Everything Hockey

These Wings are a much improved team over last year. Just fundamental positioning

The Jets have allowed 14 goals in their first three games, tied for the most in the West (also Nashville). This is not going to get the job done. :(

Ok...i really like what I am seeing with Detroit. They are quicker...they are tougher...and they ain't afraid to scrap. They are playing solid fundamental hockey. They are totally dismantling Pittsburgh. One period left...up 4-1

I have watched 2 Pittsburgh games...one they won...and this one. I see the exact same problems I have the last couple years...if not worse. I will go out on a limb here...they don't make the playoffs for the second year in a row. The only positive I see is the Malkin line. This is their top line...not the Crosby line.

I have said this before...the team that has surprised me the most is the Detroit Redwings. They are skating as the game should be played. Hustle. Throwing themselves across the ice to take away lanes and block shots. To pester constantly. It is a long season...but they will raise their point total by 20 and make the playoffs. They are last year's Kraken...my team...struggling bad

The Jets are really turning it around! After going 1-3-0 and allowing 19 goals in their first four games, they are 3-0-0 in their last three, allowing only five goals combined, counting the imminent win against Detroit right now. Much has been made of attendance issues, but we're still not Phoenix, not even close. ;)

I'm still in shock over that hockey accident in the UK. Why did he lift his leg at all?

Canes win 3-2 in OT,Kraken get a point.Good game tonight enjoyed it.
Get well soon Ms.Sassy. :rose:
Thank you. Now that I no longer have Root Sports I can't watch many of the games but I've been trying to listen at least. I hope that I will be able to go to at least one game this year.

The WHL has announced kevlar neck protection will be mandatory after the death in Europe. For those that don't know...skates are as sharp as a knife. This change is a good thing

Bruins beat the Leafs in a shootout to up their record to 9-0-1. The one they lost (in OT) was to Anaheim, a game which they led 3-1 with 1:55 remaining in the 3rd period.

It is a shame the dude died from the skate cut to the neck. But here is the true insanity....they just arrested and charged the guy whose skate cut him with manslaughter. Might as well stop all contact sports. Shit happens. If it bothered you...charge the league for not requiring the neck protection that would have prevented it.

I guess for me the difference is in why his leg even went up. Was it an accident or on purpose. That would make the difference to me.

I have played hockey all my life, and have watched as much as anyone. Coached.
I have never seen anything like that.
I watched it probably 15 times before i realized he actually KICKED him in the throat.
There is no way possible in a hockey play, for a skate to come up and make first contact above the waist unless it was intentional. Nevermind throat height. Its unbelievable.
I am surprised it took this long for an arrest.
And as for your stop all contact sports comment, imagine if in a football pile or a rugby scrum, someone grabbed someone's head and broke the guys neck.
What then? "Its a contact sport?"
Fucking blades on feet and the guy KICKS another guy in the fucking THROAT???
Unreal. Just unreal.

While I'm sure he wasn't trying to kill him, to me it looked like a deliberate kick up high with a metal blade. I don't see how at all it was in the scope of a "hockey play"

While I don't like the idea of rushing to criminal charges when something violent happens within the context of a sport, this feels different (and not just because of a tragic death).

This is graphic. Do not click link if it could bother you. A person died here...and this is the sad thing

I am torn. Yes...his skate was where it shouldn't have been. But the true contact was with another player...and momentum is a bitch. An object in motion stays in motion. When the contact was made with the uninjured player...a fair check in my opinion...but his torso stopped moving...meaning if he had a leg in the air...that leg automatically moves forward at a greater momentum. That is what it looks like to me. And it looks like Johnson skated into it

I think the devil is in the details. Does the guy have a history of skating out of control? If not....this is a freak accident.

I wasn't there. But I have skated quasi- competitively. Here is how it could happen.

There are 3 guys involved. Guy 1 is who I am assuming got charged. He is smaller. Faster. One of those pain in the asses always causing disruption. Is he skating too fast? Maybe. But that is what those little fucks do. He sees Guy 2 on the line...I believe he just got rid of the puck. So Guy 1 pushes off with his left skate to bump shoulders with Guy 2. Guy 1 is a little behind...I don't feel it was a penalty...but I can also see an interference call. It just is scrappy play.

Guy 2 sees Guy 1 coming for him...that's why I don't feel it was a penalty...and pushes off with his right skate to take the hit. Only problem...Guy 2 weighs probably a good 50 pounds more than Guy 1. Guy 2's left shoulder catches Guy 1's right shoulder square. Guy 1 goes ass over apple cart

Now...anyone else that has gone ass over apple cart knows this is gonna hurt. Your left leg...which you just used to push into the hit...is off the ice. This leg has no where to go except straight out. If you are lucky...you can torque your body enough to land on your side...and you won't have the wind taken out. If you land on your back...you ain't getting right up. This movement...torques the skate from an up/down position...to one parallel to the ice

Unfortunately...Guy 3 is moving in...and the leg is right there. Because Guy 1 got his ass handed to him by Guy 2...the skate is nowhere it should be...and there is no controlling it. I doubt Guy 1 even saw Guy 3

I'm not speculating on how it can happen, these things have happened accidentally. If you watch the video, it does not look like the result of a collision to me.

A collision where one player get tipped head over heels and then happens to get in stake in the path of a nearby skater would be nothing but a freak tragic accident. Based on the video, more investigation is needed than just calling it a tragic accident. I hope it is, but I'm not sure based on what I've seen.

Petgrave was permanently suspended from the ECHL for repeated slewfooting. So....why did the English team pick him up? To do exactly what he does. Raise havoc

If people want justice...go after those that deserve it

He hasn't been charged. He's been arrested, yes. It's up to the CPS to see if there's any evidence of intention and if it's in the public's interest to authorise a charge.

Bruins defeat the Canadiens and are now 13-1-2. This was the 759th meeting of these two original 6 teams.
