DVDs seen recently

Just watched Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.

Twas fun. And very dark at the end. Much darker than anything else so far.

As always good FX.

And a nice little back plot about puberty and all the fun that causes.

Recommended.

I just watched 'two by Johnny"- Depp, of course- of two very, VERY different styles and moods;
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
and
The Corpse Bride

F&LiLV was simply amazing. Terry Gilliam really pulled it off, translating the chaos of the book into brilliant visuals.Johnny looked like himself for about three split seconds- I MET Hunter Thompson back in the day, and Johnny WAS Hunter. except a little short... And Benicio Torres was delicious. I told the kids;
"You'll never have to take acid, because this film is exactly what it's like." They said; "eeww..."
Gilliam very kindly left in some of Hunter''s monologues about the death of the hippie-idealist movement, and Johnny's reading of them choked me up.

TCB has been reviewed here, I think? It's adorable and stunning, and Danny Elfman's music is wonderful, and so on and so forth. Plus there must be three hours of extras- and if you are interested in technicals, they are fascinating to watch. One lovely feature has the actors doing their dialogue in a little window, mirrored by the puppet as it was filmed.

I can't believe this thread died!

Seen recently:
History of Violence. It was a well done movie, and it was cool to see such great sex scenes in a mainstreamish movie (I mean, a 69!), but it wasn't what I expected at all and I think I was maybe a little disappointed because the plot wasn't all that surprising. I kept hoping his secret would be something less obvious.
Brokeback Mountain. A great movie, particularly in the way the men reacted to each other.
Proof. This was an interesting movie, but I don't think it was a great one. I enjoyed it, tho.

Thanks SJ. Been meaning to resurrect this myself. But I'm such a lazy bastard. ;)

I caught Howl's Moving Castle on the weekend.

Like all of Miyazaki's work, it's gorgeous. The animation is just wonderful. And he does such a good job with world creation. An interesting mix of Victorian technology and culture mixed with magic.

A sweet story, amusing characters and great visuals made for a very entertaining time.

Skeleton Key was better than I expected and didn't give me nightmares. The southern accents were dead wrong though.

Fury :rose:

Interpreter was also surprisingly good. It had some lovely thoughts about revenge and justice in it. LOL!

My son turned to me while we were watching it and said, "This is deep."

Narnia.

Ah, the scenery! And I was impressed by all the 3D-animations, and how they were made.

Recently watched Oldboy again. It's a South Korean action/mystery/thriller (which was based on a Japanese manga comic of the same name) with tons of plot twists, and I think it won the Grand Prix at Cannes 2003. Interesting movie.

I liked OldBoy. It was twisted. If you like that, you should check out Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance.

Good night and Good Luck.

Everyone needs to see this movie and really listen to the things Murrow had to say. Amazing stuff.

Thanks. I'll check it out if I can find it. ;)

Yesterday I saw The Human Stain. Very interesting plot, and the twist was surprising. Everyone was fantastic in their roles.

Watched Gentlemen Prefer Blondes for the umpteenth time with Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe - gorgeous! Great songs, dancing, costumes, witty dialogue and big fun.

The French are glad to die for love
They delight in fighting duels
But I prefer a man who lives
And gives expensive jewels...

OKay, just watched Memoirs. Good movie. (I suppose now I'll have to read the book.)

Cat

Watching Phantom of the Opera right now. I've never seen it on stage, so I'm really enjoying it.

MissJett introduced me to City Of Lost Children.

It was a very interesting movie. Rather fun, but also dark and twisted.

I have not had time for movies lately :(. Too busy working but I did just watch a kids movie... The Chronicles Of Narnia. It was not too bad..Although it all did not mesh very well and explain a lot. I hope it ends up like the Harry Potters and it does a series just like the books. I also watched Must Love Cats And Dogs... funny... but not sure I like the lead stars Combo.. Diane Lane..and whats his name... I adore him! He seems like good people. AND I saw Grizzly Man the documentary... which I must say was enthralling...although I wanted to slap a few people in it because they said some awful things like he got what he deserved which is ridiculous. But it was a great documentary. Thats all for now... I must start watching newer movies and movies period, lol.
Oh and ooo...it says I am a virgin, lol. Thats not far off ;)

Just watched "Walk the Line". downloaded a couple of his songs too. Johhny Cash was just as hardcore as any of today's rapper, but the country twang hid it. Loved the movie though. Chicken Little is next. So sue me, but I love kids movies.

Last night watched Pride and Prejudice, the new one with Kiera Knightley. I had very low expectations of it because the previews I'd seen looked like they'd slaughtered the book, but actually, they did a decent job of keeping plot and dialogue. Obviously there were some changes, but it was a good movie. Of course, not nearly as good as the book; one of the things that struck me the most about the movie is how incredibly absurd they made Mrs. Bennett. Yes, she was a bit ridiculous in the book, but the movie went beyond that which made for some comedy, but it also didn't feel right to me. Maybe I should read the book again.

Anyway, also watched Rumor Has it with Jennifer Aniston. It was a nothing little movie, not bad but not great. Best part was Shirley MacLaine, without a doubt.

We watched that the other night and it was good! Reese did a GREAT job!

I also had to find the Hurt video which is a brilliant piece art in both video and voice!

However as far as movies go, I enjoyed Ray better.

Last night we watched Shawn of the Dead. It was fucking hilarious! The whole family enjoyed it! We even made popcorn!

Fury :rose:

I bought The Brother's Grim, and one of my favorite movies Ever After a couple of weeks ago. The Brother's Grim was really neat. I don't quite know how to discribe it, just a touch dark, just a touch funny, just a tad romantic, and very cool. :)
