Your survival situation is very much different than what's in this neck of the woods. My grandma's Winchester Model 12 in 20 ga was deadly in her hands. Cunt is not a word that could be used in her description.

God love a frontier wife. I can't tell you how happy I was that Herself enjoyed shooting today and her natural competitiveness kicked in and made her want to hit stuff every time. Not a flinch, not a complaint, not an iota of nervous, just laser-like focus and frustration when rounds didn't go where she wanted them to.

First time she ever shot a firearm, and when I asked what she liked best, her answer was the Winchester, the .284, with the .38 sp a close second. She agreed that the .22 was "fun" but sort of bleah. Like, not much of a challenge.

I was so proud.

oh yea...I live in the northwest but not 49th state north west lol. I really want to visit Alaska for a nice long hunting/fishing trip, I have herd nothing but tales of epic beauty and brutality come from those who have taken such trips and it sounds like a blast.

Yea that could deff be handy. A naked SOCOM II is 10.9 lbs so I'm guessing with a 20 rnd mag, trijicon, surefire and gangster grip im pushing 14-15 lbs. It is heavy, like a fully loaded M4/203 combo but the .308 round packs a pretty stout punch.

Yea, that is the one advantage of the bigger round...esp if I were to cross paths with a bigger dinner than a rodent. True about the eye of the beholder but my dad said the mosquitoes up there will send you home looking like a wad of chewed bubble gum if you go at the wrong time of year . I am pretty sure I would have a blast up there, just got to get everyone who wants to go on the same page with work/vacay schedule's.

There are folk who post here or have posted here who would be good sources, Thor being the top choice. If that trip ever starts getting close, start a thread and let them give you recommendations. The state is absolutely stunning and the folk are wonderful, if somewhat eccentric in many cases.

Save me the arduous search. What was that 7mm that you said was your favorite rifle?

It's a Spanish La Coruna Mauser (Essentially a M98 Mauser made in Spain under sub-license agreement) that I re-barreled chambered for Rem. .280 Imp. The .280 is basically a 30-06 necked down to 7mm. The Imp. refers to changing the shoulder angle to increase the powder capacity. There are two versions of the .280 Imp. The Ackley version with a 40 deg shoulder and the RCBS Imp. with a 30 deg. shoulder. I shoot the Ackley version. (Std. shoulder angle is 17 deg 30 min) The accuracy is unbelievable and you get 7mm Mag. performance without the mags vices.

I don't have a reloading bench, but have borrowed others to use for loading rounds for HP metallic silhouette matches. That's a fun game.

They do tear into folk now and then. There was never a problem near town when I was a kid as the bears had been shot out. And if there was a problem, it was taken care of quickly.

Large groups are a pita in my opinion for most trips up this way. Might as well be in a tour group. Go with good friend and you'll have a great time. Remember that a cub carries 2 people and one is the pilot, a 180 carries 4 total.

.22 mag is a great round... I have my eyes on a springfield M6 scout in .22 hornet/.410, but I wish it was rim-fire .22 mag. They make a .22 LR version, but it's not really what I'm looking for.
