Disney Checkmates DeSantis

DeSantis has cost the state jobs and money.
Meatball economics. Highly compensated professionals who wouldn't vote for DeSantis, but would spend their discretionary income buying property and automobiles, and employ DeSantis voters to mow their lawns and unplug their toilets.

It's a net loss for Florida.

Edit: Here's a paywall-free synopsis from the NY Times: East central Florida was building up a huge infrastructure to support the Disney move, they are seriously fucked. Disney employees in California elated they will not have to relocate to Desantistein.

That’s hilarious. You still couldn’t provide the link you said you had.

Just a minor fix.

Here is my #398 post.
“I shared a link to an article in the Guardian because it is a trusted source among the left. Happy to share articles from the WSJ if that would help.”

See post #401 for a link to the WSJ report which matches the reporting from the 3 other sources. Disney is facing big challenges and is laying off thousands.

Yes, we’re still waiting.

Read far enough into the story and you'll find the real reasons Disney pulled the plug: 1) It was a Chapek brainchild which Iger hated; 2) affected employees didn't want to move; 3) Disney is losing money and the first two reasons make this an easy cost-cutting move.
Irrelevant to the opportunity to slap Desantis in their fight. The poke in the nose and the loss of jobs and revenue will be all the average Florida voter will see.

Employees don’t want to move to a state where the government is against them and business.

Exactly.

The RWCJ “members” on this board do waaaaaaay weaker performative flexes daily / hourly to try and influence opinions. One would think they would know how the game is played. I also honestly believe Disney isn’t close to being done with their investment reduction influence operation.

👉 RWCJ “members” 🤣

they're not... there's $17Billion worth of plans at stake, due to be invested over 10 years

Yep.

Tragically, for the decent, intelligent Floridians who oppose fascist, investment deterring, climate change denying “republicans”, they have to suffer right along with those who are increasingly exacerbating the state’s inhospitable environment, and leading to Florida being prematurely uninhabitable in more ways than one.

SAD!!!

perhaps the loss of investment, or feared loss, will drive the voters. desantis is burning bridges, his eye on the Whitehouse and old testament beneath his feet.

I’m seriously concerned about Florida. - Between the heat and the ever increasing salt in the drinking water, I wonder if some of the citizens are existing in a perpetual fever dream.

That ^ would explain the crazy voting habits of some Floridians.

*nods*

No.I believe instruction on sexual orientation, gender identity, and subjects that are not age appropriate don’t belong in K-12 schools, I believe in parental rights to be notified of procedures that affect a child’s mental or physical health, and I believe the Disney Corporation is facing major headwinds in its business that have led to thousands of layoffs and major curtailment of capital and operating expenses.
And you're so wrong it hurts our country.

after announcing they're dropping a $1B plan for florida (1 so far of 17B), Disney's in talks with Cali about a 30-year investment in development there. As things stand, though, Anaheim hasn't the flexibility Disney needs to move forward without changes;
Their ‘traditional’ district/zone approach does not allow for the diverse, integrated experiences theme park visitors now seek, severely limiting Disney’s ability to continue investing in Anaheim.”

While DisneylandForward was first introduced in 2021, this week Potrock and other Disney executives revealed new details about the project, including a Disney-sponsored economic study from Cal State Fullerton estimating that, for every $1 billion Disney invests to update and renovate the resort, over 4,000 jobs and $1.1 billion in economic output would be generated during the 4-year construction period. Thereafter, according to the Los Angeles Times, that investment will generate $253 million annually in economic output, $15 million in tax revenue and 2,292 jobs.

“Great news for the city of Anaheim,” tweeted Newsom along with a media report about the economic forecast.

desantis attempts to get judge booted off case since he's said this in the '22 prelim injunction:

"And then Disney is going to lose its status because — arguably because they made a statement that ... ran afoul of state policy of the controlling party. At what point do you stack so many examples where punitive actions are taken if you don’t do what you are told that suddenly it no longer becomes conjectural and you pass that threshold so you can establish standing? It’s no longer fanciful or conjectural,"
