Breakdancing huh? It is not an easy dance. So can you do the head on the ground spinning?? hehehehehe :D
I agree that dancing is one of the best excercise. What kind of dancing you are interested to learn? Ballroom dancing? Ballet? Disco? Country Dancing? :p
I enjoy dancing myself. My favorite is still the swing or the jazz dancing. Unfortunately I have problems to find a partner to join me. So I usually ended up dancing in my home with the music. *hint Right bugga? *:D

I usually think that the most difficult part of learning chinese for foreigners are to recognize the characters. With English, you can still look for dictionary according to spelling. With Chinese, I still have trouble to look for the word that I never seen before in dictionary. I have been told that the five tones of mandarin are difficult for someone who only knows the dialect too. Especially that a single pronunciation can mean tens of different words.

Hmm...all dancing is hard really, but breakdancing is especially physical because it demands a hell of a lot of upper body strength and flexibility. Can't do the spinning on head thing, but I can do a handstand, and something called a freeze, which is shown in the picture ;)

(to see it, cut and paste this, because the site doesn't allow direct linking for some reason....)

I pretty much dance an r'n'b hip hop style like in music videos....was supposed to do a couple of shows before but things didn't work out.

Mandarin has five tones? I thought it was only four?
I know cantonese has 8, and I have yet to meet a person who's said exactly the same thing back to me when I've tried to teach them before. Although my african friend, who speaks fluent arabic came really close......according to him the style of intonation with arabic and chinese are quite similar.

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I can pretty much prounounce any language with no problems, including the accents. I can speak French and Spanish without sounding like an evil foreigner, plus I can fake loads of other english accents quite easily. I wonder if this is because of my mixed language upbringing? *ponders*

WOO HOO ERC!!!!!

Gusty said it exactly right--you are a teddy bear! Cuddly, cute and very huggable. Are you competing with me for hug magnet position on this thread? :D Okay, okay, I hand over the crown to you. *Bow*

Oh and the cat is cute, too.

Thanks for posting your pictures...

What white undies AV, Gusty?

I took Mandarin and Cantonese lessons for a while, crash course before we moved to Hong Kong back in the 90s. My tongue would feel BRUISED at the end of the lessons because I was trying to twist it around to produce the sounds...and I hadn't even gotten to the TONES. :(

AFM, I think your ability to act out accents is a particular gift of yours and not necessarily related to your multi-linguality. Cuz I haven't observed that talent in other multi-lingual people.

Since erc is now the hug magnet, I am hereby designating myself as the kiss magnet. (sigh)

By the way, I'm going to be gone from Lit for a week cuz we're going to Manila. I'll get to see my parents and other rellies and also eat all the food I miss so much. I'll take some pictures and post them on Gusty's Asian Thread when I get back, okay?

In the meantime, could someone please take over the green tea and caramel popcorn stand?

Kisses to my threadies,
Mia

Heh heh heh...I'm making hay while the sun shines. During the school year, I have to stay put and be the sun that everyone else rotates around :)

And didn't you just come back from a month's trip to Malaysia and Hong Kong?

:muah:

Hey bugga, I need to work up my strength before I go all-night dancing with you and the rest of the threadies :D But give me a couple of months and we'll put everyone else to shame!
