Hmmm. I want to be good . Respect is earned, but I give it until I am given a reason not to. Once that happens I feel no obligation to be decent. I want people to act human, don't pretend to be something you are not. I'll take a jerk over a fake any day.

Mother Theresa would be good.
Talk about a woman who did so much charitable works and such.

Calling her decent would be an insult.

But for the rest of us regular people, we can't do all she did. All we can do is love one another, respect one another and get along as best as we can.
And please don't confuse decent with fake. Being fake is not at all good for anything. I try to be a decent guy. Not in a fake way, but because it's easier to be real and decent rather than fake and whatever.

I doubt you will ever cross me. You seem to be a genuine person.

It's interesting that charity and actions define someone as good. We have no idea what was in her heart or thoughts though. She may have had a lit account. Would that change her status as good?

Decent can sometimes be fake. If you pretend to like someone you can't stand for outward appearances, then I don't find that decent at all.

I'm not one for kumbiyah (still can't spell that word) but getting along with everyone defeats the point of being different. I can dislike someone but still respect who they are and treat them that way.

Plus what would I do with that many friends? Enemies are easier, they don't come over for dinner, muhahahahaha!

If you know the possible consequences of your actions and are prepared to accept them, they can't destroy anything. They can shift the timetable a bit, but life is about being flexible.
