Hey, gun nuts!

Check out http://www.ruger1022.com/docs/22lrballistics.htm

Just a quick check, shows WMR is roughly twice as powerful (in foot/lbs of energy) as .22LR. I'd say it probably would really only make a difference for squirrel; bunnies and bigger would be fine. The WMR would be better for larger camp-meat, or varmints, or for longer ranges.

The .410 would work better for squirrels anyway. :D

The WMR is a good cartridge, but I would stick with the .22LR unless you've already got a .22LR that is going to be around and want something with more reach and power. .410 Slugs will provide as much more power as the WMR -- and maybe the range, too. I just don't think the WMR gives enough extra to be worth it.
You're convincing me. It seems like this is a relatively close range weapon anyway.
At least it's nice to see they've resurrected the old Model 24 design. For one I'd like to see a .22LR or WMR over .45 long Colt. ala The Judge. You can always drop a .410 into the .45 chamber for birds, etc. while having a credible high power option for the lower barrel.

Ishmael
That's a damn good idea, Ish. It's too bad they didn't chamber the 42 to accept 45 LC as well. That would have been a super versatile little field gun. I notice the Circuit Judge comes with a synthetic "tactical" stock now, though...might be a good expedition gun.

The Italians do know how to make a beautiful shotgun. I have had my 302A for 23 years. It is still my fav shooter, lightweight easy to break down and clean and a beautiful fast action.

Montana police: Cable hunting show host shot and killed by jealous husband

Police in Whitefish, Montana said on Friday that Sportsman Channel host Gregory Rodríguez was shot and killed by a friend’s jealous husband.

According to KRTV-TV, Rodríguez, host of A Rifleman’s Journal and an editor for Guns & Ammo Magazine and other outdoors publications, was visiting the state as part of a business trip when he went to see the woman at her mother’s house on Thursday night.

Whitefish Police Chief Bill Dial said the woman’s husband, 41-year-old Wayne Bengston, “came into the house, immediately shot Mr. Rodríguez and killed him almost instantly.

Just thought you should know.

I got the original spring for the 1822 charleville on sunday. Now I just need to replace the nipple and the old girl will be back in buisness

First time shooting trap with the 870 last night. 11/25 then 17/25. Took me a while to sort out the site picture and settle down. I think I was flinching a bit in the beginning, but the second round felt good. Everybody shot for shit yesterday, too, bunch of guys bitching about the wind and light and stuff. My excuse is that I pointed the gun in the wrong direction eight times...

Thanks, Harold. I'm thinking it`s going to be useful for filling the pot and a light carry for doing various survival exercises. I guess the real question is whether there's anything 22lr will do that 22 mag won't, ie is it so much more powerful that it`s too much for, say, squirrels or bunnies or whatever?

22 mag is a far superior round in every way except for cost.

.22lr is great for plinking... but not much else.

Nice scores for a new piece....you will dial it in with a little more trigger time and your picture sight on that sweet spot will be reflexive.

Obviously I have no clue how you were shooting or under what conditions...however my biggest challenge with trap shooting was overcoming everything I learned in the Army. Several years and a few hundred thousand rounds is a hard thing to turn off.

I sucked at trap shooting with standard beads on a shotty. I'm so used to shooting rifles with both eyes open trying to go dominant eye on a long tube threw me off.

Pulled the EOTECH off my P90 and mounted it....score went from 22-23/40 to 38/40...I caught all kinds of flack for it but it helped me baseline my problem (me) so I ran the course one more time to collect my 40/40 just to rub it in. Then I went back and started doing it with the traditional sights and it took me a few runs through to really get a feel for it but I did.

Sounds like you had fun though, and in the end that's all that matters :D

Perg, .22 mag is choice, esp for survival....

Right, natch, but does .22mag cause small animals to explode?

Yup. I figure it's all about trigger time now. I'm lmao at the reaction of a bunch of old rich guys if I showed up with some fancy cqb tech. But yeah, pretty much fun. I can see this getting to be a regular thing.

I don't either, as a rule, but this is a survival tool, so it's a consideration.

"survival tool" is an extremely broad statement.

Is this something long term that needs to stand up to constant abuse and weather conditions?

If so, I'd suggest a over/under single shot, like a Springfield scout rifle. I can't remember off hand, but I think it's a M6 or something along those lines. They made them in .410/22 lr and .410/22mag. They'll run you about $600-800.

If you need a .22 mag for carrying on hikes and stuff, I'd go with an 8 shot revolver. S&W makes one, and I think rossi does as well.

Otherwise, if you need a little more range, go with a .22 mag carbine like a marlin or a ruger.

I'm not exactly sure yet, tbh, but I don't carry a gun while hiking. Always seemed pointless to me. The Springfield seems like a good idea, though. Been thinking about a 10-22 Takedown, too.

10-22s are great, but I think they're a bit overpriced these days. They're definitely very versatile, and you can set them up in a so many different ways, especially with all the aftermarket stuff you can get for them.

Yeah, they are, and the TD just came out, so no used option either. But I like the versatility as well.

Not anything big enough to be worth shooting for a meal (rabbit, big squirrel etc) but it will have a harder time taking down bigger tougher game. You might have to chase it for a while but it will get the job done if you find yourself in some suck.

LOL yea it was pretty funny, even pulled out the M500 shorty just fucking around, couldn't hit shit but it was a good laugh.

Oh dude I love it for nice chill days.

If you want a truly TU survival rifle, check into a .22/.410 combo gun...I have a savage model and if I were lost in the woods it would be the only thing I would take over an M4....the 410 adds a LOT of survivability with dove/quail/duck/turkey etc added to the menu.

That's what I was wondering, and yeah, the convo started with an o/u in mind. I wonder if 20-ga/.22mag might not be the most versatile possible. Not a whole lot of stuff a 20-ga slug won't knock down, and there's birdshot for birds.

I was thinking how funny it would be to show up to the trap range with a Judge.
