Hey, gun nuts!

If you're shooting low, try a heavier bullet next time and see if it comes up to point of aim. Of course, with a new gun and a large round, you may have been pushing it down a bit, too.

I bet he just needs a few hundred rounds and he will starts clearing a nice 2" hole in the target from 25m with the first mag.

Maybe.

I have always wondered about Our Girl, Perg. I'm not so sure he won't think about it too hard and forget the suggestions.

Speers were all I ever carried.

They are THE premium round imo...spendy as all fuck but when your ass is on the line..what is a 2 dollar round??

I like a mix for combat though I like to stack mine 230gr Speer/ 185gr Federal/ 230(?) mil spec ball tracer.

Maybe.

Eh...perg never made me think he was lying about being an 11C...which means he has the knowledge, skills and training to shoot damn near anything like a boss.

Little coaching, few hundred rounds, a solid day of training and I bet he can wheel that XD better than most.

I wasn't insinuating he'd lie. I was unfamiliar with that piece of info.

But I still think he might think just a wee bit too much sometimes.

You mix tracers in a mag for a carry pistol?

Too late. Bought an XDS today. Put around fifty rounds through it, right out of the box. Shoots like a dream, manageable recoil for a .45, easy sight picture, though I seem to aim low a lot. It's funny handling those huge rounds after getting used to the PPK/S in .380. They look like fucking hand grenades.

Congrats again, now you have a real gun.

Re. the shooting low. That's generally, not always, but generally an indication of the shooter pushing into the gun in anticipation of the recoil. Have a decent pistol shooter observe you for confirmation.

With pistol shooting sight alignment is EVERYTHING! Quite the opposite of rifle or shotgun where sight picture is the dominant desirable quality. Your target should be blurred out, out of focus as it were, and the alignment of front to rear sights be your primary center of attention. And the shorter the distance between the front and rear sight the more important that single attribute becomes.

Practice with 230gr. factory loads only. That's about as bad as the recoil is going to get with the 45ACP. Once you get that load under control everything else is a piece of cake. DO NOT play around with 'hot' loads. The 45 is recoil operated and the recoil spring is calibrated to std. loads. Deviating from std. loadings can cause problems from feeding issues to damage to the gun itself. Low velocity target loadings and 'hot' loads require that the recoil spring be changed out to accommodate either, easy enough to do, but you'd best know what you're doing.

Sweet man XD's are tank ass carry pistols.

Don't ever shoot a nice ass 1911 though....it will ruin all other pistols for you. ;)

If you want the shiz ammo for disemboweling any would be fuck nugget I suggest +P Gold Dot's.
Thanks. I have yet to join the Church Of St Browning. I'll be sure to post it here when it inevitably happens.
Does the XDS have a match grade barrel like the XDM?
I'm not sure. It sure shoots straight, though.

Took me a bit to get used to it, but you're probably right. I'll try not to think...

LOL...kiss my beautiful, desirable butt.

Good info, Ish, and thank you. These are 230 grain loads, "Independence" brand, whatever the shop had available. They seem to go bang just fine, and make big holes in the cardboard. I'm sure you and Wat are correct, that I'm flinching a little. She do make a big noise, though recoil is pretty mellow, considering the juice I'm letting fly.

In other news, apparently my .308 is dead on zeroed and yesterday I was pulling her right with every round. I was grouping >1" all day, but yesterday all those tight groups were off right. So today I expected to adjust the sights, and I was burning the center out of target after target. There's a certain kind of magic to aiming the gun in the right direction...

Not for general carry no, just a G30 all +P gold dots and TruGlow or w/e the fuck they call them..tritium night sights. 100% utility pocket freight train.

But going into a known combat situation/in my tacticool rig? Hell yea...tracers are rather invaluable. Directing other peoples fire, knowing where the hell you are shooting should conditions be less than ideal, re-load indicators.....pretty awesome thing to have...and way fuckin' OP over those who don't.

Take your time man....I held out for EVER. I still love H&K/Glock/XD's. They are way simpler and less finicky, and easier to operate. Esp if you haven't done a whole bunch of pistol shooting and plan to use it as a carry piece too.

I'm not sure. It sure shoots straight, though.

Unless you are doing long range precision shooting the difference is really negligible (if even measurable) at any range you might actually use a pistol.

I wouldn't worry about it, not on an XD or Glock.

Nice!! I love .308's

Yesterday I pulled out my cheap buckmaster bb gun. I think its accurate to 10 yards or so. I was happy I could still bullzeye a bottlecap at 10 feet. Now I just need to get back to shooting motrin at 10 feet again. That's fuckin nuts. Maybe when this ot slows I can get to the range. I've got a nice k31 swiss that needs some lovin

I love my rifle. A Ruger Gunsite Scout. Bolt action, same rig as their M77, mag fed. Light, pretty to look at, and she feels perfect in my hands.

Shooting Motrin? You use pills as targets? That's some serious precision shooting.
You can't help yourself.

You just can't.

:D

It's true! Thinking is a curse. I just can't turn my brain off.

.

I havent shot at pills in a few years. Might try it tonight. At the time I could hit bottle caps, golf tees, nails, and pop can tabs at about 6 feet or so. Last night was a struggle to hit the tab. I was a better shot with the red ryder but it broke. The levers are plastic. I'm way out of practice shooting wise.

LOL. I think I can hit a bottle cap at six feet with my foot.

But you make me think maybe I should put some targets out in the yard and haul out the air rifle, just to make things go "pling!"

Try and hit a motrin at 6 feet. Harder then it sounds. I've got some breakable targets that I think daisy makes. Its a sleave that stakes into the ground. You load it with these little clay discs. As you break one the next drops down.

You should buy generic drugs instead of brand name. The sleeve thing sounds neato.
