I’m so old I remember…

I’m old enough to remember when Newsweek and Time magazine both had cover stories about Bruce Springsteen the same week.

Both magazines hyped him as the latest hot phenomenon sweeping the country. Nobody I knew at my west coast college had ever heard of him, and none of the FM radio stations played his songs.

I'm so old that I remember when tickets to see Lynyrd Skynyrd at The Hollywood Palladium were $7.50.
I'm so old I remember when tickets to see The Talking Heads opening for Elvis Costello were TWO DOLLARS in the KZOK Summer Concert Series! 😲

I'm so old that I remember going to the bike store wanting a StingRay, but they not only cost a lot, but, even at that age, I was too tall to make them a comfortable ride. I settled on a Charger (I forget the manufacturer) but it had the banana seat and stylings of the Schwinn, but fit me much better.

The movie theater was 2.50 a ticket, buttered popcorn was 1.00
We had two theaters that were like second run theaters near us. They were cheaper and my dad, being a bit frugal, would take us there.

One was in Hacketstown NJ. I think it was called The Strand theater. Dollar movies I think.

The other was the Cort Theater in Somerville NJ. They had ¢77 movies there. They raised it to ¢88 at some point. I saw Smokey and the bandit there.

This was in the mid to late 70s.

I'm so old that I remember when a good education was important. I was reading at a high school level in the 4th grade (math, not so much - but still passable).

Now, our schools are turning out world-class losers.

I'm so old I remember when the guy at the service station would check under the hood while pumping your gas.

I am so old that l remember when NBC would preface a show with a special announcement that it was brought to you in living color.

I’m so old I remember when you couldn’t send Happy New Year texts at midnight as too many people were on the network.
