Well I'm at a dead stop.... Actually tearing down the the van to get the old waterpump went pretty smooth. I like to clean thing off before re assembly. Thats only me it just seems to look neat'r... Took out the new pump opened up the gasket bag and there was a read important change slip in the bag. They changed the pulley mount stud from standard to meter. The studs form the old pump that holds the pulley in place is different and won't work... Now having been a parts specialist I would have included a footnote about that change. As a note to myself to sell the customer four new studs and nuts. That change affects every vehicle that uses that part number...! So this way my customer wouldn't be in my predicament. We're only talking four new studs and nuts. I would have thought they would be with the new pump...

This only fortify's my beliefs that we are striving to become a nation of total incompetence and we are making giant leap each day... Very few people take pride in what they do...! Granted this is only a miner problem. But now I can't finish todays project...

Tomorrow the van and pump wil still be there..you get up early, grab a cup of joe, head back to the parts deparment, smile sweetly all the while telling them they have their heads up their asses, get the studs and nuts (that sounds like a porn title,lol), fix the van, and still have enough daylight left to enjoy the day.

I agree with you on one thing though...the work ethic in this country is horrid. I have a full time job and a part time job...both very intese, yet the 20 somethings I work with complain they work too hard for too little...gee what did they think their parents did all those years while paying for Susie's dance lessons and Johnny's BMX bikes?

Well the only problem is I don't keep my Wing at the house and would need the van to drive there and get it... I usually leave my van there and go out on the bike. I have replaced numerous water pumps and figured it would be a cake walk.

I worked as a service manager in a very busy dealership in Bridgeport for a while. I was in need of a second service advisor and we placed a ad in the local paper. I did not need a top notch advisor and was willing to train some what. That person would be required to have some automotive knowledge so not to sound like a complete idiot on the front desk. I had a young man apply for the position if my memory serves me right he was like twenty and was living with his girl friend at is parents house. They recently had a baby. To gain more depth about this kid I asked him what attracted him to becoming a service advisor. I was expecting to hear that he was starting a family and wanted security for him, his girl friend, and their bay. His response was his current job was very stress full. That he wanted a change. His current job was part time working at Burger King making french frys. Now I may be going off here a little bit but just how stress related can making the french frys be... I mean you put the fry in the basket. You lower the baket into the deep fryer and push the timer button. When the buzzer goes off you take the basket out of the deep fryer and dump them into the pan next to the deep fryer. You the put more french frys into the basket. Lower the basket into the deep fryer and hit the timer button again. To top this all off he only did this a couple of days a week. Now I'm sorry but I just don't see stress here... Needless to say I did not hire him for the position. My greatest fear was that I would come into work and find him swinging on the end of a rope in my department. Christ I would be tired up with the police for day and the paper work would be incredible. I don't know it has to be just me...

I remember applying for a job one time when I was 17 to work in a garage (and I even worked for Burger King ne time myself). Now I was competant at changing oil, tune ups, changing tranie fluid, fan beltsa, all the small stuff garages usually handed to the teenagers back then. I was in competition wiht 3 guys for the job. The manager looked us over, then asked each one of us...if I needed you to fill in a weekend evening woud you come it...I was the only one to say yes. DId I ge the job...hell no...I was told to trot back on home and go play with my barbie dram castle,lol. The funny thing is...he had us change oil and rotate tires as a test..I was the only one who caught the tire with the screw in it... needless to say the kid they did hire lasted 1 week...I got a call but said sorry..I got a job at Caldor's (remember that place?) instead..not as much fun but payed better.

Trust me I don't have a problem working with a woman. Climbing the ladder in the automotive business I worked at a dealership as one of three advisors. Two guys and one gal. I am extremely competitive. She was young and very attractive. Of course all the guy customers wanted to deal with her... We became good friends and we began competing against one another to see who had the highest sales of the day. None of the things we sold the customer was fudged. We would actually take the customer out to their car to show and explain the problem. I never had a problem giving the customer their worn or broken parts. Also what would will happen if not repaired. She and I were professionals. The department sales soared and the service manager loved it. Well the third guy couldn't adjust to working with the young lady and eventually quit. I had a great time...

I meet a gal on Myspace recently. She built her own Harley custom. Really nice bike... She wants to go ride'n together. I'm looking forward to have her as a wing person...

And we haven't even started to Sturgis yet... put another 200 miles of mountain riding... including 9 miles on a dirt grade over the ridge to Deckers, CO... we're ready for anything. I found out today we've got 40+ riders in our group paid for Sturgis as of today... picked up another rider looking to join up this afternoon. This is really turning out to be cool!

It's the start of a beautiful day here in Woodbury. Looks like we are heading into a heat wave this week temperatures climbing into the ninety's.

Well my plans for the day is to finish installing the water pump.

I found out today we've got 40+ riders in our group paid for Sturgis as of today... picked up another rider looking to join up this afternoon. This is really turning out to be cool!

Sounds like your gonna have a great group heading to Sturgis. We just did over 1200 miles over the last week up to Laconia NH. Did some dirt riding up on MT Washington. It was 76 or better at the base and 43 up on the mountain. Great day with lots of sun.

Zipped around past the Mt Washington Hotel and down into Bartlett, across Bear Notch Road and back over the Kancamagus Highway. Lotsa bikes out everywhere, especially at the scenic overlooks on the Kanc. Now it's back to the daily grind...and wait until next year for bike mania!

Loved riding through the White Mountains last week. We danced through the raindrops a couple days but overall we were very lucky. Took a run up to Freeport Maine to enjoy the ocean and good seafood there. Great dinner at the Muddy Rudder.
Too bad today was back to reality and the old daily grind. Saw plenty of riders still returning from Laconia NH today and wished I was out on the bike.

Well it's typical Aussie winter here at the moment - rain, wind and bugger all sun....sadly I don't think I'm going to get any saddle time in this week

Jaded, Glad you got your van back together. Don't ya love the way they change and retrofit stuff all the time. I had to reseal the intake on my 1999 Jimmy last year. Pulled all the crap off the thing just to get to the actual manifold and used the new style gaskets. The old ones were plastic with the silicone insert but the new style was a billet aluminum with a huge silicone insert! They knew they had a problem but if I bought the Fel-Pro gaskets from Napa or Advantage auto I got the old style! Had to go with the GM new style gaskets to fix the problem. A nice GM secret to keep the good ones for themselves. Now I had everything removed and the waterpump was wide open. No antifreeze and all I needed to do was take 4 bolts out to remove it. I was conservative and decided to get a few more miles out of the old one cause it wasn't leaking... Yet... Now with a sealed intake and good preasure in the system again the darn thing started to leak a week after putting the Jimmy back on the road! Boy do I enjoy doing the job twice... Had to buy a special tool just to get the fan off the shaft. No studs on that one... Just a threaded shaft.
So I sure understand about the retrofit nonsence.

Evening All, some storms are finally blowing through the area giving us some much needed rain. More are on the way later tonight. They had golf ball size hail to the East of here toward Albany. I took a nice ride with my son through the Adirondacks on Father's day, him on his sporty and me on the heritage.

Rendezvous this weekend and I can't wait!!!!!! We are already packing stuff. We're out of here 7 Am Friday morning. Anyone in the upstate area that want's to go to the best biker party in the Northeast you should try the Vous. Nakedness, bands, beer, bikes and great people..what more could you want? Later all...

Long day a 10 hour one... We're supposed to get some T-storms rolling through here tonight and through the morning. I am gonna get up really early and get the laundry done first thing. I want to make Corey's tomorrow night for bike night. I am not sure which day this weekend Saturday or Sunday but one of them is going to be saddle time. I'll have to see which day is gonna be the niecest...

Hear ya on Jimmy NYWings. It seems that they are always in need of repair in one way or another. My grand pappy used to say if it's got tits or tires it will give ya nothing but head aches. Oh shit did I say that out loud...

Hazeny have a good time at Rendezvous this weekend. You seem to use the word nakedness as though it were a bad think. Why some of my best friends get naked...

Webbo sorry to hear about the weather. Winter does suck and not in the good way...

SirGary the very first thing I did when I walked in the house was walk over to the AC unit and hit the max air button. It will stay on max cold until my nipples are hard enough to cut diamonds and only then will I switch it to regular AC... You never said if you found a place to overhaul your carbs...

Haven't heard from Snake1500. Must be busy doin the farm thing. We miss ya buddy.

Good morning, girls and boys...

Wowzer's it's humid this morning... We have a light drizzle going on right now. There isn't any air circulation what so ever. I still need to do laundry today.

Well Webbo it can't be a kids story cause here state side, legally they need to be at least be 18 yo before we lick'm and stick'm... ... lol

Hazeny I actual have a patch on the back of my leather vest waist level that say's "Ride Naked". So support the ride naked movement. Just let that bad boy swing in the breeze...

Well going to start the day. I hope this clears out latter so they have bike night at Corey's. It has to cool off a lot to keep this good ol'e boy happy. Want to wish one and all a super great hump day. Catcha ya all later...

...The storms last night gave us an inch of rain...(according to the fifty cent rain gauge I bought at a yard sale)...I have the work van loaded and ready to construct some steps to a deck for a friend...sipping coffee and waiting on the drizzle to stop...humid...wet...the sounds of rain drops falling on the leaves of the forest in which I reside overpowering all other sound...

..Jaded, I was all ready to drag my Wing to the shop you recommended when a teenage boy from up the road strolled into my yard looking for a dog that got out. I happen to be trying in vain to coaxs out one more crank from the battery to see if I might listen it my bike sing for me one more time before it went to the bike doctor...no luck...
The young man told me about this new place that was very local where they had an old timer (I later found out he was younger than me..darn it)..and he was suppose to be real good with the older bikes. I went up the next day with my wing standing like a relic on a pedistal being drag with an equally old van in front of it....

The bikers, shopping for another piece of leather to wear, smiled at my bike...don't know if it was old memories or they knew something I didn't...after meeting the mechanic, I felt confident that it will be taken care of...one thing though, the service guy, when taking the info on my bike, commented that my bike was older than him...I though without saying, "so are my socks ya young'un"

...it is a terrible thing to own a Wing...they do tend to outlast thier owners...
