I don't get it. I shot my buddy's Kimber a while ago and it just, you know, fired every time I pulled the trigger. Same as atmas' Glock. What's the big deal?

It's like an alien abduction, except you would enjoy the cavity probe.![]()

those features biggie. Best part it's only a couple hundred more than the 700 kimber, not some 3000 piece of jewelry (not that there is ANYTHING wrong with them, just not my style). You need a different hobby.
I woke up this morning to a card that said, basically, "Happy birthday, buy yourself a shotgun."
So now I need suggestions for a mid-range, all around 12-ga that will shoot trap, be a reasonable choice for home defense, and hunt if I decide to start hunting with it. Anyone got a favorite?
What are you looking to spend?

How much does the birthday boy get to blow on his new toy this year?
I wouldn't suggest a break action for anything other than "Oh it's so pretty/how cool" collectors item.
Leaves you with pump action and semi auto.
Pump on a budget and or a tough as nails ultra reliable home def/tac shot gun? Mossberg 500 hands down...it's the M4 of shot guns, you can modify for various set ups, accessorize/project that thing forever and ever. You can get them for around 250- 300 bucks pretty much anywhere guns are sold and they are a great fighting shotty. I carried one in combat, I have one by the bed...it's a beast.
For more of a sport/hunting/pretty/comfy shotty my favorite (and 2nd on my gun wish list) is the Remington 879 SPS sure shot.
They run 500-550 and shoot like a dream (buddy has one and i'm totally sold on it)...you could hunt or shoot clay all day with it and I won't say you won't feel it but it won't be anything like the beating the mossberg dishes out.
Semi auto...****!!!!
I don't own any semi auto shot guns but I do want the benelli M4. it's like 1800 bucksit is widely regarded as the end all be all and is THE fastest semi auto shot gun made, the thing is absalutely bad ass.

Fucking bad ass ^^^
However I have herd/read Remington and Saiga both make fine products and have good customer service as well.
Hope this helps you get started, good luck and congratulations/happy birthday.

That's great info, thanks! I trained on the Mossberg in the Guard, and that was my first thought since I know it.
So basically, it's either that or similar or I spend significantly more on something much fancier?
Thanks, Johnny.Trap, home defense and hunting are three different things with different requirements in a shotgun. Trap is usually a long barreled gun with break action. Home defense is usually shorter barreled with pump action. A gun for hunting would be best with a mid-length barrel and bolt action.
If I could have any shotgun, I'd get this: http://www.mossberg.com/product/sho...-special-purpose-special-purpose-9-shot/50645
But you'd never shoot trap with it. It would be a good compromise between home defense and hunting.
I thought about the Remington as well. It's funny how the guns in a particular profile that you've heard of tend to be the ones everyone suggests...Mossberg 500 was going to be my entry-level suggestion.
Saiga's are great, but expect to have to put a LOT of work into converting it, and they're very finicky about what they'll feed well.
IF you've got the money, and can find one, I'd recommend a VEPR12. They're kind of hard to find though.
Remington 800s are great for more of a mid-range pump option. The amount of aftermarket parts available is fantastic.
Or, you can always get a SPAS12, but make sure you get a later version with the button safety... Kind of heavy/unwieldy, but awesome at the same time.
I've never shot a Banelli, but I've always wanted to.
Personally, I'd go with the Saiga, but only if you have a lot of extra time on your hands to fiddle with it. For the price of a decent 800, you can have a really nice semi-auto set-up. They'll eat up your time, and they can eat up the more expensive shells... If you can, get it set-up to cycle cheap stuff, asap, because you'll be wanting to shoot it a lot.
NP...yea familiarity has it's perks.
No...those are just the ones I would suggest b/c I tried them and liked them.
There are other ones you can get in the same price range (250-500) that are all of all sorts of designs. And if you stick with a good reputable name brand it's kinda hard to go wrong imo. Remington, Mossberg, Seaiga, Browning are all good manufactures of very reasonably priced shot guns.
What I would do if i were you is check out a site like Cheaper than dirt...do some E window shopping..pick out a few think you might like, then google/youtube the various models and check out the reviews on them. Go fondle the winners at your local shops if you can and then make the call. At least that's how I do my gun shopping. If you have a friend who has one or the chance to rent a few and can get a chance to see how they shoot I do that as well but it's not always the case or even necessary.
I just sold mine, bought another for $400.00 and sold it too.![]()

I assume you like your's "just so" as well? Makes sense. This is harder. I know exactly which rifles and handguns I want. Shotties, well, seems to me they all go "Bang!" real loud when I pull the trigger.
The man knows his shot guns lol ^^^^
I'm a huge fan of tinkering/customizing/ tweaking my set ups so I guess that kinda explains my taste in hardware.I assume you like your's "just so" as well?
I'm tore up man, not really b/c i'm getting the 879 first for hunting but I so want this classic little bad ass...just for the cool factor.
