Ooc

Magic question. Most dms I have encountered have simply said +3 axe of dragons bane, so I am getting to this question late. When we find magic items do we have to cast detect magic fallowed by the identify spell or will we simply know?

The bow prompted my question, but I assume it would be masterwork if it was going to be magic.

Thor finds nothing unusual in the bushes, although he can see the worg's trail which seems to come from the North although somewhat haphhazzardly so.

OOC: Good question, cats. You're right that the bow is not magical (because it would have to be masterwork). Generally, in order to determine whether something is magical, you will have to use detect magic unless there's something obviously magical about it (e.g: a wand, or a sword which is glowing, etc.) You do need to cast Identfy to figure out what it is (House rule: Identify only takes a few minutes and has no costly material component). This will only reveal one property of the item. If it has multiple properties (and I will let you know if there are more than one, not counting curses, of course), you'll have to get an 'Analyze Dweomer' spell to reveal everything.

Don't worry too much about this, as it's likely to be quite a while before the characters find any magic items with more than one effect and when they do, they'll probably be near enough to the city and rich enough that 'Analyze Dweomer' won't be too hard to come by.

This is just for found treasure. Stuff you buy in town comes fully identified and analyzed.

Thor lowers the crossbow and steps towards the beasts path listening and looking down it. Turning back to the others he nods towards it and re-straps the now loaded crossbow back onto himself.

"So shall we see where this beast came from or continue onward?"

(If everyone agrees to see where it came from then Thors going to draw his dagger and be lead. By the way I only got 15 HP cats...well now I got 8 :p)

"I don't think it's in our best interest to pursue any more encounters with wild worgs, since that last one nearly bit you in half," Leanna asserts rather dryly.

"I think it'd be best to hurry on before the beast's owner shows up to ask why his pet is dead. Besides, we have a delivery to complete."

OOC: One in favor of tracking the worg, one in favor of heading to town. I'll wait to see what you folks decide in the next 24 hrs or so...

(I actually want to continue on...just saying that if everyone wants to follow the trail thats what thor will do. So two votes for just carrying on. :p )

OOC: I appologize for not posting in some time, life has been keeping me away, and will be keeping me away for some time, but I will continue to post as much as I can. DoS, if you are willing to keep me in the thread, just moving me when need be, in combat?

IC: Ezmi let the wolf fly by her hoping it would simply flee, cursing when she saw that it had its eyes and fangs set on the dwarf. She was about to come to the attack, but the beast was dead before Thor's axe before she had a chance to strike. She proceeds to tend to Thor once things have settled, ignoring his boasts of having worse. (Heal Roll 15+1 Total:16)

Ezmi shook her head when Leanna suggested her to open the box. "I haven't the sort of knowledge it would take to do that..."

"Given time, I am sure I could fire that bow like an expert, but at the time being, I fear I would be more likely to hit one of you than a enemy, Drec. Keep it handy though, its a fine looking bow, I am sure it will be useful soon enough."

"I would prefer to deliver the goods to the old lady before taking on anything more, Thor... However, lets take the box with the bow, and the worgs collar." Ezmi says as she goes the the worg wolf's corpse and undoes the collar herself.

"I am sure the owner will be keen to know what befell his pet."

OOC: Again, DoS, take control of Ezmi when you need to please? I appologize, but I find myself in a situation that limits my internet time. :(

OOC: That's fine, Raven; thanks for letting me know. I'm only perturbed when someone drops completely off the map unannounced. I'll post again with narration later tonight or early tomorrow morning. I've got some minor internet limitations at the moment myself.

Drec:

IC: I take the bow and placed it on my back. I suppose I have the most training for it, with the exception of thor and he clearly prefers an alternate weapon. Would be nice if I had arrows though.

"I say we head back to town. After all I want to get by the spiders before they repopulate."

The rest of the day is uneventful, as is the next day. Under Ezmi's care, Thor recovers 4hp over two nights. The party reaches the plains again late in the second day. On the third morning, Ezmi hears a sound in the distance. It seems to be approaching rapidly. A cloud of dust is visible and coming towards the group at a considerable pace. Dark shapes seem to be leading it and also plunging around inside.

" I agree comrade!"

Thor quiclkly hurries to the side of the road. He searches for a place to hide and If he finds one he plans to arm himself with his loaded crossbow.

Drec and Thor scurry out of the way. The girls follow suit (since Raven asked me to post for him and I hope Elayne won't mind). Thor sees a patch of fairly dense grass growing from a hollow spot beside the road.

OOC: If you want him to hide, make a hide check.

Thor spots the patch of thick grass and dives for it. Hopeing to be hidden enough to surprise the possable attackers he hugs his crossbow. Landing softly in the grass he drops to the ground and steadys his aim against the ground. Pointing the crossbow off down the path he waits patiently for them to approach.

Drec:

OOC: Hide 10

IC: I take a dive hoping to evade notice. I pull out my longsword and hope being prone won't trouble me.

(No, I don't mind either. :) )

Leanna decides to follow suit, moving off the beaten path and dropping down to hide with her current comrades. (I don't have any hiding skill, so, bleh. Whatever roll you think works! :) )

"Riders, do you think? Or something else?" Leanna asks, peering towards the cloud.

(Spot check = 13)

OOC: Sorry, I should have clarified. The cloud of dust isn't approaching along the road, but over the prairie, heading from South towards the North.

IC: Thor manages to hide and Drec makes some efforts in that direction too. As the cloud approaches, you can see that it appears to be a herd of wild horses as none of them seem to have any riders. There are about 15 horses in the group and they're approaching quickly.

Ezmirylda

"Horses! Horses would be of great benefit!" Ezmi exclaims as she sees the riderless pack racing their way. "Quick, if anyone has some rope!" Ezmi calls to her companions. (If they don't, she'll use the cord from her tent, or the canvas of it, itself, if need be, as a make shift rope.)

She draws near to where the wild horses will shortly be racing by, using whatever she ends up having for rope as a laso. Calling out commandingly, but compassionately. "Assay! Assay!"

If she can slow any of them, she will try to laso one and catch a ride, using it to bring at least one for each of her companions back to the party to ride.

OOC: On the off chance that I am actually successful, and garner the party this free ride, I realize that they are most likely running from something... BAD, so will make the utmost haste to get all on horse back and fly from this place, to town!!!

OOC: Sidenote here: Handle animal is for teaching domesticated animals or for taming a wild animal over the long term. Wild animals will usually not respond to it. However:

IC: In response to Ezmi's shouting, most of the herd splits and flows to either side of the party, trying to avoid trouble. One mare, however is a little slow to react and Ezmi manages to land a rope on her (I rolled an attack for Ezmi). Dodging the mare's frantic kick, she leaps on, landing awkwarly on the animal's back and then gradually righting herself. The mare bucks and attempts to throw her, but Ezmi is managing to stay on...

OOC: Do any of the rest of the party try anything with the horses? 24hrs to say so...

Leanna isn't a particularly skilled rider. Moreover, those horses she has ridden are of the tamed variety, rather than wild horses.

In the confusion, Leanna is content to dodge the pack and avoid the rushing horses, watching as Ezmi attempts to seize one.

Drec

IC: I quickly find and hand ezmi a rope. Then I do my best not to be trampled.

OCC: horses are good eating.

Fortunately, the herd doesn't seem to be intent on trampling anyone. The rest of the herd runs away, at a greater pace tan they approached as Ezmi struggles to keep her seat on the mare, which appears to be tiring somewhat although still intent on throwing her off. Nonetheless, she manages to cling to the horse and eventually wear it out to the point where it just stands still, sides slightly heaving as it recovers from its exertions.

Ezmi slides off, still holding the ropes, and comes around to look up into the mares eyes. "There's a fine lady. Are you hungry?" She asks as she offers a ration or what berries she has left from the other day. "Thirsty?" Offering water as well, while attempting to sooth her with a gentle hand while letting her rest, and waiting for the others to make it up to where she is waiting.

(Post 500 WOOOOOOOO)

Thor gets up slowly as Ezmi reveals the dust to be a pack of horses. He sighs and shakes his head as the thundering pack gets closer.

Horses! Horses would be of great benefit!" Ezmi exclaims as she sees the riderless pack racing their way. "Quick, if anyone has some rope!" Ezmi calls to her companions.

She draws near to where the wild horses will shortly be racing by, using whatever she ends up having for rope as a laso. Calling out commandingly, but compassionately. "Assay! Assay!"

Thor shakes his head again and grumbles...

"You wont catch me rideing one of those foul beasts. I'd rather cut off my own two feet with a rusty scrap of iron."

He spits at the idea and looks on in disgust as Ezmi ropes a horse. The rest of the herd thunders past splitting around the party as Ezmi continues to stuggle with the beast. Finally tireing out the beast gives in and Ezmi jumps off and leads it back to the group.

"Now what?I guess we can send someone ahead as a scout... But its quite useless to us otherwise. Though it can be worth a few coins to someone in town. But its your creature to do with so you take care of the beast."

He looks at the creature with glareing eyes before finally spending the time to re-strap his crossbow.

"Guess I wont be needed this...unless that beast acts up."
