Yw, sweetie. i know i can do it, i know you can do it. Those that post here can pull motivation and strength from each other. i know we can. :)

For me the biggest problem can also be the greatest help ~ my willpower.

I have been a WeightWatchers member for years. I lost 82lbs at one point but hit a wall and was still not happy with my body image. I stayed stable for a long time but gradually about 65lbs have gone back on.

The odd thing is that now, thanks to Lit and especially my pic thread, I am actually happier with my image in the sense that I no longer think "I want to be slim and sexy" because I know I am already sexy!! Now I need the will power to be slimmer. I walk down the street feeling fine, I just hate shopping for clothes, that is when it really gets me down.

I love my food, I like a drink (or 3) but I know I need to do it. I just have to get my mind straight and my will power behind me and then I WILL do it. My daughter also wants to do it to and with each other's support and encouragement and a wedding in 2008 to look forward to we WILL do it.

We can ALL do it, our methods and reasons may be different but if we want to we can ALL do it.

btw, great thread ((((((((((((((((((Pink))))))))))))))))))))) :rose:

Hi Pink
Chiming in with my 2 cents worth.

Personally, I need a reason to lose weight other than for myself. (self esteem issues) I have a friend that has helped me motivate myself into trying to lose some pounds. He and I are (at least I think we still are) going to ride recumbent bikes across Iowa this summer. (another reason to have my head examined) ;) It’s a big, huge bike ride and I am trying very hard to get in shape for it. I’ve always said I’ve been in shape but I’d like to be in another shape besides round. I want to look more like an ‘I’ as opposed to an ‘O’ .

In an effort to accomplish my goal I have joined an exercise group at my local hospital. They have a program for diabetics that allows you to use their facilities for 3 months at half price. I’ve been going since January and had lost 10 pounds but now am gaining a little – the MD says I’m gaining muscle weight which is a little disheartening but I can feel my stomach, legs and buns getting firmer which makes me feel great.

Now if I could just get a handle on the food situation. My husband works until 7pm, drives an hour to get home so our evening meals aren’t usually until around 8pm which is just terrible for weight loss. He’s overweight too so we are both fighting the same battle. I’ve tried a lighter evening meal but he’s hungry when he gets home and if he doesn’t get his fill he “forages” for more.

As for my issues with food. I’m home alone all day – most days and am a “I’m bored, I’ll eat” kinda person. The old “trying to fill a void in my life with food” thing.
If it were just a matter of not eating it would be great. Psychological matters are tricky when they involve food.

In any case, it sounds like we’re all in the same boat, afloat on a sea of many and varied issues. Let’s hope we get rescued before we eat each other. :D

my willpower sucks, i have come to understand that i simply cannot have chocolate in the house. If i crave it, go buy a small portion and eat it to satisfy my craving. If it's in the house, i will eat it every single day. *shaking my head*

i ate along with my daughter, a whole bad of pastachios last night. i knew we would when i bought them. They are gone now, i cannot have anymore. :)

Do you know what i hate teh most about clothes shopping? It's those damned mirrors in stores. They seem to ballon me out. i swear i look even bigger in them. Maybe it is just my own self image i cannot come to terms with, i'm not sure. i hate those damn mirrors.

i have always wanted to lose weight, but now i have an extra motivation factor, a wonderful man that i adore. He wants this for me, i want this for me. He is my Dom and i know will encourage me in healthy ways and motivation tho, no long distance biking for me, sweetie. :)

i am getting better about not eating when i am simply bored or eating when the food just tastes so good, that i want seconds. i've only lost a pound or two but i've overcome some big eating obsticles already. The ones in my head, i've made great progress in my way of thinking. Eating on small plates is a fantastic idea.

Redhaired and friendly gave me some wonderful tips yesterday, a big thanks to her

Hey all

This thread is a great idea.
I'm in desperate need to loose some weight. My ultimate goal at this point would be about 70 pounds. Some people tell me that would put me too low but....that's like a llllooonnnnggggg term goal. Hell at this point I would be happy with about 40.
I try going to CURVES 3 times a week. The eating part is what I have trouble with. Need to eat better and cut out the soda! ARGH!

Anyway, I'd love to chat anytime or be there for anyone who may need some moral support. Goodness knows I will need some myself.

My Yahoo IM is just4u1029!

Welcome to the thread. :)

Hi Pink! :rose:

I've been losing weight since last May, with the help of Nutrisystem. For my hubby and I, we found that it really wasn't that much more money than what we were already spending on eating out and all the lil extras (Starbucks anyone??). It's been a great learning experience, and has really changed the way we look at food now. We were 100% on the NS program for the first 6 months, and now we are doing half the NS food, and half completely on our own. It's amazing how much better I feel now that I'm eating better. It's helped a lot with controlling my hypoglycemia, and I've dropped several sizes. :D

I still have more to go, but always can use extra support. I too am having a hard time fitting in the exercise. Seem to always find some "good" excuse for not doing it. LOL.. Usually that I'm too tired after working on my feet all day. :(

I think this will be a great thread Pink. Good luck to everyone! :) :rose:

Would you welcome a male to this thread?

Recently started again with a diet, one of the low carb, low GI sort, I hope that I have this time the willpower to persist, the hardest part is leaving the alcohol alone, I have managed to loose a bit just eating the right food and not drinking during the week, just relaxing the rule a bit on weekends.

Good luck to all!

Hey great thread pink! I've been trying to lose some weight too. Over the last few months, I had been struggling with depression, (I am getting better now!) and I found that my BIGGEST problem was that I tended to feed my depression. I was gaining weight so fast that I could see it when I looked in the mirror, where I was plumping up some more. Which OF COURSE, in turn made me more depressed and more inclined to eat whatever the hell I wanted to.
My savior has been my Mom! You're right when you say it is better with a partner, someone with the same goal in mind. My mom thought that I was gaining weight far too fast and it was unhealthy... and also being my mom, she knew I was struggling with something far deeper than just my weight. So, she bought us both a years membership to a womens gym ( I can't stand working out around men! lol) and we've been going pretty religiously for almost two months now. About 5 days a week anyway. Sadly, I'm still having a problem with over-eating, I can't seem to get it under control. My will-power SUCKS! But, because I have been working out so hard, I have lost about 10 pounds and not changed my OVER-eating habits at all. I'm young, I know that if I could just manage to get the eating right thing, I could really shed off the pounds.
I haven't lost much weight, but I can see what I have lost coming off in inches. I also feel BETTER every day. When we first started going to the gym, we were huffing and puffing and could hardly breathe. Now, we can work three times harder and longer and not feel a thing. It's an amazing feeling, to know that a few months ago I couldn't do it, and now I can.
Like I said, if only I could get the eating under control. A few years ago, I lost 30 pounds on a Cabbage soup diet (SICK!) and since then I have gained it all back and then some. I need help now when I comes to the food. I've thought about hanging the pair of pants I want to fit into on the wall across my kitchen and seeing if that would help lol. :)
Anyway, just wanted to stick my little story in there, like I said, GREAT thread. I think you might just have something here! :nana:

My ultimate goal is about the same as yours! I have to say though, I used to go to Curves, and it works out okay for a little while, but when I went there, I just sort of got to one weight and couldn't get it off. I suppose that three days a week of half an hour doesn't really cut it in the long run. Although, my biggest beef with curves was that it bored the hell out of me! If you have someone else to go with, then maybe it could be good. Well anyway, just wanted to mention that, good luck! You and I have the same problem....
I guess most of us do lol. :)

Thanks for posting and welcome to the thread. :)

i'd love to try NutraSystem, 200 dollars a month just for my food is a lot to swing. i'd still have to buy food for the month, for my daughter. Money is a definite.........i wouldn't say problem but it effects how i food shop.

i did a no no tonight, i had a good size portion of Mac & Cheese with my chicken filet tonight. i could definitely do better but right now, end of the month, i don't have much grocery money so we are eating what i've got in the house. i am full and don't think i will be getting hungry late, so that is the good news. :)

a friend of mine bought me a George Foreman grill a couple of christmas' ago and i love it.

Tomorrow, i'm going to go buy some Crystal Light, as RedHairedandFriendly suggested, so i can start drinking larger quantities of water during the day.

i tried curves a few years back and didn't lose one pound. i'm going to try something different this time, maybe a combination of walking and water areobics.

all that sweat knowing thats more calories your burning... makes all the eating good feel like its paying off... i haven't been doin good here lately due to... school and work i've been outta the gym for a week i feel extra fat but this week my plan is to go everyday im off work.... I still have many more pounds too go I WISH everyone the bestest luck in the world! it's sooooo hard but its doable... one main reason (if interested) i'm doing this is well I'm going to school to be an Addiction Counlsor no one is gonna listen to someone who has her own unbreakable addiction... food and laziness for me!

Peace and Love,
Jess

I(t might have done that when i was younger but i am just shy of 40 now. Weight loss is 100 times harder to make happen now, then it used to be.

I must respectfully disagree Pink.

At 51 I'm loosing weight. ;)

an absolutely wonderful thread...smiles

i have started this whole weight loss thing again...i was on weight watchers a few years ago, lost 25 pounds, once i started exercising (was walking 4 miles a day)...i stopped losing weight...talk about discouraging...but i'm going to try again, losing weight, feeling better, going for bike rides, playing catch with my kids, roller skating, playing at the park...that's what i've found works for me with regards to getting out and exercising, because i HATE exercising...just plain walking? yuck...jogging? not a chance, boobs are too big (giggles)...going to the gym? i'd rather beat my head against a brick wall. From all that i've read, you have to find something that you like, something that will get you out and enjoying the air and moving...so, that's why i have chosen the activities that i have...i know what size i want to be, and it's not the 115 pounds that the charts show, it's nowhere near that...but a good healthy size, with curves that fit a man's hands and maybe overflow them a bit...grins...eating better, lots of veggies and fruit and water and fiber and smaller portions, vitamins...all those contribute to putting my body on track...i love crystal light and the new flavored waters, skinny cow ice cream, and lollipops...i love lollipops, not big on calories and a good thing to keep one's mouth busy...i've also found that keeping my hands busy is a good thing...crafts like cross-stitch and crocheting, these aren't things you can easily stop in the middle of like one can with some other crafts, writing (usually with a lollipop in my mouth), masturbating...giggles...

anyway, it's small things...getting moving, keeping hands busy, eating a little better a little bit at a time... :rose: and we'll all get there.

You should also check out the house brands at your supermarkets. We buy Krogers version of the Crystal Light, and WallyWorlds. They're both very good, and cheaper than Crystal Light!

Alrighty then...

I made it through all the posts without replying to everything that needs some personal addresssing. :D

First, Exercise doesn't cause weight loss. It grows muscle!

Now don't get me wrong, we all need to be in better shape to avoid health problems. Heck, the heart needs to be in damn good shape!

Weight loss is a matter of healthy eating... PERIOD!!!

We all learned to enjoy bad foods.

Eating a slice or two of Pizza ain't too bad, but the entire pizza is what is killing us all!

It is portions and calories my friends.

First tip...

I was a soda pop junkie and I gave it up for Fruit2o.

Flavored water with zero calories, zero carbs, but loads of flavor!

Second tip...

http://www.calorieking.com/

Now, I do have the assistance of a personal trainer at 24 Hour Fitness who has kept me focused on changing my body fat mass while working out to gain muscle mass.

Purge the house of bad stuff and get better foods.

Need something sweet yet satisfying?

Purchase some Dryers Popsicles... 40 calories each!!!

Now I do like my liquor but using Calorie King I learned that each shot of Gentleman Jack whiskey is 107 calories each and a Mikes Hard Lemonade is 245 calories each.

107 x 5 = 535 = 2 x 245 = 1,025

That is almost half as many calories as a 14" pepperoni pizza at 2647!!!

http://www.calorieking.com/foods/ca...MTI0NjczNzM0JnBvcz0yJnBhcj0ma2V5PXBpenph.html

I am limited to 2200 calories per day but then again I am a man working on muscle gain.

I'm loosing fat yet gaining muscle and at 51 years of age. If I can do this anyone can...

O.K. at 5' 10" I was 196 pounds and since November I'm at 186.6 pounds.

I have lost over 3" from my waist yet added inches to my arms, chest, shoulders and legs.

2 years ago I lost 85 pounds thanks to having major complications due to having a simple tonsilectomy. (yes Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Curves and Nutri-system would have been a whole lot cheaper) I was afraid that once I could swallow again that it was going to all pack on again. So after trying really hard I learned that if you eat frequently small meals, healthy snacks, lots of water you never feel hungry. I haven't changed my eating habits, except I eat more times a day. My theory is this: Eat Breakfast as a King, Dinner as a Queen, and Supper as a Pauper.
After my major weight loss, I joined the gym and I try to get there 4 days a week. Once you start working out...DON'T weigh yourself! It's is depressing because muscle weighs more than fat! That's when you get out your tape measure and watch the inches fall off.

It sucks when it's a constant struggle with weight isn't it! Wouldn't it be a great world if we could eat everything we wanted and not gain a pound?

Thank you for those links. i will concentrate on trying to knock down on the pop and start drinking more flavored water. i don't drink alcohol much at all so thankfully, that is not a problem. i will keep in mind what you wrote about food.
