Its not that bad, just different.

Kayte.....every Sunday, all my life, we have eaten lunch at my grandmothers. There are usually between 10 and 25 of us there. Its like a mini family re union every Sunday.

Today's menu consisted of:

Fried chicken
Bacon
Sausage
Green Beans
Butter Beans
Purple hull peas
Mashed potatoes
Bakes sweet potatoes
Deviled eggs
Sliced tomatoes
Ambrosia
Angel food cake
Devils food cake
Biscuits
Iced tea
Coffee

The menu changes each Sunday but we are all still together.

Going there every Sunday drove my ex nuts, but family is so important to me. I spent so many years when I was growing up wanting to get away from home and then when I left I wanted to come back. Now I'm back, I'm home.

I think it must be wonderful to be so close to so much family. So much of mine is so distant (either geographically or emotionally) that we barely speak, let alone see each other.

I'd risk the cholestoral to be welcome at that table any day.

I left out the baked pork chops.

As with all families we have our issues, most are not the most emotionally open people in the world but they are strong willed and expect that of us.

This Sunday was hard. This weekend and the next will be harder still. This Sunday one yr ago was the last Sunday that my grandfather was at home with us. We had hamburgers that day, because it was what he wanted.

I look at my hands and the shape of my wrist, so like his, so like my mom and I miss him. After lunch today I settled into his chair and slept, dreaming of him.

My little one cries and says he misses Ole Pop (as he called him) and its hard to help settle his tears as I shed ones of my own.

My grandmother has made coffee on the stove all my life and in the same pot as far as I know.

Same with tea, she has this little boiler that she makes it in on top of the stove, she has always put a plate over it to let it steep, I don't know where the top is to the boiler or if it ever had one.

This could make duplicating the process for you rather difficult.

Yes it could. What is the blend of tea that you use? What is the tea / sugar ratio? What is the brand of sugar you prefer? Do you press the liquid from the tea leaves after it has been steeped? How long does it steep?

How long does it steep? most often about 2 hrs., never let it boil just let the water get hot, put the tea bags in and turn it off.

Irish ~ I've seen that movie... and the money pit as well... I buy these old things and fix them up and sell them as a hobby... it keeps me from pursuing wild women who turn out to be bad for me.

But to give you all a little description... split level, 3 br, 1.5 bath (.5 doesn't work at all and full bath has rotted floor), unfinished basement (except for new fireplace whose flue runs through the center of the master closet). Plywood cabinets in the kitchen, carpeting in decent shape and stucco on most of the inside walls. One acre lot which slopes from the creek towards the house, swimming pool filled 2/3 with dirt. Roof with two layers of shingles and both layers need removed and replaced. Siding that was recalled, refund given to previous owner but siding never replaced... oh, an $8,000 worth of new windows throughout the entire house but a hollow core (inside door) as the front door...

Yep, that about sums it up! Pretty much a house that guarantees any woman who falls in love with me will not do so for my house!

Honestly Sir Frog, the house sounds fabulous. I love taking something like that which is essentially sound and recreating it. Much like I'm currently doing with myself.

One day.......I'll tell you about the one that I restored. Not today, today I'm not strong enough and the hurt is too close to the surface.

Sweet Tea Our Way

;Well you need some Lipton Tea Bags.
1. Put 4 regular size (not family size) in a 2qt pan.
2. fill it about half way with water.
3. turn stove on high.
4. let it boil only for a second or two. Reason is, if it boils to long the teag bag with break and then you got grains in your tea.
5. Take a gallon or half picture and put two scoops (shit, what size is the scoop). Um, i think thats about 1/2 cup of sugar.
I use dixie crystal sugar.
6. stir untill sugar has dissolved.
7. fill picture up with water and put in fidge. add ice and serve.

Lady D...I'm afraid you'll find me entirely unacceptable.

My ancestors on Pop's side of the family were all carpenters/cabinet makers. Pop looks at what I do to a piece of wood, sighs, and gives Mom that "Is he really mine?" look.

I signed up for Band in Middle School to get out of taking Wood Shop. But on the other hand, playing in the brass section gave me GREAT lip control. I think that stood me better in the long run.

I think they closed down half the state today.

We don't mind snow, we like snow .......... but that sleet and freezing rain crap.......you can keep it.

We're going this weekend to get our tree, the little guy wants a "my size" tree so we shall go forth in search of a 46 inch high tree. Way different from the 9 ft trees of years past.

Such is life.
