Gardening: Plants, Flowers, Veggies, Trees and All Things Green

Woohoo, congrat!

This is a very sad time of year for me. Dying flowers. It’s the saddest thing. Everything looks dried up and haggard. Everyone says, ‘oh look at the beautiful colors on the trees beginning’. Leaves on trees about to be dead 😞
Colors will be pretty, then everything naps for winter. Spring awakens with abundance of colors, smells, and pollen.

I understand. This is a melancholy time of time year for me too. But I have come to appreciate other times of year.

We stock up on late summer flowers: Cosmo, montauk daisies (I have a million of them, if you ever want cuttings), the marigolds still go strong, the garlic chives comes out to play and Astors are on the way.

Still, it is sad to see our good friends die for the season. Here’s a poem I wrote about it.

Back from vacation. Need to weed these beds badly, but the flowers are still going strong.

Goldenrod, echinacea, garlic chives, coreopsis, black eyed Susan, camomile. Even some phlox, heliopsis, a few geranium.

And sunflowers going strong.

You don’t have to open up Instagram, but you can use a little triangle on the right side to scroll between the pictures and a couple videos.

Cool, awesome sunflower.

Thanks! It grew up crooked (started it in a little peat pot which stunted its growth) but is looking good! 😀
Neighbor did the Dwarf variety, they did ok. My daughter did the giant one by mistake and we ended up with 6 heads. Plant itself was nearly 10 feet tall before it toppled over.
