the chance very often anymore, though. Some wonderful spots I remember: one was a place called Point of Pines, above the Safford area, another was between White River and the Hondah turn off up in the White Mtns. It was near a fish hatchery, and there was a running creek right next to our campsite. We were there in Oct. I believe, and the best part was that it snowed lightly one night when we there. Mmmmm...best memory from that was hot coffee in the early morning with the smell of wood fire, and hot cocoa and hot apple cider at night around the campfire. And brrrrr...it was deliciously cold!
Of course, summertime camping was fun too...Roosevelt and Apache Lake for water skiing and tubing, Lake Pleasant for renting pontoon boats and jet skis. Fishing at Big Lake near Sunrise, and Woods Canyon Lake, which is up on the Mogollon Rim near Payson. All beautiful areas. We usually liked tent camping, but sometimes took a camper instead. Wow, what great memories!![]()
Hey Zonies!! The wind finally stopped blowing up here.. was a wonderful day!

my friend posted this elsewhere. i thought it was perfect
Arizona - It's the devil's playground
The devil wanted a place on earth, sort of a summer home, a place to spend his vacation, whenever he wanted to roam.
So he picked out Arizona, a place both wretched and rough, where the climate was to his liking, and the cowboys hardened and tough.
He dried up the lakes in the valley, then burned and scorched it all, He dried up the streams in the canyons, and ordered no rain to fall.
Then over this barren desert, he transplanted shrubs from Hell, the cactus thistle and prickly pear, the climate suited them well.
Now the home was much to his liking, but animal life he had none, so he created crawling creatures, that all mankind would shun.
First he made the rattlesnake, with its forked poisonous tongue, taught it to strike and rattle, and how to shallow its young.
Then he made scorpions and lizards, and the ugly old horned toad, he placed spiders of every description, under the rocks by the side of the road.
Then he ordered the sun to shine hotter, hotter and hotter still, until even the cactus wilted, and the old horned toads looked ill.
Then he gazed on his earthly kingdom, as any creator would, he chuckled a little, rolled up his sleeves, and admitted it was good.
T'was summer now and Satan, lay by a prickly pear to rest, the sweat rolled off his sweaty brow, so he took off his coat and vest.
"By golly", he finally panted, "I did my job to well, I'm going back to where I came from, Arizona is hotter than hell!"
It doesn't get any better than Arizona![]()
HEY....I LIKE horny toads..!!
(Very cute, Ender..)![]()
I use to catch them when I was a kid.. keep them in a coffee can for a day or so then turn them loose in the fire wood stack... they kill rattlesnakes.. you know![]()

Me too! Use to catch them, play with them and let them go. They squirt blood out at you too sometimes, which at that point made me let them go to disappear. But they seemed to like being petted, and were so wonderfully dinosaur-like. Like desert tortoises, too...Tortoises are my favorite of all desert creatures.

'...came running'...haha, that's cute! We used to have some friends that had a tortoise that they'd had for quite a few years. It lived in the house, and would sleep inside their closet. We were over one time, and I was laying on the floor playing with their two small dogs, when I see movement out of the corner of my eye. Here comes this tortoise, heading down their hall, through the living room and out the doggy door! My friend said "Oh, he's just going out for some grass and to go to the bathroom". I was astounded. There is something so prehistoric-looking about them, but gentle. Well, except for yours, Sunny....My mother was always smuggling tortoises home from the desert.. we had one that love to bite bare toes. He paid close attention every time my sister and I came outside, the minute we would step off the patio without shoes he came running.![]()

Had a great weekend! Pumpkin patch with the kids, stopped for hiking/mountain climbing at Gates Pass, and picnic at the park. And my team won too! Woohoo 'Zona! Glad your team did good too. And I am so DONE with this heat! There is just something wrong with picking pumpkins in a field with horse drawn wagons, and corn-field mazes....in the frickin' sizzling 96 degree heat! Sheesh! Enough already...someone needs to talk to whoever figures these things out and tell them we're tired of it!Hey everybody...
Hope you are doing well, hopefully the cooler weather comes back...I'm over the temps.
Did everybody have great weekends? My team won so that ended the losing streak. Woohoo.
Later peeps.

WOW! Gone so long I had to read 8 pages 3 months worth of posts to get caught up on the news.
So a shout out to my ole freinds Sunbunny and Shykittie, and a hello to all the newbies and out of towners visiting the thread. I keep saying this but I am definitely going to have to visit more often seems I am missing all the fun.
Hey sportsfans what a year for college football, so many ups and downs, glad to see the Cats doing so well but hey they lost 2 that they should have won and would be undefeated, this week could be a real exciting game, I think it depends on which team shows up, the one that laid down at Stanford or the one that jumped up and smacked Cal. Yea kittie you are right about Cardnal fans in Tucson, I agree that high school football gets more attention than they do. The best weather in the world is about to come to Tucson, I hike all summer but avoid anything long now I can do a couple of those canyon hikes I have been looking forward to all summer, but I think I will warm up with one that I always enjoy and do Wasson Peak in the Tucson Mts.
I don't remember who but some one was talking about racing, Tucson has 2 great circle tracks SIR a great dirt track just east of the airport and then there is Tucson Raceway Park out at the fairgrounds and if you like drags there is a strip at the fairgrounds too. I go often to the dirt track lots of great great racing.
Anyway glad to see all are well and thought I would say HEY!!
Go CATS a Trojan upset would be too cool......

*smiles and waves to the AZ gang*
Okay who missed me? No, no...don't be shy, it's okay to say that you missed my "lurking somewhere in the shadows" aura.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weeks so far. Just 2 more days until the weekend. Whoop!

Hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather.![]()
