No good will come of getting tougher on crime. Takes us in exactly the wrong direction.

A felony is a felony is a felony. They're all equal. Unless it's a "wobbler."

Extenuating circumstances usually drop felonies to misdemeanors. Not always, but usually. In those cases, there's no strike enhancement.

Extenuating circumstances in itself is kind of a vague thing, but there are programs to help the desperate. Failing to use those programs should bar an extenuating circumstances defense.
 
There should be a rule on the number of felonies people can be convicted of before losing their right to own a gun, right to vote, right to be elected to office, right to liberty.

That should be 33 or less. And no exemption for those desperate for power.
