I have no idea if there are any plans for a SoCal meeting..but if there were..I would try and make the journey down..it would be fun. We do have a mini SF meeting up here once a month..they are very small gatherings..and, so far, only one lady..but it's nice to sit and chat over a beer or 5.

I don't need condolences. I'm very happy to be back in Cali after 13 years, but I totally enjoyed my stay in Kansas.

It is really a nice place to live - if you like people driving at 35 on the streets and 65 on the 2 lane freeways. Oh, they also disconnect the horns in Kansas cars. Seriously, I lived there for 3 years before I heard my first horn honk and believed that they must have disconnected them. I come back here and heard one in my first 3 minutes. LOL. It's hard to explain what it is like to enjoy peace and quiet.

Also, I bought a 2700 sq ft brand new house on a quarter acre of land in TOWN for $100,000. Can't do that in LA, not even a 100 miles from here.

I'm not pumping up Kansas, but there are many good points about it. I liked living there a lot. And where we lived on the Missouri border, there were plenty of hills. It's flat west of Topeka, but we lived in the Missouri River valley network.

And trust me, you can't beat Kansas for weather. I spent many an evening on my porch watching the most fabulous storms brew up to the west and then just come pouring down rain with lightning and thunder that rattles your teeth. The wind whips everything around. Oh, sure the news guys told us to go into the basement, but I never did. I love staring a storm in the face. LOL. Can't beat the weather, for sure.

Now, snow and ice are no fun, but we actually had very little of that. Only one bad winter. Most years, I had cookouts in January wearing short sleeve shirt and shorts. It may surprise you, but Kansas City is on the same parallel as San Francisco.

Okay, so much for my trip down memory lane. I just wanted you to know condolences are not required. If I could have gotten work after TWA let me go (serves them right, they went bankrupt a couple months later), I'd still be in Kansas today.

The worst thing for me is that my kids and soon to be grandbaby still live there and I miss them terribly much.

Good news is that we're going back for Christmas.
