Endless Curiosity

As a new perso here, something I have noticed within myself is the intimidation of the post count.

Not sure I can adequately explain my thoughts, but the higher the post count I personally would be less inclined to engage.

Aw, c'mon on. I refuse to believe you have heard no tales of...tales of...tales of... *insert positive euphemism*

:D

I know that there are some who have alts specifically for hookups.
Great. Glad it works for those who have them. It's understandable in that who the hell wants an entire pack of dogs pissing up their tree without a way to back out of it?

I have hang ups so I can't do the hook ups :D

I really wish I could sometimes. I'm not wired to play successfully that way.. (trust me, I've tried. I'll stick to audio, tyvm)

Just talk. Be yourself. Let people know you're open to a *cough**connection*cough*

It will eventually happen..
Maybe.
I don't know.

If it doesn't happen, might I suggest you log off and get a cat for companionship?

that's not a universal prohibition...
It is with me because I'm totes unapproachable, but take OUJ up there..
Complete perv.
You oughta message him.:p

My post count is getting up there, but I still get intimidated by those with higher counts. The thing is, it's less about the number of posts and more about the content. When I look at personal ads, more often than not the only posts that person has ever made were in their ad. Even on the playground, new folks tend to post in the word games to get their count up. That's fine, of course, but it doesn't reveal much.

By posting here, you are way ahead of the game. :)

I usually suck at games! I'll take that as a win!

What game am I playing?

I will say, apropos of...not much, that Lit is rather like life. You often find someone interesting when not looking.

I'm not helping, am I?

Someone else get in here with good answers. A little something, something we haven't already seen. C'mon. I know you're out there, lurking. Holding tight with miserly glee those longed-for pearls of precious wisdom.

Errrr...

I seem to be in wordy mode today. :p

I've got "miserly Glee" covered...:D

I still can't figure out how to articulate my thoughts on the main topic.

Here's a side question:

The Playground is technically located in the Literotica Personals, yet personal ads don't fly here. If the mods don't immediately move them to the personals, which they usually do, they tend to get snarky comments from the locals or completely ignored. Why can't we have personal ads here? Or maybe a thread on the playground for people to post ads?

Why have "ads" inside the playground if the parent forum is the place for ads?

I've wondered about that, too. I'm guessing personal ads may have fallen under the Playground originally, and only become sub-forms when traffic demanded?

It does seem a little counter intuitive. I rarely go into the personal ads, unless I'm bored.

That was...educational. I was under the impression there was a one oyster, one pearl rule....

So the original question is how to meet people on Lit.
Simple answer. Post. Complete your profile. Get your post count up by posting.
If you really want to be known as a good person, do not post a cock pic as your avatar at 100 posts.
Don't be a douche. Be real, but also protect yourself by not putting yourself out there 100% and becoming a punching bag. Realize that there are real bonafide people behind every screen name and treat them as such.

How's that Ms Night? *bows*

Because the Playground is a subforum for those who do not want to deal with Personals, but want to interact with people without the crassness of the General Board. It was set up as an alternative and it's also why personal ads on here are discouraged. VT.

I guess I do have more time when I stay home from work. ;)

That makes sense. I just don't like the idea of posting an ad for "strangers". Playgrounders are my peeps.

It's better to meet folks before you do more. Always better.

Besides, there's more to knowing someone than just hearing them cum for you. ;)

I'm loving all the advice for new folks, don't stop! I do have a question of my own. The playground seems to be filled mostly with threads geared towards quick response games. The "ABC, 123, have you, would you, do you, could you, can you, who me, yes you, couldn't be, then who?" are fun even if the front page reads like a kinky Dr. Seuss book at times. However, there seems to be few active threads of casual conversation, banter, etc. Where then, if not the playground, can a new person go to interact and and get to know folks. Especially if they aren't looking for anything in particular except to talk and have fun with like minded people.

There's a couple of "talk" threads on there.
The thing is it's difficult to keep them on the 1st page. That's why the game threads are so popular.

The General Board has more assholes.
The BDSM cafe is okay, but again it's hard to keep a talk thread on the first page.

There is always Lit Chat off of the main site's menu, but that one is sketchy as well.

*drops by with the requested pearls* :D

I do play, but just occasionally. My very first time was with the guy who sent me my very first PM. He was articulate and polite and his message was in reference to my very first post, on my very first day on Lit 7 years ago. We were "together" for almost 5 years. So, beginner's luck is one way to do it. ;)

Once, I answered an ad for someone looking for a writing partner. After doing that for a while, things blossomed, and we were very close for a long time.

Almost without exception, others have been people I got to know on threads I posted on. We got to know each other there and in conversational PMs, and eventually talk turned *ahem* more personal.

To me it seems similar to what you do in real life - you may meet someone in a bar where people are looking for sex (cold pm's or personal ads), a random meeting where you immediately click (probably the cold PM), or in a group of friends where you become attracted and proceed to get acquainted (in the threads).

Thanks for the advice all! I guess the Playground is an apt description. Games to be played, friends to be made. I remember being terrified as the new kid at school come recess. Having to try and join a game in progress or a group already formed. Good thing I am braver now than I was then!

Welcome on board. Some nice people here.
Edit: don't be intimidated by high post counts. Anyone who has been here long enough to rack up a high number probably has done so be being a talkative type. That or endless word association games. Either way they're hardly someone to be wary of.

I understand the "need" to post, but when most of the posts consist of "yes/no" questions, there is only so many ways to say "no" as a newbie. Not to mention with an over proportion of responders being male it's difficult to have that friendly flirty banter. And if one is able to magically reply to a female or have a female reply to them - the banter is still usually in the negative.
