Hey, gun nuts!

"Town," more honestly known as urban sprawl is now a good 5 miles north of there these days.

As a further reference North Scottsdale is in 30 miles away and all freeway...

But yes, Ish is right. Wait on the weekend is at least 1.5 hours.

I like the wait at my range. :)

There's a state run range close to my house, but I don't like shooting there because the guys that run the place are assholes. I understand that they have to cater to the lowest common denominator, but they don't have to be continuous assholes. I'll drive 25 - 30 miles to the Issac Walton League range. No lines, no assholes.

That's the other problem with the public ranges, asshole RSO's. They aren't all like that but it only takes one or two to piss you off. I know that they have a job to do, and an important one at that, but you don't have to be a jerk about it.

The Air Force PJ's (para-rescue) guys use our range for much the same reason. Their 'on base' range is run by the DOE pro-force and the RSO's are up the trainees asses every minute. Further they aren't allowed to do any realistic team move and shoot training. I mean WTF???? These guys are going to go in behind enemy lines to rescue downed pilots. Shooting from a fixed range in the prone position is adequate preparation?

FYI, this is the range I shoot at.

Are you shooting at Rush-shia? [/voice]

:D :D :D

With a hot cup of coffee, one can be on the lookout for Bullwinkle. (during season, of course)

Not to sound like a pin-headed lib, but loaded guns + ice underfoot?? That would make me nervous. Has it ever caused an accident?

You sound like a PHL who wears shoes with smooth leather soles. I've never had an issue. Even grandma, who followed grandpa around on the trapline with her 20 gauge Model 12 never had an issue. Just don't be stupid.

I cannot speak to ice specifically but guns are regularly carried over all manner of various terrain safely. Over and under barbed wire fences, across streams, rivers, on horseback, motorcycles, and quads.

There is even a subspecialty of cowboy action shooting that involves shooting from the saddle of a moving horse.

Until you are dead certain that the direction your gun is pointed is safe to send a round down-range the safety (if provided) is on and ideally, no round is chambered. In theory, even a slip and fall is considered before you chamber a round.

Hell, there are biathaletes that ski and shoot.

I have (on rare occaisions) met, lets call them enthusiastic pistoleros, who extoll the benefit to carrying an extra round in the chamber in addition to whatever the magazine holds. Those people make me nervous. I hope they are blowing smoke.

So I got another new toy. Rem. 700 LR in 300 WinMag. Going to put a muzzle brake on the beast (Ruger). I shot Vat's WinMag a couple of weeks ago and while recoil never bothered me all that much (many years shooting a 338 WinMag) I plan on shooting this one on the 1000 yd range until I have to rebarrel the bitch. Right now it's on a M40 chassis (which is sorta strange but what the hell?).

Hornady has a new bullet out for 30 cal. 208 gr. ELD. with a BC of a phenomenal .690! Launched at 3000fps it's still supersonic at a mile. No worries about trans-sonic upset at 1000 yds.

Going to have to play with the loadings. No matter, it's going to be H1000 powder as the power. But the brass and primers are up in the air now. In the end the rifle will tell me what it likes to eat.

BB gun in the basement huh?

Ishmael

Shit I wish. Next house will have a complete basement with round collectors/directors. Right now, free America. I can shoot out of the back door, drive anywhere I want, do whatever I want. I hope softrom doesn't read this and pee down his leg.

I do love taking the bb gun to the pigeons in the front tree though, messy bastards. They mess up my nice, green lawn.

Must be nice. I need a target puller and a radio to shoot 1000 yds The walk back and forth can be a killer. But having a private range at your disposal with 40 pistol bays, 35 rifle bays, 20 1000 yd positions on the KD range, 10 positions on the 'whatever pops up' out to 1500 yd range, 13 IDPA ranges, skeet, trap, and 2 sporting clay ranges it's hard to get bored. Besides, it's nice to have witnesses when you whip your dick out on the table. Ain't like the 'one that got away', ya know?

Need no bays here bro. Shoot wherever, whenever. Short distance, long distance - got it all. Although I do miss my target changers / chasers. They grow up and life goes on but I count it as good exercise.

Alright, let's go at it this way. I'm in the 4th largest state in the union, including Alaska, with a population smaller than a LA suburb. I live damn near in the center of downtown and I can shoot whatever no further than the time it takes me to take a shower. And that's fine by me, I have no compulsion to walk out my back door shooting off my 338 on New Years. What goes up must come down. Shooting is not a form of Viagra. It's a discipline as Zen as Transcendental Meditation.
