Gardening: Plants, Flowers, Veggies, Trees and All Things Green

My garden is done for. My schedule was so messed up with being short handed, I pulled what was ripe and let the rest go. The deer enjoyed some of it, horse next door got a little bit, and one very fat raccoon enjoyed the cantaloupe. Off next week and maybe get it settled in for winter.

I know it was super hot and dry in your area too. That could not have helped things.

Tomatoes have been really good this year. My pumpkins not so much. They look like they grown pretty well and then they just sort of rotted. I used seeds last year’s pumpkins and I wonder if they were hybrid or something.

I’m going to start fresh with good, high quality pumpkin seeds over the winter.

The fall flowers are out in force. Black eyed season, boneset, garlic, chives, goldenrod.

The Astors and Montauk daisies are still not yet blooming. When I come back from vacation next week, I imagine they will be emerging.

I’m an American but work closely w our London office. Shit weather this year. 🙁

Love the daisies. Mine finally booked after 2 years. Deer finally left them alone

I haven't worked in the garden since Memaw went into hospice care. It's been weeks since she's been gone..and I finally went to check on things yesterday. Gathered several Jack o'Lantern sized pumpkins from under fallen basil plants. There's still a handful of zinnias blooming from under the dried remains of cucumber vines. The peppers are so heavy with fruit they're beginning to bow down. Seeds need to be gathered for next year before they're lost. Time to start busting my ass, again.

Just be careful and don't wear yourself out.

My brush pile is getting larger with more yard debris lately with all this wild weather.I usually pick out a cold December day and burn it though.

Feels kinda nice standing beside it ;)

Burn ban here from where everyone was burning piles. Have a burn barrel and do little at a time with it.

35F night slated for next week...picking what I can. Not even going to sorry about the little varieties...

Those are all beautiful 😍
My pepper crop this year was 💩
Very small yield. Sad face here!
Although a very nice Lady gave me a bunch of Reapers.
Made a quart of infused olive oil for cooking and dipping and two quarts of sauce.

Thanks! I have a lot of other varieties, but these are the only ones I was worried about today. What happened to your peppers this year?
Start you own company
Darlin', I would love to.

Have you considered a farm stand??

We sell tons of stuff! Not a huge money maker but good to get rid of stuff and not go to waste!

I live on a really rural street without much traffic.. so I could and just advertise on Facebook. There's a really nice farmer's market that opens twice a week in town, but I would need two licenses for that.

I did manage to sell extra plants at the beginning of the season and was able to recoup all off my initial expenses.

I'm always so happy to see this thread is still going. I love it.

Here in the south of England we're caught in some weird moment between seasons. Tomorrow night is just above freezing (ie. winter is coming) but the ivy isn't even out yet (ie. autumn hasn't properly started).

We're at the end of season three of the positive project, which is a tiny plot on concrete aimed mostly at encouraging biodiversity and general pollinators.. as much as you can when it takes 30 seconds to walk across the space.

It's mostly pots, but it's been an amazing year. First ever onion crop, first echinacea, first sea holly, these strawflowers are kinda cute, the lime green nicotiana had an identity crisis. Did you know dwarf snapdragons look weird as heck? And, as ever, there's no stopping the buddleia.

And of course, it's hard to keep dry in England in the autumn..

And as ever, a special shout out to the head gardener, always attentive..

I’m glad you enjoy the thread.

I’ve been to England a few times and I’m always amazed at how much there are flowers out, even when i was there in December. Maybe they were pansies. And it was cold. Snowing one day.

Your garden allotment looks great.

But your helper??? May need some inspiration. 😂
