For the Love of Stephen King

Hi all!
I'm excited to get the new book, which I'll probably order on Kindle. I haven't read any of his short stories in forever!
I just started Fairy Tale a couple days ago. I'm up to Chapter 3. So far it's keeping my interest pretty good.

Notice that some are reading the Dark Tower series. Never could get into it before but perhaps I'll try again before the end of summer.

Happy reading!!
I loved Fairy Tale … even if it made me cry at work … but overall such an interesting and unique story.

I had never gotten into the dark tower series myself … so now I’m reading it and am on book 5 already. It is a good series … book 1 is kind of meh though so if you read that and are blah about it I urge you to keep reading … cuz book 2 is definitely better!

I have also avoided the dark tower series. And I’m not 100 % sure why. I think it feels like a huge commitment. And I’m also more into his more horrific stuff. He’s right. I like it fucken darker

I think I avoided it for so long because it seems like a huge commitment too but I assure you it has it's very dark and vivid moments. I almost gave up halfway through two but am glad I stuck with it.

At the end of this one there was a message from SK talking about how this series is different from the rest of his works and how the story has needed to be told over the decades because the characters in his mind have so much to say. Oh to be a fly in the wall during his creative process.

That man is fertile

Took a break and I’m back into it … book 5

So far so weird … as with all the books in the series … strange language… bizarre landscapes.

Anyone read "You Like It Darker" yet? I'm intrigued but haven't bit thus far on Amazon Kindle.

I can't wait to get there! I took a break to read something non-King but will be back to book 3 now.

I have not but I know @PlanetaryNebula and @crazychemgirl recently got copies so they might have more insight. I almost bought a copy the other day but I have so many books to read right now so I'm holding off lol.

I hear ya on so many books. Haha. Thank you.

HI All.

I'm a little more than halfway through Fairy Tale right now (Ch. 17). Loving it so far.
Jeez, just when you think this man has written about everything....he puts a new twist on a simple "boy and his dog" story. It never ceases to amaze me.
Planning on tackling If It Bleeds next before I contemplate diving into the Dark Tower stuff.

Happy reading!

I blasted through Fairy Tale … I’m glad you are enjoying it.

His mind is truly amazing

I read it and completed it. Wasnt as dark as I like it but still very good stories. Laurie is my favorite

On the home stretch … book 6 finished and only book 7 left to go.

This series is mental … it’s so long, and so intertwined with all his other stories … it’s got so much world building and weird language! … he really is quite a writer.

I had to stop and take a break but your posts are so encouraging to keep reading. Thanks for continuing to check in and share your progress!

Yeah I was gonna take a break after 6 but I was compelled to find out what happens!! … so I started 7 but oh man..,1100 pages.. what a beast!

I’m glad I started the series though… it was always one I heard people talk about but was never into it for the longest time… I think cuz book 1 is so odd … I wasn’t drawn into the story like I was after book 2 and so on.

I’m gonna work on finishing all his books and the Bachman books… I might even re-read some like I did with It and The Shining … especially with new knowledge of the connectivity of the worlds. I think it’s like watching a movie after years and finally understand some nuance or part and the overall movie being more enjoyable with the new context.

You know I'm a huge Dark Tower nerd. :p

Book 1 is odd and minimal when put up against the other books, it comes across as a weird sci-fi western, but it's the necessary setup for the rest of it. The series as a whole just gets wilder as it goes along.

Book 7 is indeed a beast but a great conclusion. No spoilers but keep the tissues handy.

Has nobody mentioned Needful Things yet? Scandalous! By far my favorite. Great portrayal of that dark edge of the obsessive psyche.
Plus, a fantastic tribute to it by Rick and Morty, which was so good I probably won’t be able to read the book again. Read the book first!
