I guess that some form of explanation is indicated.
Some (slightly less than) 5 years ago, I was told I'd got cancer.
Where once I had a tonsil, I had developed a tumor. This was something of a
surprise and not a welcome event, as you might understand.
Well, six weeks of radio and chemo -therapy (some of the most uncomfortable
treatments in my life) seems to have fixed it. But note; you do not get "cured".
Progress is checked; firstly evey month, then three then four then six monthly for five years. If you make it to five years, the patient should have little to worry about and the term "cured" may become appropriate.

And I have one more check; next December. If that goes well, the term may be used.

And if the Queen smiles at my name; she ain't told me so far! :)

Well the weather is bright and sunny, but the wind is quite brisk;
one might say too brisk.
Unless you like sailing, of course. . . .

Meanwhile, I feel the pull of my shed for its electronics...

HP, I'm so happy for you.:rose: You've just been added to my prayers. :devil: Even people who are a "little devilish"pray~!

I've been helping my brother, who was dx with cancer a few years ago, deal with all sorts of issues. It (cancer) has it's up's and down's for him. Six months ago, I had him in Sloan Kettering, a cancer hospital in NYC. Things did not look good. In the past two weeks, we've been back to MSKCC, and his tumors have not grown, his numbers are good, and he looks better than he has in a year.

The only 'common' thing that cancer has, across the people it attacks, is that it truly sucks on all levels.

Now, on the positive side... Some people should simply have their mouths checked every few months anyway. ...and it has nothing to do with a f/u for cancer~! I'm going to start making a list of Litster's who should sign up. ;)

Thank you both for your kind wishes.

The only really unfortunate part is that I have been told not to drink (obviously some sort of blanket ban keeps their hands clean :rolleyes: ). This peeves me on account I have a modest supply of some really good booze (Dutch Gin, German Brandy, etc.) and some decent vintage Port.
It does not do my heart any good to look at a half-full bottle and sigh. . . .
:)

Almost four years ago, following a near run thing with the grim reaper, I was having a consultation with a very senior cardiologist.

‘It says here that you drink,’ he said. ‘How much?’

‘Probably a lot more than I should,’ I told him.

He smiled and nodded. ‘Oh well, join the club,’ he said. And we moved on to the next topic.

Yes you may. His primary tumor site was pancreas, however, by the time they finally dx him, he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer with mets to his liver. The bad news it's CANCER~!! The good news is it's a rare form of pancreatic cancer, called Neuroendocrine Pancreatic Cancer and it grows very slowly as opposed to other cancers of the pancreas. He has multiple tumor sites in his liver.

On top of that, most likely secondary to his treatment for the neuroendocrine tumors, he developed a rare leukemia. CML or Chronic Myeloid Leukemia...Bad news CANCER...good news, if you have to have leukemia, this is one of the better ones to choose~!

Did I mention my brother doesn't like to do anything the "normal" or "every day" way. If he's going to have cancer, he's going to do it to the best of his ability~!

Anyway, he is looking and feeling fairly good right now. So, bad news..it's cancer~! Good news, he's doing well this month. We take it day by day...week by week, etc.

So, my brain and my heart know something of what you are living with/through. I wish you the absolute best. If there is ever anything you need or if I can be of help, let me know. (I'm medically oriented~!! Thank God~!!) xo:rose:

I discovered that the newer types of chemo stuff are a great deal easier than the stuff they gave me a few short years ago. I was talking to a sufferer the other day who told me that his chemo was one jab every three weeks.

I've seen firsthand the effects of cancer and the treatments since my grandfather died of lung cancer in 1964. Fifty years ago, it was one of the most deadly diseases and the treatments were almost as bad as the illness. The medical strides made between then and my father losing his own battle with the dreaded "C" in 1983 had been tremendous even though the cure rate was still low.

The progress over the next 25 years were even more eye-opening when I had to face it myself with my ex being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2006. His treatments were brutal but well worth it as he ended up in total remission within nine months and has been cancer-free for the last six years.

Maybe someday we can talk about cancer the way we talk about a bad case of the flu. Maybe. Someday.
