DVDs seen recently

Finding Neverland was better than I expected.

Sahara was a mess but my husband liked it.

Warrior wasn't what I expected and I didn't like it.

Memoirs of a Geisha was far better than I expected.

The Meaning of Life was way full of sex and watching it with my 15 year old didn't make me very comfortable.

There have been other DVD's, its summer after all but I can't recall the titles of them all.

Let's see....

Most recent:

Doom Better than expected although the Rock is still a little stiff in his delivery of lines. The other actors were alright.

Stealth Way cool effects in this movie. Jamie Foxx get killed toward the end but he was the comic sidekick throughout the film. Jessica Biel is hot in this picture. This is the first time I have seen Josh Lucas but he did pretty good a little over the top in some scenes.

Van Helsing I know it's been out for quite a while. It was ok but not great.

The Italian Job Doesn't really compare to the original but was a fair remake. Charlize is outstanding along with Mark Walberg. Seth Green played the computer nerd really well.

Jarhead It took place during the '91 Iraq war. It wasn't so much about the war as a character study about a single Marine (Jake Gyllenhaal). It take you from boot camp up to and including his deployment in Iraq.

The World's Fastest Indian
it's a little slow in the beginning, but it's interesting and Anthony Hopkins gives a fantastic performance (as always). And I love movies based on a "true story." :)

Constantine was not bad but I didn't like how they portrayed Gabriel.

Freedomland
It sucked. It was horrible, really. Horrendous. I wanted to shoot Julianna Moore in the first 20 minutes and my distaste for her over (or just plain out poor) acting just grew and grew and grew until the end where I sighed and very loudly (very very very loudly) yelled "what the fuck!?" and that was that.

It doesn't even get 1 dancing banana out of 5.

Watched "Skeleton Key" again with Ulaven, who hadn't seen it yet.

Love this movie. Very underrated.

Spooky and sharp.

Nochnoi Dozor (Night Watch) A Russian fantasy/horror movie.

I haven't made my mind up about this one yet. It certainly had its good points. And bad.

Plot seemed a little 'loose' at times. There weren't exactly holes in the plot, but connections seemed vague at moments. And you could tell it didn't have a tremendous budget.

However, it had a lot of redeeming features.

The dichotomy between the Forces of Light (The Night Watch) and Forces of Dark (The Day Watch) was amusing. The Night Watch kept themselves hidden by masquerading as a public utility, City Light. Their vehicles and uniforms were kind of old and tatty, as you would expect a Moscow utility to be. The Day Watch were done up like Russian gangsters. Drove Mercedes and Beamers, wore brand name American clothing. I found this quite funny.

The use of a videogame as an oracular device was a giggle as well.

I liked the dichotomy of the characters. The central character was a very torn person. The leader of the Night Watch had a hard edge that kept him from being too sympathetic. The leader of the Day Watch was, on the other hand, surprisingly sympathetic.

And some of the women, :catroar:. Gorgeous.

It also was a good look at modern Moscow, something few Westerners see. It's an interesting city. Not sure I would want to live there though.

I won't give a recommendation one way or the other. I will see it again to help make up my mind.

Went downtown, paid my rent.

Then wandered around looking for something to treat myself. Ended up in a big chain music/video store.

So I start searching through the DVDs. "That was fun, but not today. Not a chance. And Angela collection, cool." Then I wonder, "Do they have that one."

Yes they do! :nana:

So now I own a copy of The Five Deadly Venoms!. One of the great Kung Fu movies. More :nana:

Life is good sometimes.

The gosling persuaded me to watch 'Sixth Sense' the other night. Late. In bed, in the dark.

*shudder*.

My god, Haley Joel Osment, who played Cole...........no matter what part he plays, he just gives me the creeps.

Bruce Willis, surprisingly, played the part sensitively. I was impressed.

All in all, I enjoyed it, and I'm someone who avoids creepy films, horror films, and anything like that. I like to be entertained, not scared shitless.

The ending surprised me, but on reflection, it was perfect.

I read Ya Ya because my favorite cousin said it was the best thing ever. I got very tired of all the family dysfunctional crap, and whining. Hey, that's my fucking childhood! I don't need that! I want to escape it ya know?

LOL!

So I have avoided the film.

'The Constant Gardner' - it was so good and so sad. I hate it when films make me not just cry but weep - I always thank god that I'm in the privacy of my own home and not at the cinema!

My partner was crying at the end of 'Cars' the other night - I refused to watch it as it had been downloaded illegally. I feel so virtuous!

I've been thinking about renting "Gardner"... thanks... off to add it to my Netflix queue... :)

Failure To Launch with Matthew M. and Sara Jessica...it was pretty fucking funny. There's a bonus shot of Terry Bradshaw's naked ass. Terry, who plays the dad looks damn good, lol. The ensemble cast, especially Zoey Deschanel as Sara's roommate is just fantastic. It was the funniest thing I'd seen in a while.

Ultraviolet, a futuristic vampire flick with Mila Jovoavich(sp?), was okay, neat cg effects, but it could've been more story-wise. The dialog was crap and there was a lot more tell than show with a boring narration at the beginning.

Oh, I know! It was thought-provoking, touching and more than a little scary since it makes you wonder how much is truth and how much is fiction.

I heard that the original BBC miniseries was better.

The sort of movie I might pick up if it was free at my library but then again maybe not.

I rarely enjoy BBC anything though. It's just not my cup of tea.
