Hello DragonTamer,

I just received an e-mail from a friend who has asked me to review his new book on the role of women in Ancient China... and I quote:
-----------------------------------------------------------
The title is taken from a poem written in 1688 to her daughter by Chai Jingyi, one of the famous members of The Banana Garden Poetry Club.

Be a hidden dragon, do not act,

The hen who crows brings shame upon herself.

Take heed, my daughter of the inner chambers,

Be gentle and docile, and you’ll have no worries.

"Hidden Dragon, do not act," is also a quotation, and comes from the qian hexagram of the Book of Changes." The first of six stages of transformation in the natural or human world, the hidden dragon will in due time leap up, fly, and exceed limits. Women in China did, in due time, leap up and many were transformed from unwanted girls into powerful matriarchs.
--------------------------------------------------

Hello all,
Haven't been online for a few days. Wish everybody is doing well now.

Hi buggawugga, nice to see you back. How is life there. Hope you are not affected by SARS too much in ONT there. Love your contribution on the amateur pics.... did you take that yourself ?
Mia, love your latest AV... it is great :)

How's everybody doing this week? Spring is just around the corner... enjoy !!

Tis a fabulous morning here in London!

Hope everyone had a cool weekend, I've got a clogged up throat recently for no reason, so I'm gonna knock down some chinese medicine to sort it out.

Morning everyone! It's a wet and gray day here in Toronto!

Welcome The_Dragon_Tamer! :rose:

Hey MercyMia I just noticed we share the same birthday! :rose:

Hello Asian Threadies,

It's always nice to see our home near the top of the heap. :)
AFM, for a clogged up throat, also try a warm water with salt gargle before bedtime. Helps clear out all that gunk and lets you sleep better. And sleep is essential for your immune system. Take care, my boy, eh, I mean, my man.

Hi bugga, princess!

erc and Gusty Pie, thanks for your comments on my AV. I've had a lot of fun with IrfanView, freeware that's really easy to use. WeirdHarold posted the link on the thread that helps technically inept people (like yours truly) downsize their pictures for AVs. If anyone needs the IrfanView link, let me know and I'll trace back and tap you into that thread.

Sexy Wench, there's gonna be big happenings on August 1st then, right? :)

 to everyone

Hey everyone--

Washington, DC is having its annual 5 days of actual spring weather before the hot, humid summer starts--get here while the gettings good!

Glad to see so many posters checking in--BuggaWugga, like your AV too, and MM seems to be going off the deep end with the photographic experimentation;) --do you have an art gallery show opening soon or something? And hey there to AFM, erc, and everyone else--sounds like there's decent weather across the globe today!

Bought a fresh bottle yesterday. It's better than any cough syrup, and tastes damn nice too. Someone was telling me that you can mix it with some water and leave it in the fridge, and it will make a really nice drink too....

hi erc, glad you liked, yes i take them myself

mm: hello beautiful : )

as for pi pa gao, would that equate to pay pah low in cantonese? i love that stuff, it is tasty... compared to most cough syrups anyways, i wouldn't want it for dessert or anything! lol

hope you're feeling better AFM : )

no sars over here yet, i was hoping to get hit JUST before exams so i would be exempt but no such luck... lol
(yes i am kidding!)

Yeah... I love the taste tooo and love swigging it from the bottle..

and this SARS stuff is getting out of hand here....... Beijing is closing all the schools for 2 weeks and has cancelled our May Day holidays:( the streets are starting to look like Hong Kong when you were there... masks everywhere... rumours flying around by SMS on the mobiles and stuff...

and bug... I know that pernicious thought all to well... what a lovely excuse it would be..... but........Not!!

hello dragon tamer : )
lucky you, i've got another 5 years i'm thinking!

hong: ah yes, the secret desires of slackers everywhere! do you think it would make me too sick to take pics? J/K!! i guess i shouldn't joke but seriously i have not spoken to anybody here who even KNOWS anybody who got sars so i can't say i'm too affected...

gah! choy choy choy! don't even joke about this, sweetness!

Hi RH, AFM, Gusty, Hong, erc, buggawugga, Sexy Wench, and Dragon Tamer,

I don't know anyone who knows anyone who has had Sars either, but the illness is being taken very seriously here, thank goodness. The latest story is that the wholesale vegetable market in Pasir Panjang had to shut down for 10 days because at least 4 cases of Sars have been traced there. There were NO vegetables in the grocery store this afternoon. How vegetarians are coping, and how vegetarian restaurants are getting by, I have NO idea.

On another thread, someone mentioned that more people die of the flu than of Sars. Their point was that the Sars scare is overblown, hyped up by the media. That may be partially true...but of more immediate concern is the fact that Sars is an unknown in too many ways.

Viruses are so intelligent, adaptable, and resilient. :-(

Mia

aww i know i shouldn't joke about it... i just count my blessings me and my loved ones are not sick and aren't in too much danger of getting it and every one IS being careful...

but just you wait, they will find that pei pah loa has secret disease curing properties yet and chinese herbal medicine will have its day!

I agree with what that thread said MM... the panic factor is more damaging that SARS itself.....

and I am sure that Chinese herbal medicine will prevail!!! heck if you have to drink down some of those yucky herbalist potions, you deserve the cure...

oooooooh i think God is punishing me for making fun at his latest plague...

poor buggawugga is not feeling so well today. nothing serious i don't think but enough to make me curl up in bed with a tasty bowl of juk (congee) that i made for myself and my books...

*learns lesson*:(
