Halloween Contest Support Thread

I had an idea a few weeks ago for the contest. Last year I didn't enter but it's amazing what a challenge from someone else can do for motivation. About nine last night I started and a little after three this morning I had it finished. Now to decide if I think it's good enough or if it goes in the recycle bin like so many others I write.

It's probably not good enough yet, if it is just the first draft. However, ou have a month to polish it because the contest doesn't start until Oct. 1. :)

True, although you never saw a 'first draft' of mine. My OCD shows up big time in them. ;)

wrote another sentence just now. if i continue at this rate, i might finish it just in time.

Thanks to starrkers and Boxlicker101 I have edited my pending tale to include the missing word.

Og isn't always up to date with what I am doing.

I think he's got schizophrenia...

Glad to be of service (and to know I actually had it right )

Sitting here looking over my hand-scribbled notes from work, I don't think mine has a strong enough tie to Halloween to really put in the contest. I could make a couple of minor revisions and put it at any time of the year. *sigh*

Back to the drawing board. Still going to write it, but now I'm fresh out of ideas for the contest again.

I've always wanted to do the Halloween Contest, but I really don't think I understand the whole US Halloween thing well enough.

It can be a scary story or a story related to Halloween, such as trick or treaters. Either would be close enough to Halloween to get by.

It just doesn't feel Halloween enough for me. The story is set in Egypt, and things kick off on Halloween, but that's coincidence rather than a triggering factor. The setting dilutes the Halloween feeling even more.

The idea popped up from a couple of images I ran across while searching for something else, and a scene that's meant to foreshadow things to come, while at the same time leading the readers to jump to a conclusion that's totally wrong *laugh*

Those images I ran across ended up incorporated into a cover image for the story before I'd even assembled the chaotic brainstorm into a storyline.

Easier to goof around with images when I'm half asleep than to write. I have to keep my eyes wide open to tinker ( however poorly ) with images. I mentioned earlier that the opposite usually applies when I write.

I'm going to enjoy writing it, even if it isn't going to end up in the contest. With a little luck, I'll finish it in time to post it while the contest is going on, anyway.

i think if it is a story with a horror element, it works for halloween, even if otherwise the connection to halloween is a bit vague... my story takes place on halloween, and has slight horror elements i think, but isn't a description of halloween customs either...

I've completed my first draft of what was intended to be last year's, or was it the year before last's, Halloween entry.

The Halloween link is tenuous but it is 7,000 words of Erotic Horror.

Now for the editing, re-editing, re-writing...

Laundry Tale 4

My fourth ghost-narrated Laundry Tale: Blind Man's Buff has just been posted.

I had originally intended it as a Halloween Contest Entry but despite being told by Martha the resident ghost it has no connection to Halloween so I submitted it as a normal story.

Martha hasn't finished telling her Tales but now I have to try to write an entry for the Halloween Contest.

I'm annoyed. Although I've finished another Martha tale, Og has written his Halloween entry and is now on his second edit.

I haven't even got to the first plot outline.

I actually got my first story back from my editor today (that's the 20,000 word monster) and just finished implementing his suggestions - so it is done now, and I can focus on the second story. Yay! :)

This is a writing thread...

...so it shouldn't be on page 5.

Here in the UK the rain is falling, the floods are around.

It seems as if Halloween will be next week.

Get writing!

I've been plugging away at mine. The first draft is about two thirds done, and is a throwback to some of my first stories. That is, it is a first person story, with no pretensions to any literary merit.

Two are good to go (edited and formatted and everything), am still writing on the third one (half way through).

I'm battling my instincts to include more twists and red herrings, otherwise it might become yet another novella in disguise.

I'm working on one, and have another floating around in my head ( Maybe two )

The first may not end up in the contest, although it's shaping up to possibly meet my personal criteria for the contest in my head. It meets the black and white bar for the contest, but I'm still not sure whether there's enough "spirit" of the contest in it to actually enter it.

The second one is a creeper inspired by the Alice Cooper song "Wind up Toy", if I get it rolling and finish it in time.

i have arrived at the sex scene, or well, the build up to it... and so far i still have ideas and enjoy writing it, hope it stays that way.

:) Just finished the first draft of the third piece ... I am not sure whether I should place it in Erotic Horror or Non-Human though. Guess I am going to flip a coin in the end. ;)
