i wish i could be normal and get books from the library, but i ruin my books. i love them and hug them and call them george. well, any way, i them so hard that they aren't fit for the general public when im done with them.
watch out carl hiaasen, i aim to read every last one of your books.

Try www.abebooks.com for older and out-of-print books.

Sometimes the prices are very low even if the one I found for Shanglan was amended hurriedly...

Love ABE, love Powells, love my two friends in the book biz...love used book stores, love book clubs, love Borders and Amazon and...I have to clean up this library. Holy moly.

Next weekend I will be within 50 miles of Hay on Wye, the Book Town.

I will attempt to resist the temptation. On my last visit I nearly broke the car's suspension with the weight of my purchases and I am still trying to reduce my library to a manageable size. 7,000 and shrinking, I think.

On my trip to England 3 years ago, I "discovered" the British Museum's bookshop. So many books on costumes, jewelry, weaponry, cats! We spent more money than I'm willing to say here and then had to lug them all back to the B&B we were in via the Underground and some long walking to Notting Hill Gate. Of course, this doesn't include other books I was picking up and reading (all those plane and train rides, don'tcha know).

When we were finally in Hungerford, we decided we'd ship them back, and my husband the physical fitness guy suggested we save the cab fair from the resort hotel and walk the 2 miles in with the books. After I dragged my sorry ass into the little grocery where the post office was and plopped my sweaty self down on the cool, cool floor, he went in search of boxes and tape. The lady behind the window found us very entertaining as we packaged up our purchases, filled out the paperwork, and paid the exorbitant amount required to ship 70lbs of books to Florida. We then got lunch and started our walk back...passing the bookstore in Hungerford, into which we were drawn like leaves circling a drain. We only bought 3 books, tho, one of which was a guide to English Wildflowers so I could identify all the weeds along the road.

Just finished the lastest book in Sara Donati's Wilderness Series. A series not to be missed. Not erotica, but a fascinating look at America circa 1750. It does have a nice romance for those interested in that. Read the books in order. The first one is INTO THE WILDERNESS.

Good! I wanna report!

Just got three -- no, make that four -- new books for my stack. One is the Raymond Chandler omnibus I've been lusting over for about a year, One is Bel and Imps book, and two others are by another Lit Author! Now to actually READ something....

I have that in my pile thanks to this thread, but I don't think it's next in line. Just finished Fall on you Knees. It was a good book, but it should be noted that I hate unhappy books, and there was very little happy in this one. Finished it anyway and was glad, but also very very sad.
I think I'm either going to finish Bloodsucking Fiends or start Paradise by Toni Morrison.

Hehhehheh, or they knew there was more story when they ended the last book.

Devils. Just devils.

Read: No money for Vendela by Maria Lang.
Reading (or actually re-reading): Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett.
Will Read: HP book number 7 - disappointed as I was by book 6, I GOTTA find out what happends!

I recommend any of Colleen McCullough's works. Any of Gore Vidal's, especially his Julian. Any of Harry Turtledove's. And First Citizen by Thomas T. Thomas (a shockingly good futuristic tale of an American Caesar).
