Good morning, everyone...

Hey Snake I would be very happy to wake up to 42 degrees. I am waking up to 10 degree weather with winds.

My boss and wife gave birth to there first child on Wednesday. He is on vacation this week. He would have to come in and cover for the other worker that requested this Saturday off. I told my boss to stay home and enjoy his vacation with his new daughter. I didn't have any plans this weekend. Used to spend the weekend with my lady. Keeps my mind off of her so I don't mind.

As far as Webbo is concerned. As far as Webbo is concerned it gotta be rough dealing with all that warm weather ALL the time...

OK gang I need to get ready for work. Want to wish one and all a super great day...

Getting towrds the end of our summer here, and yes guys in my part of the country it does get down to - 20 during the winter....don't get snow because we're too low.

Yep have been out riding and enjoying it as much as possable because the good wheather ain't gonna last.

Things Happen For A Reason Don't They

How Is Everyone? Just been chillin here in the Virginia. Literally chillin. Freezin is more like it. Low the other night of 5 with a wind chills of -10 and colder. Not much riding going on.

Had to share a story with you all especially my Vet friends.

I recently signed back up to the Virginia Guard. I transfered as a non MOSQ 46Q (Journalist Writer/Photographer) back to 11B - Infantry which is my long time MOS. Crazy yeah but did it for the money. Yeah 15 grand is too tempting to pass up. They kept promising me next week you should have it..... next week. Well after about 8 next weeks I got tired of it and started making phone calls this week. I was told their was a glitch in the deal and I would not be getting a bonus. I was told that I should have never been promised a bonus. I hit the freaking roof. I was then basically given two options. One is to do their "Try One" b.s. where you stay in for a year and try it out. I would then be qualified for the bonus. Which I told them maybe if they put me in a 46Q slot again and send me to school to get MOSQ over that year period of time. That I would sign for the 6 years at the end of the year. They said we would talk about it this weekend.

I am not really a religious man but I have always been a firm believer that all things happen for a reason. This week I have been very angry about this bonus deal. I lead a good life, my only vice being Mt. Dew and Smoking and the Harley if that can be considered a vice. It certainly is an addiction. Good things should at least balance the bad. I was really wondering why all this was happening to me. I needed that money bad or I would not have moved back to 11B. I had even budgeted accordingly and had allowed a few weeks outside the time frame I was promised I would get the $$$. My budget was and still is looking dire.

I got my answer on a phone call that I placed to the unit a few minutes ago confirming 1st assembly time in the morning. They informed me that the unit is on full alert and expected to get full orders for deployment to Afghanistan over the weekend. Things happen for a reason don't they.

Don't get me wrong here folks. I do not agree with some of the President's actions but I am a good soldier and I do what those in command ask me to do. Unlike some officers that have been in the news lately. Not that I would mind even mind going at all. I have not been deployed in 14 years of service so it would be like "great, point me in the right direction." There is no fear for safety there at all. In fact I am a true 11B and would love to go shoot some stuff up and come back with a pretty Combat Infantry Badge. A pretty big deal for an Infantryman. However, that Hoooah stuff is for the young guys. As an old guy it is not a good thing. My old bones are creaking now. Mostly from line of duty injuries during training exercises over the 14 year period. I imagine after a tour of Afghanistan with an infantry unit the bones would not be creaking but would be screaming. It would really hurt me.

I believe they had a clue earlier this was going to happen because they told me I might be sent to Ft. Pickett, VA during the month of January for Soldier Readiness Processing. I asked them what that was, as it was foreign to me. I was told it was something they did now because of the state of affairs with quick deployments happening all the time and all of that. No big deal they told me. I told them no problem just let me know with a little advanced warning. All the time the birdy in the back of my head saying Soldier Readiness Processing sounds like something that is not a good thing. That never happened in January but wish they would have given me a little heads up. I might not have gotten my dander in an uproar or my blood pressure up as certainly happened this week. Instead would have been wiping my brow.

I guess this all seals my fate and unless miracles happen over the weekend with the promise IN WRITING of a new MOS then Monday I will make the request for a discharge due to bogus contract. All the while will be thanking my lucky stars.

Lesson to be learned here. Good things do happen to good people.

Soldier readiness sounds like our PDT - Pre deployment Training, it's where they get you ready for the area you will be serving in.

No that starts just after SRP. PDT will begin probably in March or April. Call up for 6 weeks stateside for additional PDT in May then in country by July for a year.

It's Saturday morning and I'm still trying to wake up. I have to get ready for work in a little while. Saw a couple of pictures of my boss's new daughter. She is a cutie... He gets to send a couple of more days with her and wife before having to return to work.

Well Doc it's good to see yah back. I hear you on the additional money. However having carried that same infantry mos brings back a lot of bad memories. In Nam if a person was running around waving a weapon he or she was the enemy and you simply shot'm. In Afghanistan they all run around carrying weapons... Sound like your gonna need to carry a lot of magizines... Remember dead men hesitate to squeeze the trigger. I won't try to talk ya out of what your doing. But give it serious thought. Death is permanent... Thats for one soldier to another.

Snake that raw deal may just be my freaking saving grace. Given the news that the commander said he was ok with an MOS change but it was up to his bosses for final approval, I think I will excercise my other option. Especially with all that is going on around here.


It is SRP by the way. They sent me anyway just because they could. SRP is where they make sure your paperwork, your medical, and all your legal affairs and such are in order. They give you tips about deployments, get your family signed up for support groups, etc. al.

You know the Army is a funny thing. Instead of looking for it when something is lost they just replace it or make you do it over again. Unfortunately most of my records have not caught up with me. So there was a lot of doing over today and yesterday. In the missing records, of course, were my shot records. All of you that have done basic remember the worse part about the first few days. SHOTS. Well I could not reason with them by showing them a DD-214 proving I had been to basic. NOOOOOOO we had to do them all over again. 9 shots. My arm hurts like hell. We don't recover as well when we are older guys and gals. Do we? If I remember day 2 and 3 are even worse. So I can't wait for tommorrow and Tuesday.

I hesitate to broadcast this on the net but it is not where I was originally told. We are actually going closer to the daily grind. If this all comes together as I am hearing and seeing it is big. Who knows what is up but given the numbers this is way outside the plan that we have been hearing about. It may even have something to do with the lastest news from the region. Telling you all I got a feeling something is under foot.

Making it clear, I am not like the Lt. in Washington. Never been pro ANY war especially this one but I gave my word and out of that and most importantly honor I would serve until my death. However, gosh dang it, they gotta at least hold up their end of the deal if I am holding up mine. Ya know. So hopefully 100 percent more next week.

Woohoo and 18 degree morning... We're having a heat wave. I am so used to single digit mornings that this is gonna be a treat.

Doc sounds like you're are set in your mind. I get pretty wound up seeing what is going on and we all know that we don't see how bad it really is. When they tried to send my son in law back over I had to deal with the government again... You get to see how fucked up these people really are! Think I pissed some people off when I asked how many of them had sons and daughters there now? Buddy I'm a vet. I wear my dog tags every day hopefully to bring good luck and speed the return of the men and women there. No matter what happens terrorism is going to be around for a while. It is not going to be confind only to europe. My thoughts will be with you while your there. Stay in touch with us here on are little thread if you can. It will give us a little peace of mind seeing you alive. From one ol'e soldier to another stay safe my friend! You're always welcome here...

Wow got out in the wind for about an hour tonight. I felt like crap as I got on the saddle but with the cold weather coming this week I wanted to at least get 'er out and get it warmed up. Do I feel ever so good now though. Came home put away the groceries I bought in preperation for some bad weather and even cleaned house. They need to package that up and sell it. Could make a million bucks right there.

Well guys and gals I turned in my request for discharge so now it is hold the breath until they make a decision. But the bike ride cleared my mind. If it happens to be meant to be then it happens to be meant to be. So be it.

Will keep everyone on the thread posted as things go down.

...Well it has warmed up here today, but it's raining, could have been worse, and had ice/snow. S'pposed to be changin' tomorrow nite, and maybe some winter precip, but like I have said before, we've been very lucky, and most all the winter weather has missed us...

I normally ride a lot during the winter, but anymore, all the travelin' we do, is in the cage, and the gr-daughter goes with us.......Wouldn't have it any other way either...
...I hear ya 'bout building a bike jade, but I have had a trailer frame here, since last year, and have had so much goin' on, I haven't even built a bike-trailer, which was what i had in mind when i bought the dang thing...and here it is almost spring again, and looks like it may be awhile before i get anything done with it..

Hey Snake I have been considering trying to find a used single horse trailer and setting it up as a enclosed motorcycle trailer. I could set the front section up with a place for tools and wire it for lighting. Gotta take care of my iron horse...

Well looks like I've got a north east'r taking aim on me. It is supposed to start up this evening. Hear we're going to get 2 to 5 inches by Wednesday morning. Then it's supposed to be a sleet and ice condition all Wednesday until evening when it is going to turn back to snow before ending. So tomorrow should be exciting. We will be very busy today at the store. We will be completely sold out of milk, bread, and toilet paper. It never fails to amaze me...

Springs over...Winter returned

18 degrees outside with two inches of new snow. But there's a promise of 50 degree weather this weekend...I'll live. Took the Mrs. out for Valentines Day after seeing the chiropractor and my internist this AM. Got good news, my blood pressure has returned to normal after being out of whack for three months...I'm ready for my trip to the west coast as soon as the weather breaks. BTW any of you folks see the movie "The World's Fastest Indian" with Anthony Hopkins? Man, what a flick. Best motorcycle movie I've seen since Easy Rider.

Dinny the movie "The world's fastest Indian" is that a new movie or older movie... I haven't heard of it. There is a movie called "Ghost Rider" but that looks like one of those super hero movies. It is more of a humor entertainment type movie from what I have screen on the t.v. pre view movie clips. Glad to hear that ya got you BP under control. I have to go for a physical soon. I already know my blood pressure and sugar count is up.

I hope everyone enjoyed Valentines Day with the honeys yesterday...

It's a chilly morning here in Woodbury. I have 10 degrees. There is a bit of a breeze outside giving us a wind chill fact of minus 0 degrees. Total sleet / frozen rain mess outside is 5 inches. The airport is closed for now, I am going to go outside and throw some rock salt down before leaving for workin hope that some of this stuff melts.

Made in 2005, filmed in New Zealand and in Utah... I loved it cause I've done a lot of riding and traveling around Wendover over the years. I'm sorry, I like Nick Cage as an actor, but that Ghost Rider flick looks like shit from the ads on TV. Look it up on Imdb, or Google Anthony Hopkins Films...better yet you can get it used on Amazon real reasonable.

I have this gut feeling are good friend Snake is putting all sorts of overtime getting the roads clean and Doc has a important decission to pounder.

The road was beckoning this morning but damn it would you not know it the bike is frozen in place. The people did a great job of clearing our sidewalks and parking lot including many of the spaces. However since the bike was parked the worked around it piling snow and ice all around it. After 20 minutes of hard work finally got it to where I can stand it up but no such luck on getting it to go backwards. 'Bout wore myself out trying to rock it back. Would get it to move about 3 or 4 inches but not enough to clear the ice around it. Oh well. Suppose to really get warm next week.
