Hey, gun nuts!

See what was emboldened in my original post?

There's nothing wrong with the 1100 and you don't have to field strip it after every outing. It has accessories and barrel options out the ass at reasonable prices. Has been around forever.........tried and true design. But if it's not your cup of tea.........sobeit. Like I said, look at any gas operated auto-loader.

My preference has always been pump guns. I like the Rem. 870, robust, proven design, tons of accessories and barrel choices. For lefties the Ithaca 37 is probably the best choice (unless money is no object).

Ishmael

I've owned an 1100. It's great until you have to dis-assemble it, which is after every time you use it, unless you're stress testing.

There are tons of little parts.

Now, compare that to an AK pattern Vepr or Saiga, and you've got 2 moving parts to clean, maybe 3 if you count the gas block. Nothing small to lose, bend, or break.

Remington 870 is a good pump, but in semi-auto, Browning, Ithica, and Benelli, as well as Vepr and Saga all beat out an 1100.

Still cheaper than Donald Trump's campaign.

Now THERE'S a waste of money.

It makes sense that they're going back to 9mm. The ballistics of a lot of the new cartridges give them far greater stopping power than in the 80s, but I wouldn't expect you to disagree with your handlers over at american thinker... or actually do some american thinking.

My latest Ar build with my new xmas add ons:

Eotech 512 holo.
Vortex -3x (flip up/down)

The vortex is half the price of the eotech 3x. Eye relief is the same and a better mount IMO. It does lack the 5.56 ballistic drop marks, but that's not somethings I need.

BTW, I'm looking forward to shooting it. If I can out group you now, just imagine what I can do with decent optics? :p

And I've decided on this Lock n Load. as the press. 5 stage, auto-indexing, quick change Cal. setup. And cheaper than the Dillon.

your memory is going old man...

You and Baron left the range owing me $ as I correctly recall.

Of course I remain lucky in that we did not bet on the skeet.

Operative phrase, very important. I didn't claim to out score you. ;)

I have owned many guns and can not recall any of them being overloaded with nuts. The few nuts they have are very need and follow the rules of nuts to the highest standards. What is all this hate toward something that just sits there and embraces the bolt mated to it. Hmm Did you know nuts are all female.

My lawyer buddy dropped off a little pistol for me to work on the other day. A 1908 Colt Vest Pocket pistol in 25 cal. Interesting little 'pop-gun.' And another of John Browning's brilliant designs.

Traced the ser. no. and it was made in 1916. (Birthday party in order here?) Looked alright on the out side but was crudded up with years of accumulated lube/grease on the inside. No corrosion though.

Cute little pistol but sorta funny in that a box of 45 ACP is a lot cheaper than a box of 25 auto.

So I finished rehabilitating that little Colt. He's thinking he can trade it in for something a little more substantial with a retailer. Hope springs eternal.

I spent Wed. afternoon shooting a 50 Cal. Basically a Barrett M107A1. After a few rounds the thought came to mind of an old Samuel Clemens quote, "Thunder is full of sound and fury, but it is the lightening that does the work."

I was just punching paper at 1000 yds, but the ease with which I could get there was impressive. But the SOB was LOUD! Even with my electronic ear muffs on it was loud. And shooting from prone (hard to imagine shooting a 30lb rifle offhand), the dust cloud from the muzzle blast was reminiscent of shooting a black powder piece. You had your choice of either moving or waiting for the breeze to blow the dust away. I waited, needlessly to say.

I was able to hold about 1.5 MOA @ 1000. I think both I and the rifle could do a little better. Maybe down to 1 MOA, who knows? The most interesting part is that I did have to dial out Coriolis effect (approx. .5 MOA). Totally cool experience.

DONE!!!!

I decided to give the new press a work out and just finished reloading 500 rds. of 45ACP.

Pluses; Smooth as silk and fast.

Minuses; The powder meter is good, but not as accurate as I would like. My favored load for the 45 ACP out of a 1911 is a 230 gr. bullet pushed by 4.5 grs of Bullseye powder. The meter throws 4.5 +/- .3, which is a max. variation of damn near 12%. Good enough for defense loads but for shit when it comes to target shooting.

General bitches; Everyone has gone ultra conservative on the loading's. I was looking at the current recommended maximums for various powders on-line and was thinking, "that's just not right." So I pulled out my 1980 edition of the Hornady reloading manual and sure enough, the max. loading's were above what is printed today for any given powder. Then I went to my old Speer manual and same, same.

I was left to ponder whether today's firearms had gotten weaker, or today's formula's for tried and true powders had gotten more powerful........both improbable. Or had the ambulance chasers just gotten more bold?

Need some advice...

I have decided to get the revolver I have always wanted... a S&W .44 Mag 629, choosing the 5" barrel. I currently shoot .22 and 9 mm on a regular basis, ammo is all very affordable. But, the cost of the .44 is a bit more that I wish to spend for store-bought ammo. It's time to learn to reload my own... suggestions? I have been checking out you-tube... would like all the help I can get.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations...

How much shooting do you plan on doing with it?

Current UK court case for smuggling guns

There is a current court case for smuggling these weapons into the UK, with 1,000s of rounds as well:

http://i2.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article6250187.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/Guns.jpg

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/08/15/02/2B5BA58E00000578-0-image-m-92_1439600545776.jpg

The accused are alleged to have imported them to sell to drug dealers.

"Accused" and "alleged" because the case is still in court. The weapons were seized by Police shortly after they were being unloaded from a boat.

I have been raised with guns. So A few years ago, myself mad a friend of ine were debating. He lives in Ireland. I told him, if a person broke into my home, I would have to invite them in. Offer them drinks while I inserted the code into my gun cabinet. Then I could offer to shoot them.

So,
Yes, I am responsible. Nope. Not giving everyone that big of a chance anymore. I was raised with guns, I eat what I shoot. Ido not want to be a cannibal. Dont make me.

I usually shoot a couple hundred .22's then maybe 30 or more rds of 9mm's each range visit, try to shoot at least once a week, (I'm a skeet shooter also) so if I get into reloading I will do the 9's as well... maybe shotgun too... if I reduce my cost I expect I'll definitely increase my shooting...

44mags at Cabelas are about .68 cents per rd or more off the shelf in 50 rd boxes... looks like I can reduce that cost substantially after a modest investment for the press, etc... found a great you tube guy for the instruction of the "how to's"... now I need advice on good equipment to look for... preferably used... although all the die sets on Amazon.com seem reasonable...

Suggestions?

Lots of them. :) Most based on how much you are willing to spend.

The ole Lee Loader is the cheapest way to go. Tedious, but they do get the job done. Lee Loader - 44 Mag. Also available in 9mm.

The next step up would be something on the order of the RCBS "Rock Chucker." And the same press in an All in One Kit gets you everything you need to go except the dies in one package. The "Rock Chucker" is tried and true and built like a brick shit house. It's pretty much the gold standard in single stage presses and the price is such that it's just not worth saving $20 or so for a lesser piece of equipment.

A multi-stage auto-indexing press would be the next step up but you aren't shooting enough to justify one of those yet.

For shotgun name your poison but DON'T get the Lee LoadAll. It's cheap............well, it's cheap. If you are shooting 4 or less rounds of skeet/trap/wk. Something on the order of the MEC 600 Jr will get the job done. If you can find them on ebay some old Pacific DL-105 and/or DL-150 presses come up at good prices. You can make your own powder/shot bushings for them but other parts could prove to be a problem.

You can expect to save approx. 50% over retail cartridges/shells and if you 're careful actually end up with a superior product in terms of consistency.

Makes you wonder how many get through, doesn't it?

No big loss on the 'shippers' part. Those old AK's and Skorpians are a dime a dozen in Cent. Europe.

Thanks for the info... I like the Lee Precision Classic Turret Press Kit from Amazon for just over $200. That will work for the 9mm and .44.
As for the shotgun, I do shoot at least 4 rounds of skeet at each outing... often more. BTW, just bought the Beretta a300... fit my budget nicely. The 600 JR Mark V looks good... I buy "Estate" 2 3/4 bt $5 - $6 a box of 25, from Bi Mart here in Oregon... no break for case lots... don't know what the savings would be... still investigating.

As an aside, if you're going to reload shot shells make sure you buy brass base shells. The Alum/Steel base shells, although cheap retail, won't resize properly and will cause chambering/extraction problems. (BTW, same goes for the pistol/rifle cases.)

The Skorpian is the main reason I was considering getting an NFA trust set up. Definitely want one of those.
